So t hey went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place. People saw them leaving and many came to know about it. They hastened there on foot from all the towns and arrived at the place before them. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pi ty for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. Brief commentary on the Gospel There's a bit of a "missing link" in the first two sentences of today's Gospel from Mark. In the first, the apostles return from having been sent out on mission two by two ("one who is sent" is the meaning of "apostle"). Their instructions were to preach repentance, drive out demons, and heal the sick in Jesus' name. In the second sentence, Jesus tells them to come away with him and rest a while. It would be nice for us to imagine that, between those two sentences, a look of amazed gratitude and pleasure crossed the face of Jesus as he hears of the kingdom proclaimed in his name, and how they didn't have to shake the dust off their feet anywhere. They deserved a rest! It might not be bad for us, when we gather together with Jesus as the apostles do today, to do this kind of debriefing, allowing the Lord to hear what we've sought to do in his name, our successes, our failures, our need to get away with him for a while to be fortified for further work in God's name. For we, the baptized, are not only the flock of Jesus Christ; through water and the power of the Spirit we have also become the Body of Christ, the presence of the Shepherd for the life of the world. info@sanisidro.org - Tel. 5 Sharing/Compar endo Missionaries of Jesus The Missionaries of Jesus (MJ) is an international and multicultural religious missionary community. It was founded in the Philippines on 12 June 2002 by a group of forty-one men called and inspired by the mission and humanity of Jesus, who calls us to make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19). We call ourselves, friends and disciples. It is our desire to gather more friends and co-disciples. Our objective is the promotion of the universality of the Christian message through presence (witness and dialogue of like), proclamation, and prayer. Our mission is to unveil the real face of Jesus hidden in our brothers and sisters in any mountain and plain; forest and city we work and live as we gather Jesus friends and disciples. We are working in the Philippines in (Antipolo, Modesta, Cubao, Baguio, Davao, Digos, Lanao, Lubang Islands), in Papua New Guinea (Lae), in Guatemala (Tierra Blanca) and in the USA (Los Angeles and Washington, DC). One of the MJ priorities is to work and live with the indigenous people Relief and health care for the indigenous people in the Diocese of Lae in Papua New Guinea. Education Work (Literacy Program) among the indigenous people in the mountains of the Prelature of Digos, Philippines. Pastoral work (Catechetical Formation) among the catechists in the Parish of Marahan in Davao, Philippines and also in the Parish of San Marcos in tfhe Prelature of Peten, Guatemala. Bio Data Fr. Joseph Guerrero, M.J. Rev. Joseph Guerrero was born in Bontoc, Mt. Province, Philippines. He entered the seminary of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) in June 1977 and was ordained as priest on December 3, In June 1986, Rev. Guerrero was sent to Guatemala for this first mission assignment. In 1990, he worked with the Maya Q eqchi in Coban, Alta Verapaz. In 1994 to 2000, he was appointed as CICM Provincial Superior of the Guatemalan Province. In 2001 he came back to the Philippines and rendered pastoral services at a parish in Bauko, Bontoc, Mt. Province. In June 12, 2002, he joined the foundation of the Missionaries of Jesus (MJ) and volunteered to do missionary work in Balabagan, Lanao del Sur until From June 2007 up to the present, he works with Revs. Jose Guerrero and Rey Tejico, also members of the Missionaries of Jesus, in the Apostolic Vicariate of Peten, Guatemala, particularly in the Mission of San Marcos Evangelista, Tierra Blanca, Sayaxche, Peten. The primary evangelization task is to bring personally the presence of Jesus in the 45 villages within our pastoral care, to announce the message of hope and to celebrate Life with the people as a Church and through the sacraments. 10 God Speaks Today/Dios Habla Hoy Evangelio de la Semana San Marcos 6:30-34 Los apóstoles se reunieron con Jesús y le contaron todo lo que habían hecho y lo que habían enseñado. Él entonces, les dice: Venid también vosotros aparte, a un lugar solitario, para descansar un poco. Pues los que iban y venían eran muchos, y no les quedaba tiempo ni para comer. Y se fueron en la barca, aparte, a un lugar solitario. Pero les vieron marcharse y muchos cayeron en cuenta; y fueron allá corriendo, a pie, de todas las ciudades y llegaron antes que ellos. Y al desembarcar, vio mucha gente, sintió compasión de el los, pues estaban como ovejas que no tienen pastor, y se puso a enseñarles muchas cosas. Reflexión Dominical Hay una cierta "conexión" que falta entre las dos primeras oraciones del Evangelio de hoy. En la primera los apóstoles regresan de la misión a la que habían sido enviados de dos en dos ("apóstol" en griego significa "enviado"). Habían sido enviados a predicar la conversión, a expulsar a los demonios, y a sanar a los enfermos en el nombre de Jesús. En la segunda oración, Jesús les dice que se vengan con el a un Lugar solitario para descansar un poco. Nos gustaría pensar que, entre esas dos oraciones, una expresión de placer y gratitud cruzo el rostro de Jesús al oír como el Reino ha sido proclamado en su nombre, y como no tuvieron que sacudirse el polvo de los pies en ninguna parte.!bien se merecían un descanso! A nosotros tampoco nos vendría mal, cuando nos juntamos alrededor de Jesús como los apóstoles en el Evangelio de hoy, que nos tomáramos un descanso, para que el Señor pueda escuchar lo que hemos hecho en su nombre -nuestros éxitos, nuestras decepciones, nuestra necesidad de "escaparnos" un rato con el para que nos fortalezca para seguir trabajando en el nombre de Dios.
