The Hot Rudder Bum Cruise is just around the corner and you should hear more about that from Tracy. With COW coming up in November the general meeting on Oct 24th will be very important. We will be voting for new officers as well as the rest of the board. If you cannot make the meeting, you need to request and absentee ballot from our Yeoman so you can vote. It is the Hot Rudder Bum cruise and you will find a flyer attached. We are going to try combining a murder mystery into the weekend fun. Sign up and call Delin Docks (253) before Oct. 16 th to reserve your spot. It will be some spooky fun. We have a lot coming up. At our next meeting, we will be voting on new officers and then heading to Charlie s for the Change of Watch. The Christmas auction is rapidly approaching and Pam Marzano and Ann Gagner will be gathering auction items for a fun time. The US Coast Guard proposes to make various changes to its anchorage regulations relating to Puget Sound. It proposes to make five general anchorages smaller; to rename and reorganize 33 CFR ; and to modify the descriptions of four general anchorages. Comments on these proposals should be submitted by 3 December. 77 Fed. Reg (October 2, 2012). Canada conviction for harassing killer whales Fisheries and Oceans Canada issued a news release stating that a recreational boater was convicted of harassing killer whales in the Campbell River, British Columbia after he was observe repeatedly accelerating toward two killer whales and then powering up behind them. If you plan to GO OFFSHORE (Great Lakes, Atlantic, Pacific, and the Gulf of Mexico) consider taking an EPIRB and PLB. It could save your life! An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) is used to alert search and rescue services in the event of an emergency. It does this by transmitting a coded message on the 406 MHz distress frequency to a satellite that is then relayed by earth stations to the nearest rescue coordination center within moments of activation. EPIRBs that are equipped with a built-in GPS enables the rescue sources to more accurately identify your position and respond to the emergency. Personal Location Beacons (PLB) are another type of 406 MHz emergency signaling devise. Usually smaller than an EPIRB, these devices are designed for individual personal use. There are many models available and functions can vary. These are not recommended for maritime use unless they are fully waterproof and can be submerged. Choose the device that suites your needs and is right for your boating situation. Proper registration of your EPIRB or PLB is essential. This should be done at the time of purchase.
