3 PROP WASH By Sarah Chauvet Happy New Year. It doesn t seem possible that we are into another year! Is it my imagination or is time moving faster these days?? Our Chapter kicked off December with an appearance on Salinas Television Station KSBW on December 8 th. Kay Harmon arranged for a group of us to present toys to KSBW s annual holiday food and toy drive. So, in the rain, Donna Crane-Bailey, Theresa Byers, Kryss Crocker and son Bryce, Ann Goldsmith, Carolyn Dugger and I met at Watsonville airport and drove to Salinas. Kay and Michaele Serasio were waiting for us with umbrellas at the ready. We had our five minutes of fame wearing our chapter sweatshirts in local TV. Of course, none of us had a camera to record the event for our history. We plan to make this an annual event so next time we will have a photographer with us. Next event in December was our annual Christmas party December 20 th instead of our usual monthly meeting. This year Carolgene Dierolf and Jeanne Hendrickson teamed up to put on the show and they did a great job. The hangar was beautifully decorated and the food was great and plentiful. Dessert was a cake decorated to congratulate Jody Roberts who had just gotten her Private Pilot s License. YEA! Carolgene ran the gift exchange and it went off very well. Thank you Carolgene and Jeanne!! A smiling Jody Roberts, brand new private pilot! Photo by Kay Harmon Our next event is the Flying Companion Seminar on February 24 th. Co-Chairs Dena Taylor and Jody, Carolgene, and the cake. Photo by Kay Harmon Michaele Serasio held a preliminary planning meeting on December 5 th and will be having further meetings as needed. January 27 th is the Southwest Section Winter Business Meeting in Ontario, CA. On April 21 st Watsonville Airport will host the third Day in the Sky for kids with disabilities and I have volunteered our chapter members to handle ramp escort duties. May brings the Southwest Section meeting in Santa Maria on May Then the Watsonville Fly-In and we will be busy with registration as usual. Sooo Happy New Year. Let s go flying before we get too busy. Sarah 3
4 Coming event from FAASafety.gov For further details and to register for this FAA Safety Seminar, go to FAASafety.gov "Pitch Attitude Flying" Topic: Piloting Proficiency Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 7:15 PM Location: Wings of History Museum, Murphy Ave, San Martin, CA Select Number: WP As pilots, we know that the conventional wisdom of airplane controls is wrong. Up elevator does not make the airplane climb, throttle does not make the airplane go fast, and rudder does not turn the airplane. Our speaker, Mike Forsyth, will tell us the what the control inputs really make the airplane do, so that we can fly better. Southwest Section Winter Business Meeting The Southwest Section Winter Business Meeting will be held on January 27, 2007, in Ontario, California, at the Hilton Ontario Airport Hotel. The San Gabriel Valley Chapter is hosting. General Aviation is encouraged to fly into Cable; the landing fee will be waived for all 99s. All those flying into Cable should Virginia Harmer with approximate time of arrival if you want local 99s to shuttle you to the hotel. For those flying commercially into Ontario International Airport, the Hilton will pick you up. Just call the hotel for the kiosk at Baggage Claim. Lunch will be served during the Business Meeting and will be $25.00 per attendee. Please contact Barbara Crooker, Southwest Section Treasurer (cell phone is or at ) ASAP to confirm that you are attending the meeting. The meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and will adjourn about 3:30 p.m. All members are welcome! 4 Two Cents Worth By Theresa Levandoski-Byers, Treasurer Happy New Year everyone. We have happily added new members to our local Chapter in the past twelve months. Since not everyone can make our meetings I just want to let you know how our local membership and dues work. Our calendar year runs from June 1 to May 31 and this is the time frame for our local dues, which are currently $ (Your international dues date varies, depending upon the date you joined.) As far as reimbursements, please turn in any approved expense, along with receipts, no later than thirty days after the expense occurred. This fiscal year will close May 31, If you have any questions, please call or e- mail: or gtbyers@earthlink.net
