4 From the Directors chair Hello everyone At last winter seems to have been broken, temperatures are rising nicely and sadly so is the grass! So get the grass cut during the week and get ready for all the rides and events that we ve got going on virtually every weekend throughout the summer. Please do not be shy or nervous if you are new to the Harley-Davidson or Harley Owners Group. You will be made most welcome I assure you. If you re not sure about anything at all just ask and you ll be looked after. Remember we were all new once! Still unsure then pick up the phone and give me a call. Fenlanders is your club just the same as anyone else. Just bear in mind that we do things together and for the chapter. Your dues pay for administration etc., it s not an admission fee to one of the biggest and oldest chapters in the UK. It might sound like and old cliche but you really do get out what you put in. So last weeks poker run certainly got a good number of knees in the breeze with 104 bikes taking part and a fantastic 750 raised for charity which is brilliant. This Saturday is Newmarket H-D s 22nd Birthday with good weather forecast and plenty going on. Last year was massive. Now most of you will know that we have our club information stand there and our Charity BBQ. This raises a great amount of money for charity and it s manned by volunteers in the Fenlanders. We not only need volunteers but we need new volunteers to join in work as a team and meeting people. You don t have to be there all day obviously, but if you can do an hour or so then you ll have fun and help some very deserving causes into the bargain. So please call me or Alan Moss and get your names down please. No experience necessary full training will be given! So there we are enjoy the weather, your bikes, and Fenlanders HOG to the max and have a great Summer. Take care of yourselves and each other. Neil Billig

5 Dealer Principal & Treasurers Report Hi All, The accounts are as usual in a good position, again with monies coming in from Rally ticket sales and membership renewals. Our charity pot now stands at which I am sure will have been boosted by this weekend s Poker Run and upcoming Birthday Party on Saturday 21 st April. Don t forget the dealership buy the food and the chapter prepares and sells it at each major event, and I know the regulars are always very grateful of any help offered on the day. So if you can spare an hour or so please contact Ali and together we can swell the charity pot. The Birthday Party will be our last at Black Bear Lane as we will be moving to new premises nearer to the A14, still in Newmarket. The new dealership will have spaces for 25 cars, yes, we ll have a car park! Plus, we will be able to separate bike and car parking. We will have a larger showroom floor and parts and service will be within the building on ground floor level so far easier for speed of service. One great thing will be our warehouse at the end of the building. If the weather is poor we can use this large area which will be under cover. We hope to be in the new dealership early next year or maybe even later this year. This will very much depend on the build as it is a new building. I ll keep you posted as we progress and if you would like to see the artists impression just give me a shout the next time you are in Newmarket. I hope you will see echoes of the old black bear lane site in the new one! Dick Hayes has had a load of tuning work done on his 107 Street Glide. He s had Bassani Road Rage 4 Pipes 2 into 1, Torque Cam, FP3 and Free Flow Filter which has made a world of difference. But don t take my word for it, see Dickie the next time he is around on his ride. We ve also recently done a Power Cam for a 114 Fat Bob and according to the customer, it s now an animal. If interested in tuning your ride see Mitch and he will sort a special price for chapter members. For anyone who is planning a long ride this year we will have some basic checks that will be free on certain Saturdays throughout the season. If you would like to book a slot please call Andy Kelly on Sales wise, as some of you know we bought a bulk of 883 Irons to beat the 900 price increase and these are beginning to sell quite quickly (I did buy enough stock to last to September but now that s unlikely!) So if you are thinking of a change or know someone who is looking at an 883 please call Richard asap. We have also managed to get hold of another 115 th Street Glide which is very rare and won t be here long I would have thought. Plus if you haven t tried the new Softail range yet, we have a full demo fleet and they are raring to go. Come and have a ride, you won t be disappointed. Please don t forget that after May, unless we have your authority, we cannot contact you, so we will not be able to let you know when your next MOT/Service is due or about any Promotions/Events or Offers etc. So please take less than two minutes to complete our one page online Preferences form on our website. 6 News from Newmarket HD Hi People, The sun is out at last after a longer than expected winter. The weather looks like it is improving but only just, so onwards to let you know the latest news down at the shop. We have just put a new demo fleet on and they are ready to roll! Harley Davidson are doing a promotion to test ride a bike called The Dream Ride. This gives you the chance to win a trip to Prague for the 115 th rally. So If you are thinking of upgrading or even curious of what the new bikes are like please contact me and I will sort for you. My is richard@newmarketharley.co.uk Other news. The mileage chapter challenge is doing well with more people enlisted into it than last year. Remember it s free to enter and you could win prizes for the most miles. See Alan Moss to register or myself. To date we have collectively done the 10,000 miles mark and season hasn t started yet as such. Our Birthday will be on the 21 st this month and we have lots of things going off. See the flyer, but its promised to be great day. Come on down and enjoy the day. Remember it s the last one at the Black Bear Lane shop. In the motor clothing department lots of new lines in store now. Every day I walk through there is a new jacket or something to look at and I m a sucker for jackets so looks like a raid on the card again That s about it for now. 13 Friday 14 th, Saturday 15 th Sunday 16 th September 2018 The Sparkle Tour East Event Overview The Sparkle Tour East is one of seven Sparkle Tours taking place throughout the UK by lady H.O.G members. This is the first Eastern event and we ll be visiting four Harley - Davidson Dealerships, taking in some great ride routes and memorable fun times with like-minded girls. If you are a H.O.G member and a lady rider, do not miss this event! We will be meeting at Norwich Harley-Davidson Friday afternoon for a brief tea and cake start up, departing late afternoon for a ride down to Newmarket where we will be staying at a Spa Hotel. After parking up the fun continues with some SPA-rkle Time in the hotel Spa and Health Club, this will likely be accompanied with some more Sparkles (whoops I mean bubbles!) We will be leaving the hotel fairly sharpish on Saturday morning, heading up to Newmarket Harley-Davidson for breakfast butties. Then riding out across some Fenland roads towards Ely, Chatteris & Peterborough, heading towards Uppingham and the home of the Rutland Chapter, Sycamore Harley-Davidson, where we will make a comfort stop and maybe have a lunchtime snack. Leaving Sycamore Harley-Davidson we will then take in some picturesque riding routes via Rutland Water, Oakham, & Melton Mowbray up towards Robin Hood Harley-Davidson in Nottingham where we will say hello to the Sherwood Chapter Crew. We have a reservation at a suitably located hotel next to Nottingham Castle, a short stroll from Nottingham City Centre and the famous hostelry Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. We might even pop in for a sharp half before our supper!? After breakfast on Sunday morning we will ride east, heading for the glorious sea side town of Sheringham which will be celebrating its 1940 s weekend. This annual event will provide a fabulous end point to our main Sparkle Tour East Event. Yeah, it s a whole weekend of 1940 s style and we re aiming to have a dedicated Sparkle Tour East welcome event and parking area for our arrival which should be around 2-30pm. We are hoping that our group will join the suggested war time Rosie The Riveter fancy dress style with shirts or overalls and head scarf, along with her famous catch phrase We Can Do It. which will be really appropriate as we will have Done It.! 15 Additional information One Day Dun 2018 : HARLEY DAVIDSON A unique Dawn to Dusk Challenge to ride from Coast to Coast in one day from Lowestoft to Lands End JUNE 23th 2018 Open to all Harley Riders and their passengers. The challenge is to set off from Ness Point in Lowestoft, and using your own route visit the four passport checkpoints, to reach Lands End before dusk the same day. There will be a programme of social events to accompany the One Day Run and all entrants will receive a specially designed tee shirt. Those who complete the challenge successfully will receive a commemorative embroidered badge.
