2 The aeroscopia museum

3 aeroscopia opened its doors in January 2015, driven by many aeronautical associations, grouped under the name of «Terre d Envol» (Cap Avenir Concorde, Académie de l Air et de l Espace, Aérothèque, Des étoiles et des ailes, Flight Heritage, Spot Air, Virtu Ailes) and the Ailes Anciennes Toulouse, the city of Blagnac and Airbus, with support from Toulouse urban community, the Occitanie region and the Haute-Garonne council. This complex covers 15,000 sq. meters and is entirely dedicated to aviation, combining a museum, a restaurant, a documentation centre on aeronautics and many discovery and animation areas. After winning the call for tender launched by the city of Blagnac in March 2012, Manatour was appointed manager of aeroscopia for a renewable six-year term, as from the opening on 14th January aeroscopia also hosts several receptive zones: the Evénement Ciel area, which can be privatised for evening events and the seminar rooms and the auditorium in the Ferme de Pinot. Opened during summer 2017, the Ferme de Pinot is an old iconic château belonging to the town of Blagnac, and has recently become the extension of the museum, symbolising the link between the town s history and its long time involvement in the aeronautical industry. A shop enables visitors to take home a souvenir of their visit, offering a wide range of products, from pens and scale models to T-shirts or toys, posters, postcards, books and DVDs on aviation. The Sky-Trotter, a 150 seat restaurant with a terrace opening onto the parc, enables visitors or passers-by to enjoy lunch or a snack, each day of the year. to the lake will also showcase some legendary aircraft. The A380 will be opened to visits, on both decks, with an innovative layout enabling visitors to discover the world of aircraft manufacturing (innovation, assembly, cabin furnishing, environment ). By the quality of its collections, this new layout will reinforce the museum s role as a guardian of the aeronautical heritage and its anchorage in the Toulouse region. It stands today among the three most visited sites in Toulouse, together with the Museum of Natural History and the Cité de l Espace. aeroscopia has a multiple objective: A Promoting the history of aviation and its local anchorage in Toulouse; A Facilitating the transmission of scientific and technical knowledge and know-how, through experimentation; A Sensitizing the younger audience to jobs in aviation and creating vocations. Under its characteristic 7,000 sq. meter canopy, the aeroscopia museum showcases a very rich collection of civil and military aircraft, among which several can be visited. Around the aircraft, many scale models, as well as videos and animations for all ages and a historic fresco, recount the history of aviation, from its origins to today. The «Atelier des avions», located just next to the Ferme de Pinot, groups the collection of aircraft belonging to the Ailes Anciennes association - who restores and preserves the aircraft composing the aeronautical heritage of Toulouse - and the Aérothèque and Cap Avenir Concorde associations. Guided tours are regularly organised, for young and old. Access for all is a prority for aeroscopia. All of the premises are accessible to the disabled and the museum proposes audioguided and sign language tours, as well as a special sensory tour for visually impaired people. A tour designed for intellectually impaired people is also available. aeroscopia was awarded the «Tourism and Handicap» label in About Manatour Founded in 1990, Manatour is the French number 1 for industrial tourism and proposes tours of the great industrial sites in the Occitanie region (aeronautics, media, wholesale food, energy, water processing...). Due to its unrivalled knowledge of the great sites, the receptive and cultural locations, and logistics in the region, Manatour also boasts an «Event and hospitality» department, which organises cultural tours, touristic stays, team building activities, seminars, company guided tours and tailored programmes for groups (companies, staff councils, sport associations, senior clubs ). Manatour also organises big events in the museum, in a unique location. Several different visits are proposed: independent tours, guided thematic tours, the discovery tour, the family tour Children are given special attention, with a story tour and a free booklet: «Rallye in the museum». Planned in 2019, the opening of a new outdoor zone, the North Tarmac, will double the exhibition surface and will welcome new aircraft : an Airbus A380, an A , the very first A320, a Beluga and an ATR42. 5 As soon as they arrive at aeroscopia, visitors are drawn in, on the outdoor area, by the supersonic Concorde, next to a Caravelle (twin-jet aircraft manufactured by Sud-Aviation then Aerospatiale between 1958 and 1973) and an A400M (Airbus latest military transport and in-flight refueling aircraft). Inside the museum, under a semi-circular canopy designed by Toulouse architects Kardham, over twenty aircraft are on display, on two levels: Legendary aircraft (Blériot XI), commercial aircraft (Concorde, A300B, Super Guppy), business aircraft (Falcon 10, Corvette), tourism and leisure aircraft (Pou du ciel, Noralpha, Espadon, Sky Ranger ), scientific aircraft (Fairchild Swearingen SA226-AT Merlin IVA), military aircraft (Thunderjet, MiG-15, Starfighter, Mirage III, Crusader, Jaguar, Cessna 337, Morane-Saulnier, Fouga Magister), helicopters (Gazelle, Alouette II Marine), and even a drone (Nord-Aviation CT 20). A mezzanine gallery, overlooking the aircraft, presents a series of 1/25 th scale models recounting the milestones of aircraft production in Toulouse, from the twenties until today: from pre-war planes manufactured by Emile Dewoitine like the D.1 C1 or the D.520, the mythical fighter jet of the Second World War, to the flagships of Toulouse industry, such as Caravelle and the entire Airbus family. A great 58 meter long fresco recounts the history of aviation and its roots in Toulouse, from Clément Ader s Eole to the A350XWB. It is also designed for the younger audience, with a question and answer game with Scopi, the museum s mascot. The fresco, designed by the Aérothèque, a Toulouse association for the preservation of the aeronautical heritage, also includes short historical videos. Several exceptional pieces linked to aviation are also on display: an A380 engine pylon, a replica of the «Antoinette barrel», the very first wooden flight simulator, dating back to 1910, and a «Concorde» corner, designed by the Cap Avenir Concorde association and presenting some fifteen unique items. Since January 2018, a Concorde simulator has joined the museum s collection. This first «modern» simulator is the unique Concorde simulator in France. Built in 1975, it was used for the training of pilots, first at the Aeroformation centre in Blagnac for twenty years, before being transfered to the Air France premises in Paris in 1994, where it was used for training crews until the end of Concorde commercial flights in After returning to Toulouse, the simulateur was renovated by the Virtu ailes association and Airbus. Finally, 6 interactive and thematic corners complete the collection of aircraft. Visitors can have a hands-on experience, by experimenting and testing, through simulators and quizzes: A «Travelling backstage»: a journey through plane travel behind the scenes, through a fun and interactive trail and the discovery of the different steps which we do not usually see, from preparation for flight to guiding the pilot after landing on the runway, and of course air traffic management, cabin pressurization and even the international aviation codes. A «Aviation jobs»: this themed area presents a selection of jobs linked to aviation, either in industry (painter, fitter-adjuster, method preparation technician, structure engineer ) or in operations (maintenance mechanic, traffic agent, air controller ). Handling operations, quizzes and samples enable visitors to get a concrete perception of some of the fascinating aspects of working in aviation. A «Assembling an aircraft» leads to the discovery of the main parts of an aircraft and the different steps in assembly. On a tactile screen, visitors can select items in order to create their own aircraft, chose the colors of their airline and even try to have their plane take off! A «Flight mechanics» enables visitors to take place aboard a simulator and discover flight commands, rudders and plane movements. In order to understand how one flies an aircraft, this thematic area explains notions such as pitch or yaw, in a fun way. The demonstrations are completed with a fresco showing the evolution of flight commands through history. A «Aeronautical archaeology»: this thriving discipline helps find remains of a disappeared aircraft and discover information about its pilot and his mission. The interdisciplinary approach of the Aérocherche association helps investigate and share discoveries with the families of the lost. Scale models, original aircraft parts, photos and personal items of the crews enable visitors to immerse in the world of the pilots of flying machines such as the D.520, the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Ju 88 and the Laté 298, and of course Chuck Yeager s P51 Mustang and its machine gun. A «Projection into the future»: designed by Airbus, this thematic area shaped like a futuristic igloo is dedicated to aeronautical innovation. With the documentary film «The Future by Airbus», visitors will discover how the European leader in civil and military aviation anticipates and designs tomorrow s aircraft. State-of-the-art technologies and scientific excellence are used here in order to address the great challenges in terms of environment, mobility, defence, safety and security.

7 Visio-guidance Visitors can choose the content corresponding to their profile: description of the collection, guided tour of the entire museum or young audience visit. Visio-guidance is available in 5 languages: French, English, German, Spanish and sign language. Guided tours for all For those who want more than an independent tour of the museum, many guided tours are available, for all audiences: A «Discovery tour»: a tour aimed at discovering the roots of aeronautical history in Toulouse. Several stops around the historical fresco, the museum s three main aircraft and some of the thematic areas, with technical notions. An ideal addition to the independent visit or to some of the other thematic visits. A School visits: the museum organises specific visits depending on the school level. The visits are designed with the Toulouse Academy, for nursery-school, elementary, secondary or high school pupils. Designed with a teacher seconded to the museum, educational kits are available for teachers. Animations and workshops for all ages The Embarquements immédiats (Immediate boarding): free thematic animations, lasting minutes, are proposed every Wednesday, on week-ends and during school holidays. Themes change depending on the ongoing events at the museum and can revolve around scientific aspects, the collection of aircraft or more litterary concepts such as: «A for aircraft and anecdotes», «Crossing the Channel», «The myth of Icarus» A «Family discovery tour»: a family tour enabling to get familiar with the museum and the origins of aviation, while discovering the main principles of aviation in a fun way. The tour passes under Concorde, close to the A300B, the Super Guppy and the Alouette, and reveals their secrets and characteristics. A «Military aviation tour»: visitors learn about the growing importance of military aviation, from its origins as part of the naval or ground forces, to its essential role today in a country s safety. Young audience workshops are organised, depending on the museum s programming. They are free of charge and intended for families, except in the case of group visits: «Reading for young pilots», «Draw me an aircraft from the museum», «Paper planes», «Action-Reaction». A «Concorde, the legendary aircraft tour»: with several stops around the two Concordes showcased at the museum, this tour explains the origins and characteristics of the mythical supersonic aircraft. During the visit, the guide shares unusual informations about flying on Concorde. A Story tours for the younger ones: these fun visits embark the young visitors in the imaginary world of Mr Pirouette, an aviation enthusiast. A professional storyteller tells them all about the history of aviation and presents some of the museum s aircraft.

8 Pedagogic workshops for scholars In addition to the pedagogical visits for schools, the museum organises many workshops, destined to children from nursery to high school: Décollage immédiat! (Immediate take-off! / children from 3 to 6): Little travellers discover the preparation of a flight: preparing flight documents, chosing a destination, preparing your suitcase according to the weatherforecast. The workshop is carried out like a role-playing game where children can experiment travel and the related jobs, as well as the different parts of an aircraft. Each one plays a role so that that aircraft can take off at due time! Does air exist? (from 7 to 9): What surrounds us nothing? Or is it air? Scopi, the museum s mascot, needs help in order to understand how to fly. After a discussion with the mediator, the children ask themselves questions and experiment the existence of air in a simple and fun way, through little experiments. This initiation to science continues with an explanation on the essential use of air in order to fly and the importance of the shape of flying objects. Will Scopi find the answer to his question? On your marks, get set, write! (from 12 to 15): An introduction to documentary research through cartoons. The children s goal is to fill in a comic strip about two iconic aircraft from the museum. Therefore, they are learn how to do documentary research at the museum s ressource centre. Divided into small groups for researching and writing, they are taught how to look for information and learn all about two major aeronautical events. A supersonic challenge (high school): When the first supersonic aircraft took to the air, already 70 years ago, some thought that the future of aviation was all mapped out. But today, no supersonic aircraft is flying anymore. This workshop will lead the pupils to understand the speed of sound, as well as the technical, economical and ecological problems linked to overtaking this speed. Will they manage to take up this challenge? Cultural events all year round Envolées Cultur Ailes: on the occasion of great national events such as National Heritage Day, National Women s Day, Museum Night, The Science Festival the museum organises conferences, readings, animations and guided tours, in partnership with various associations. Carnets de Bord: these exceptional events are organised on special occasions such as the 60 th anniversary of Caravelle or the 40 th anniversary of Concorde s first flight : exceptional visits of aircraft normally closed to visits, photo exhibitions, testimonies of veterans, cartoon workshops Aircraft and material a long story! (from 9 to 12) : A flying time machine, a crazy scientist, a dream flying! The children have a mission : the must place some aircraft back into their time and match the according materials. With the help of a chronologic fresco, this workshop leads them to identify the link between aircraft, time and material, and to understand their evolution. After a first part dedicated to history, the children can then experiment the characteristics of different materials used in aeronautical manufacturing.

9 The Pierre Sparaco Aeronautical Documentary Resource Centre

10 The resource centre also hosts the collection of aeronautical photos taken by Toulouse photographer Jean Dieuzaide between 1954 and 1972, bought by the city of Blagnac in 2005, representing over 3,000 photos, negative films and slides, recounting the history of the Sud-Aviation and Aérospatiale industries. Recently, thanks to the initiative of the Académie de l air et de l espace, a new collection of 10,000 aeronautical photos taken by Guy Viselé has joined the collection. Also, the city of Blagnac has recently bought the collection of aeronautical works by Roger Astruc, former head of advertising for Sud-Aviation and Aerospatiale, whose artistic talent is undisputed. Constituting, enriching, preserving and promoting the Toulouse aeronautical heritage are the missions of the Aeronautical Documentary Resource Centre of the aeroscopia museum, located in the Ferme de Pinot. Aeronautics are indeed linked to the Toulouse region since the beginning of the 20th century and transmitting the aeronautical culture is essential in order to understand the construction of the identity of the region since then. Several prestigious libraries, icluding the personal books and archive documents of journalist Pierre Sparaco, are the starting point of a collection which is constantly growing, representing a total of 2,500 documents, books, photos and audiovisual documents, which can be consulted on site. All types of archive documents and photos, which are essential for historical research, can be scanned or digitalised by the museum and returned to their owners. Everyone can contribute to preserving the aeronautical memories by providing their life stories. 12 The Evénement Ciel area, in the heart of the museum The receptive areas in the Ferme de Pinot Located five minutes from Toulouse-Blagnac airport and from the future Toulouse Exhibition Centre, aeroscopia regularly hosts, in the heart of the museum, company events such as gala evenings, prestige dinners, product launches, seminars and team-building events in the Evénement Ciel zone, a 500 sq. meter heated area, located in the heart of the museum, with a unique view onto the collection of aircraft. This unique setting can host up to 400 people in a standing configuration and 290 people for a seated dinner, and the offer includes the free visit of the museum. Many services are available: catering, animations, artistic shows and performances, audiovisual and technical equipment and support, broadcast, cloakroom, hostesses, security agents. A coordinator is dedicated to the event. Located next to the aeroscopia museum, opposite the Airbus assembly lines, the Ferme de Pinot offers a wide range of services for company events : rental of rooms for seminars, catering, organisation of team-building events, or privatisation of spaces for evenings. The Ferme de Pinot hosts: A a 67 seat auditorium (including 3 places for disabled people) ; A the Azur lounge (46 sq. meters), which can host up to 45 people in a theatre configuration ; A the Alizée lounge (40 sq. meters), which can host up to 36 people in a theatre configuration. Both lounges can be opened to form a single lounge of 85 sq. meters, hosting up to 87 people in a theatre configuration. Several options are proposed, such as: A full day or half day rental of a lounge, equipped with video projector, paperboard and seminar kit ; A coffee welcome and coffee-break ; A lunch at the Sky-Trotter restaurant. Companies can also add a guided tour of the museum or a visit of an iconic site in the region («Airbus Discovery tour» or other company tours) or an animation (investigation at the museum, photos ).

14 The shop The Sky-Trotter restaurant A new public park Located at the entrance of the museum, the aeroscopia shop is open to all and enables visitors and aviation fans to bring home a souvenir, a gift or an object linked to aviation. The shop offers over 800 products, from keyrings, pens and postcards to clothes, scale-models, posters, books and DVDs about aviation, including a wide range of toys, gadgets and leather goods. Located close to the museum, in the Ferme de Pinot, the Sky-Trotter is a 150 seat restaurant, including a large room with an atrium window, two more intimate rooms, and a terrace opening onto the park. The Sky-Trotter is open all year round, all day from 11:30 to 18 :00, and welcomes visitors and passers-by, for gourmet breaks all day or for lunch between 11:45 and 14:00. Covering 6 hectares, the Pinot park, extended by woods, now welcomes aeroscopia visitors as well as ramblers, as soon as they walk out of the carpark. This public park is the latest green area developed by the city of Blagnac. Equipped with children s games and a picnic area, it hosts the historical Tintin s rocket, which was once exposed in the farm s yard. Proposing homemade cuisine from quality ingredients, mostly provided by local producers and label products, Sky-Trotter is a meeting place for the taste buds. Cooking is both traditional, with regional specialties, and sometimes proposes an invitation to travel, with worldwide specialties. The Sky-Trotter restaurant offers group formulas (for tourists, businesses, schools ), and different formulas for lunch. Close to the aeroscopia museum, the Atelier des Avions and the Ferme de Pinot, it benefits from a privileged and enjoyable setting. School groups can also order picnic formulas and enjoy them in the park, or in the picnic room available in the Ferme de Pinot in case of bad weather. Equipped with WiFi, the Sky-Trotter restaurant also offers the possibility to organise evening events and has free parking spaces nearby.

15 The Atelier des avions (the aircraft workshop)

16 Just next to the Ferme de Pinot, the «Atelier des avions» showases, on 15,000 sq ; meters made avialable by the city of Blagnac, the collection of aircraft of several associations, the Ailes Anciennes Toulouse, Aérothèque and Cap Avenir Concorde. These associations work on the restoration and preservation of the aircraft constituting the aeronautical heritage of the Toulouse region, in a 1,550 sq. meter hangar. The Aérothèque association, conservatory of the Toulouse aeronautical heritage, has its offices on the site and regularly organises guided tours, for young and for old, including for scholars. Some of the key aircraft include : the Nord 1 100, the Super Guppy, the Caravelle, the Dakota, the T33, the Fouga Magister, the Mirage III, the Deltaveix, the Pipistrelle, the two-deck Bréguet... Visitors can purchase double tickets including the visit of the museum and the Ailes Anciennes.
