Box of mostly Tasmanian 1950s-60s covers with loads of registered items from around the island, also slogans - many of these are very scarce from Tasmania - & meters, a few KGV Postal Stationery Envelopes including Star 1d red for Mt Lyell Mining & Railway Co, 1924 to Ulverstone with KGV 1½d x2 & 'TPO WESTERN LINE/TAS' cds, also 1931 commercial airmail cover to Holland with 'MT KOSCIUSKO/NSW' cds and a few PPCs including advertising for Fry's Cocoa used at Sydney & British "Aston Villa Football Ground" during a soccer match; finally 100+ mostly 1980s inwards covers mostly from Germany but also noticed China & Malaysia. (750 approx) Military Mail mostly from WWII with Field POs etc within & outside Australia, many registered items including from Northern Territory & Papua plus from several Mil POs & a couple with Security Number cds, a few later including BCOF & Vietnam registereds, 1950s OHMS with 'PAID AT AFPO PEARCE/WA' cds in black & in red, etc, also 1938 'FIELD POST OFFICE/No 2/VIC AUST' AIF Gold Day registered PPC x4, condition variable. (120 approx) CPS 296 PS A/B 297 CPS 298 C 299 CPS Ex Lot 295 Commercial mail including 1938 airmails via Hong Kong to ship passenger at Hawaii x2 both at 3/4d rate the first forwarded to California, the other returned with 'TOO LATE FOR STEAMER' cachet, plus to USA x2 one paid 3/7d & taxed mss 'T16 2/3', the other paid 9/3d double rate with Roos 2/- x2 & 5/- (roughly opened), then KGV frankings, advert covers, Stationery including PTPO envelopes noted KGVI 1½d for Shire ofnewham and Woodend, also Victoria with postmark interest including 1905 'FOSTERVILLE' & BN '1982' both in blue, 1938 'PAID AT/KYNETON VIC', 'WOODEND NORTH' unframed with poor BN '414' & 1952 cds on 1d Postage Due (faults), Glover Onians & Co cover with 'GO/&C' perfin, etc, condition very mixed but those mentioned generally fine. (100+) Registration Envelopes comprising Sideface 5d, 'FOURPENCE/HALFPENNY' on 5d & 4½d x3, Oval 4½d & 5d x2 used, all but one with red R labels; also small Colonies group including Victoria d Lettercard with 'LIST ROOM/No1' oval d/s, and d Lettercard to Straits Settlements with 'PENANG TO SINGAPORE' marine sorter cds on face, etc, some minor blemishes. (19) KGV frankings on covers & postcards including PPCs, noted municipal users, frankings including Engraved 1d x2, ½d green solo, many 1d reds, 1½d greens, 2d oranges, etc, unchecked by us for varieties, rather mixed. (100+) Carton of International Post covers & a few postcards mostly airmail to Europe with range of issues, noted mixed domestic/international frankings, potential postmark interest, duplication but ideal for study, fine condition. (3000+) Group including 1915 Sydney postcard wallet with KGV 1d red x2, 1923 to UK with KGV 2d and boxed 'DAMAGED BY IMMERSION/IN SEA WATER IS' h/s, 1925 registered with large red 'DARWIN' label, 1938 with 'GEELONG CENTENARY' cinderella, 1941 POW postcard airmail to England, STO envelopes for Brooke's Coffee (illustrated) and Australian Glass, also batch of Pre-Decimal FDCs and commemorative covers with range of cachets, etc, condition generally fine. (few 100) Illustrated advertising covers for Victorian firms including Fosters Lager, Australian Licorice, Hotel Alexander, Cole's Book Arcade, Crompton Lamps, Precedent Radio, Twin City Tractors, etc, also for Norwegian Shipping & Trade Mission to USA (noted as British Naval Intelligence undercover address!), condition variable. (19) Album of mostly pre-1946 advertising covers with many illustrated types including for Avery Scales, Cliff Howe Ventriloquist, Southern Cross Windmills, HJ Plint Markets (Brisbane), Rosentengel Furniture, Repco Piston Rings, Owen French Piano Factory, John Jaffray Machinery (all-over advert on reverse but damaged on opening) etc, also for Morris Bros (Perth) with text on back "You owe it to your wife...that your home shall have a Refrigerator..."!, Crookwell NSW all-over adverts for local firms & 1935 Bible Sunday, condition variable. An excellent basis for an exciting new collecting interest. (103) 1913 double-rate commercial cover with Oriental Hotel (Melbourne) imprint in "gold" to Germany with scarce franking of 5d Kangaroo (Cat $1000 on cover) tied by 'ENGLISH MAIL TPO/OUT' cds, opened a bit roughly at top postcard from UK to Tasmania endorsed "OAS" unstamped but with circular check cachet and 'PASSED BY CENSOR' cachet in red, another with cachet in violet, also a few with GB stamps or sent under cover, then quantity of unused 'Art' PPCs, couple of Tasmanian plus KGV 1d green Postal Card with printed 'Second Class Mail' endorsement and Myer advertising used 1932, mostly fine condition. 3 Page:3 May 19, C B 307 C/CX A/B Lot (Apr 3) commercial cover from Malaya with FMS 12c Tiger tied by 'TAIPING/FMS' cds, endorsed "By Air Mail only Sydney to Melbourne" but sent via Western Australia where boxed 'FORWARDED/BY AIR MAIL' cachet, 'DERBY' cds & 'T(6d")' h/s applied, on arrival at Brighton (Vic) Postage Due ½d x2 1d x2 & 3d affixed & cancelled with indelible pencil, minor blemishes. A remarkable cover, never before on the market. Proceeds to Walter & Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research Midget 3 meters with unnumbered proof impressions with Herald or Cyclone Fencing slogans, then commercial covers with '16' for C&G (registered), 'A7' for William Adams (large front with 2d & 3d x4), 'B1' for Melbourne Electric Supply Co (registered), 'B4' with 'GLASS CONTAINERS' slogan, 'B7' with Remington Typewriters slogan, & 'D1' for United Press & Pictorial Newspapers. (9) C B 309 C 310 CX C 311 CL B Lot (c) red/black 'INTERSTATE/PARCEL POST' label with 'SARGOOD BROS' h/s in violet & remarkable franking of Third Wmk 9d & 1/- x5 + KGV 2d orange all with 'SB' perfins tied by a largely complete strike of the huge undated 'CHIEF PARCEL OFFICE/MELBOURNE' handstamp, a couple of small faults. [Between 1901 & 1929, the rate was 5/8d for an interstate parcel weighing between 10 & 11LB, the maximum weight permitted. The additional 3d was a registration fee] 1930s-40s group to Dr SL "Lance" Townsend in Northern Territory x2, ataustralia House (London) x2 with 6d Airmail, 1942 in Egypt & 1943 in Ceylon x6, also from him with Northern Territory Administration OHMS x6 variously franked including 1/1d double letter rate + triple air rate, c.1942 Luxor Hotel (Egypt) envelope with KGVI 3d x3 tied Melbourne '1' killer and boxed 'PASSED BY/9625/NAVAL CENSOR' cachet, etc, condition quite mixed. (27) 1933 long cover registered to London endorsed "Aust-KARACHI-LONDON AIR MAIL/PER SS STRATHAIRD" with Kangaroos CofA Wmk 2/- & 5/- and KGV 3d & 1/4d tied Sydney '14SE33' cds, by internal airmail with Perth '18SEP33' b/s then ship to India and Imperial Airways, on arrival British 'Found open...' tape affixed and endorsed "Came to hand in London EC with edge open" on back, heavy central fold not affecting stamps and minor aging long cover airmail to Capetown with Kangaroos CofA Wmk 5/-, KGV 5d and Jubilee 2d (rounded corner) tied Sydney '2-JY35' cds paying 2/10d first ½oz plus 2/9d second ½oz rate for carriage by QANTAS / IAL to Egypt with '12JL35/RECD PAR/AVION/ALEXANDRIE' transit b/s and Imperial Flying Boat service to South Africa, minor fold not affecting stamps. 200

4 Page:4 May 19, CPS A/B Ex Lot airmail covers to USA & UK per Pan Am FAM-19 Pacific Clipper service including quadruple 19/8d rate to New York with Robes 5/- & 10/-, KGVI 1½d Postal Cards uprated to 2/- x2 (one with AIF 6d) or 1/11d, correctly rated 3/11d per ½oz from Jervis Bay (ACT) airmail to US only and by ship to UK, 5/10d UK rate x6 and 11/8d double-rate x3 (one a small cover with Robes 10/-), a few registered, many with 'CALIFORNIA CLIPPER' cachet & all censored, condition variable but mostly fine. (24) 950 T 313 C A/B 314 CO B 315 C/CL 316 C B 317 CPS 318 C/CL A/B 319 DCPS 320 OCPS 321 CPS Ex Lot POW Envelope from a POW in Hong Kong to his wife "Hong Kong Evacuee/Hong Kong Liaison Officer/ Sydney"; 1943 from Brazil endorsed ".../Toronto/Canada" on the flap to "Hong Kong Liaison Officer/For Hong Kong Evacuees/Sydney", non-contemporary note "Gripsholm" on the reverse; and 1943 surface & 1944 airmail covers to London to Friends Committee for Refugees & Aliens or the Jewish Refugees Committee. (4) 1956 oversize airmail cover (306x253mm) to London with extraordinary franking of Olympics 7½d block of 8, 1/- x11 including block of 6 & 2/- block of 12 plus Arms 1 all tied by newly introduced 'MELBOURNE/ AIR / 2 /VIC-AUST' cds with SDL, some creasing & a few peripheral faults that are of little consequence. Impressive! [The rate was 2/- per ½oz x30 = 60/- = 3] commercial covers all with AAT frankings including 5d Surcharge surface to GB, 8d Surcharge airmail postcard to Hong Kong, 1/- underpaid to India & taxed, 1/- pair air to USA, 2/- Map stamp including commercial airmails +3d to Rumania, x3 & x4 multiple-rates to GB, pair + 10/- Arms septuple rate to GB, block of 6 - with Flagstaff Retouch - sextuple rate to USA, also single & block of 4 on registered philatelic cover to East Germany. Unusual lot. (16) 1962 commercial cover to "NZ Met Station/Funafuti/Gilbert & Ellice Is" with QE 3d only & mss "T 4d", G&E Postage Due 1d & 3d tied by 'FUNAFUTI' cds, roughly opened & flap largely removed. 1970s-2000s covers, stationery & postcards mostly airmail to Europe, noted single & multiple frankings, some registered, special services, taxed & adverts, variety of issues & rates, potential postmark interest, fine condition. (3000+) inwards penpal correspondence including from Kuwait, Zaire, Cuba, British Honduras, Belize, Bermuda, Cyprus, Costa Rica, Singapore, Trinidad & Tobago, Russia, Malta, New Caledonia, East Germany etc. [NB: these covers are actually to Papua New Guinea](70) Another large carton crammed with covers, postal stationery & PPCs, lots of instructional markings & datestamp interest including many on piece, etc, condition variable.
