2 Taking Care of Your Passengers Our Bag Drop Experience BCS are the experts on delivering end to end automated bag drop (ABD) solutions to enhance passenger experience and increase throughput at check-in. When you combine this with 20 years of BHS and automation experience then no other company has the unique blend of skills to ensure the successful implementation of automated bag drop solutions. Our ABD experience commenced in 2007 with our work as Air NZ s technology integrator for their revolutionary automated bag drop (ABD) solution deployed domestically and for Trans-Tasman fl ights that has now processed over 15 million passengers. Since then we have pursued a program of continuous innovation and improvement that has seen us deliver ABD solutions across the world in over 15 airport terminals with flexible solutions that fit a wide range of terminal infrastructure and airline requirements. Common use It is important to recognise that many of the early ABD deployments were for a single airline but ultimately from an airport perspective what is required is a common use ABD solution that enables multiple airlines to check-in passengers on the same ABD hardware thus maximising throughput and productivity within the existing terminal check-in area footprint. Today the BCS BAGgate is the only ABD hardware that is certifi ed for use on the SITA Transact CUSS platform to deliver this true common use functionality for airport operators and BCS today continues to extend its partnership with SITA to deliver complete end to end common use self service solutions. Easy As for Passengers The range of BCS BAGgate solutions are designed to ensure that the passenger experience for bag drop is Easy As. This starts with an intuitive 17 touchscreen that gives the passenger easy to follow on screen and graphical prompts on what is required to drop their bag off. The passenger is asked to scan their boarding pass so that their booking can be found and validated to allow bag drop. Passenger is instructed to load their first bag onto the BAGgate which is easy with the low load height and ergonomic design that permits loading from front or side. The bag is weighed and dimensions checked. If the bag is overweight the passenger can repack or pay excess fees. Heavy bag tags can be generated automatically and tubs for soft bags are automatically identified. The bag tag is scanned and activated to allow acceptance into the Baggage handling system. Typical process time per bag is less than 20 seconds leaving the passenger more time for relaxing and duty free shopping. Easy As for Airports With our hardware solution in its 4th generation we have developed a modular approach to the ABD solution that allows great latitude in how you combine the three key components of Passenger Interface, Sensor hoop and smart conveyors together to deliver the best ABD solution for any configuration of terminal. Our approach means that we do not dictate to the airport what the ABD solution must look like but rather we work with you in a collaborative manner to ensure that the optimum solution is designed and integrated to meet your requirements. Our extensive BHS experience ensures commonality of technology for lowest cost of airport ownership, upgrade paths for future proofing and ease of maintenance and support. Using our Hybrid Desk provides airports the flexibility in having an ABD (CUSS) solution and an Agent assisted (CUTE) solution using the same hardware. The Lite solution is a Low cost Retrofit solution designed for smaller airports and jurisdictions that will permit passengers to hand scan bag tags and for the airport to maintain sufficient supervision from an intrusion perspective. BAGgate Brownfields Dual Use Solution The Brownfields solution is designed to deliver the ultimate in flexible terminal operations especially in existing airports where the airport authority may have a mix of airlines in terms of ABD use capability. Our Brownfields solution involves the retrofit of the sensor arch and passenger interface unit to your existing counters along with conveyor adjustments. Using a simple key control on the desk the check-in can be run as an ABD or as a traditional staffed desk for airlines that are not ABD ready. BAGgate Greenfields Drop-in Solution The Greenfields BAGgate is designed for easy integration with existing BHS systems as a Drop-in desk replacement and can deliver improved space requirements with up to 20% more ABD units than conventional checkin desks. There is a range of options such as integrated Swingdesks for rapid deployment in fall back operations, single or two stage conveyors and a range of peripheral device options for the passenger interface units all of which can be tailored to meet requirements. BAGgate Hybrid Desk The Hybrid Desk can be used as a replacement to the Passenger Interface of the Greenfields solution. The Hybrid Desk provides the ability to operate both Agent Assisted (CUTE) and Self Bag Drop (CUSS) using the same hardware. Ensures that Airports have a Common Use solution, no matter what stage an airline is adopting Bag Drop. Given that the BAGgate utilises a modular component solution these components may be easily adapted into a wide array of architectural building solutions offering almost endless possibilities to meet the challenges of airport terminal design and operations and we are happy to work with your architects and design advisors on how best to achieve your desired look and feel.

4 High Level Two Step Process The BAGgate ABD process is modelled on the IATA RP1701 pratice for International self-check and bag drop and specifically the two-step process as identified in the recommended pratice being Cuss + Bag Drop where the passenger engages with the process to identify themselves at the kiosk as step 1 and drop their bag(s) at the bag drop as step 2 At the Kiosk Passenger selects Airline via touch screen. Passenger uniquely identifies themself using a number of ID options (fingerprint, passport, credit card, RFID, bar-coded boarding pass etc) for the flight they hold a booking for. Advanced Passenger Information reconciliation for International flights (Nationality, passport, approval to uplift) and passenger with flight. Check passenger in, confirm passenger seating. Confirm the number of bags that the passenger is carrying. Piece rate is the preferred approach. Charge passenger costs for excess or additional bags for piece rate system. Weight based systems require further process at bag drop. Passenger answers security questions (Via Touch). Issue boarding pass (2D Barcode) and bag tags (inactive) to the passenger. Passenger self tags bags. Passenger proceeds to Automated Bag Drop unit with bags. At the Automated Bag Drop Passenger is verified by scanning of the 2D Boarding Pass (Preferred) or other means at Passenger Interface Unit. Boarding pass reconciled with received BSM s. Passenger prints out bag tag if checked in via Mobile device. Baggage is weighed, bag tag is scanned and size checked for BHS. Excess weight is dealt with from revenue, health and safety perspective. Baggage weight is sent to Airline DCS. Bag is processed through scanner array for correct dimensions and reading of bag tag. If authorised by system, bag is available for release and tags become live. Passenger releases each bag onto the Baggage System. Bag drop issues bag receipts for each bag to passenger. Passenger proceeds to gate or customs. Bag Tag Activation With the advent of the ability to print bag tags at a self service kiosk, transport security regulators have expressed concerns at the possibility of a discarded bag tag being picked up and used by someone with malicious intent to enable a hazardous item of unaccompanied baggage to make its way into the system and onto an aircraft. This concern is especially the case with international flights more so than domestic. In order to address this scenario, SITA working with Aeroports de Montreal, developed the concept of Active/ Inactive bag tags. This approach has been included by IATA in the Bag Messaging standard and has been successfully used for Trans-border flights between Canada and the USA with the approval of the TSA. Under this approach, any bag tag printed at a kiosk has a BSM created with the Active/Inactive state set to Inactive. Only after verification that the passenger identity and flight details match the bag tag being presented at bag drop can the bag be accepted and the Active/ Inactive field allowed to be set to Active. Only bag tags with the Active BSM field set, are allowed to proceed to be placed on the aircraft. Transport Canada, the UK DfT (Department for Transport),TSA and Australian Office of Transport Security(OTS) have agreed that the Active and Inactive tag standard is the appropriate way to ensure secure self baggage processing. The control as agreed by the TSA, DfT, Transport Canada and OTS is that you must ensure the Inactive tag is not loaded. BCS in conjunction with SITA have developed a flexible and unique solution that enables clients to meet the active/inactive requirement whilst requiring no change to individual airline DCS systems.
