COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA - Flight Covers C A Lot (Oct) England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race commemorative cover carried by CWA Scott & T Campbell-Black AAMC #433, registered at Melbourne for return to England, autographed on reverse "CWAScott", Cat $900+ (2002). [A very similar cover sold for $977 at our auction of 18/11/2006] 1, Ex Lot 190 C* ROCKET MAILS: Brian Farmer's 5-frame exhibit awarded Vermeil at Aeropex 2004 and including sheetlets AAMC #R1a, R2a, R3a, R4c, R5c, R7b, R9b & R10b plus covers from all except the first flight - a couple being autographed - plus the Jubilee flimsies in blue/blue & red/yellow. The "pioneer" era occupies 1½ frames & is followed by an array of covers from 1964 to 1977 (after which the series was interrupted for 10 years) including Bell Rocketman #R12 (Cat $600) & R13 ($500). With one exception the later Woomera flights are not recorded by Eustis so this apparently comprehensive collection of mostly illustrated covers, many of which are autographed, is a valuable reference. Generally speaking the quality of the collection, which concludes with a selection of balloon flight covers, is very fine throughout. Rare & colourful. Ceremuga Certificate (2004) states "Genuine in all respects...surface scuffing & related repair in small area at upper-left". [Only 5000 were printed] NEW GUINEA - Mandated Territory Issues 619 C A SOUTH WEST AFRICA 691 CPS SWITZERLAND Lot Pflum cover to United States with rare combination franking of Huts 1d & 2d tied by 'RABAUL' cds, plus United States 8c green & 16c indigo Airs tied by San Francisco duplex. Ex Ray Kelly. [Prepayment of the US internal airmail fee of 8c per zone was permitted from Pflum pre-serviced his covers with the stamps of both countries & examples from Australia & Papua are known with the American stamps cancelled at the point of posting. Vendor states that only one other such combination cover from New Guinea is recorded] 1932 flights with use of Overprinted 1d Envelope registered to England with 'OMARURU' cds & 'AIRMAIL/OMARURU/LUGPOS' cancel, from Windhoek to England registered with large & small pictorial cds, from Keetmanshoop to Capetown or Northern Rhodesia and one other in poor condition, also 1939 SWA-Angola First Flight. (6) 1,000T 300 Ex Lot O*/**C volume mint & used collection commencing with used 1851 Rayon 1 5r (repaired) & Rayon 2 10r, Sitting Helvetia 40r Imperf, mint including 1918 Industrielle Kriegs-Wirtschaft Officials basic set, 1945 PAX to 10fr lightly mounted. Better M/Ss sighted including Cantonal Centenary (2, both types used), 1945 Basel Dove & War Relief, 1948 'IMABA', 1951 'LUNABA' (creasing) & 1955 Lausanne all mint. However, as is often the case with broad subjects, the vendor discovered he had bitten off more than he could comfortably chew. His decision to concentrate on the local region has given us the opportunity to present his non-australasian material to you. We decided to make a separate section of it rather than list it throughout the catalogue under the individual countries. In this way, the collection retains a sense of cohesion that we hope will result in other clients embracing "registered mail" as a collecting subject. It is a fascinating and visually stimulating field that we commend to all prospective buyers] 718 PS A- Bahamas: 1930 Tercentenary set SG (Cat 150 x3+) tied to KGV 2d Registration Envelope to Florida by Nassau cds of 2JA30 being First Day of Issue of the stamps, superb 'FIRST DAILY FLIGHT/ NASSAU TO MIAMI/1930' h/s in rosine, faint spotting on reverse C A Lot 769 Gibraltar: 1933 cover to Brazil (b/s) "By Graf Zeppelin" with KGV 1/- & Pictorials 1½d, Berlin transits on the face along with 4.Sudamerikafahrt cachets in rosine & scarlet (which just ties the 'VIA ZEPPELIN/FRIEDRICHASHAFEN' label). Gorgeous, if you like this sort of thing! EXHIBITION ALLAHABAD' cachet n red-violet, boxed ' R / ALLAHABAD' h/s on an unusual oversized registration label that is also tied by the cachet. Stunning! Unusual usage of a postcard Morocco Agencies: 1934 Dec 1) Imperial Airways/Qantas illustrated cover for the inaugural service between England & Australia to Adelaide (b/s) with 'TANGIER' Opts tied by oval 'REGISTERED/BRITISH PO TANGIER' d/s, Darwin transit b/s. BALBO/FLIGHT/$4.50' on 75c SG 235 (Cat 325) cancelled on arrival with 'ST JOHNS/NEWFD' cds, various Italian transits, superb 'SHOAL HARBOUR/NEWFD' & rubber double-circle 'REGISTERED/ST JOHNS NF' cds in violet all on the reverse, light vertical fold. Bolaffi Certificate (1965) & lightly signed in pencil by him below the stamp.
