1 SCCHA NOVEMBER 2015 CORRAL CHATTER OUR PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE GOOD FELLOWSHIP BETWEEN HORSEMEN AND A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF HORSES. Hello All, I missed the meetings in October as I was on vacation celebrating my milestone Bday. Ouch!! But a sandy beach made it so much better to endure. I see that we have received some nominations for the 2016 officers and welcome their eagerness to participate. Our club appreciates those who donate their time, keeping us financially stable, helping to sustain old memberships as well as seeking out new ones. Our Junior members are so important and hopefully it will continue to grow as well. I would have sought out another year as your 2016 President but due to some medical issues I will sit on the 2016 board in the "Past President" position offering guidance if needed. I suggested that Karen Tarasco run for President because I believe that she will continue to guide the 2016 Board in keeping our financial responsibilities and corporate obligations in check will have more social events and horse activities now that our taxes are in order. I think we can concentrate more on adding monthly activities such as horse events and fundraisers to help obtain newer amenities for the grounds and hall. Some new picnic tables and shade areas would be awesome. The new sign will be installed on 11/5 instead of 11/4 which could be deemed the beginning of our new look. I look forward to seeing you all at our November 20 General Meeting to enjoy our awesome turkey dinner provided by your Officers and Board Members. Don't forget to save the date December 12, 2015 and buy your Installation Dinner tickets. We will have them available for purchase at the November General Meeting. It is important to purchase them in advance because we have to notify the caterer of the exact amount of dinners needed several weeks before. The cost is $25 per member and $35 per non-member. This is a social event with dinner and dancing to a live band (which the additional cost for the band was donated by Pat McAndrews). There will be a silent auction which helps raise money for the club. If you wish to donate any items for the auction please contact Yvonne or Shalla. We are still looking for a new or almost new refrigerator for the hall/clubhouse so if you have any information about one please let us know. Happy trails to all... 9 CORRAL CHATTER CHATTER PAGE Page 9 9 Here is a sample of what our CORRAL CHATTER looked like back in July Back then, World War II was raging, FDR was elected to a fourth term, a gallon of gas cost 15 cents, and a new house cost $3,450. Santa Clara Valley was called the Valley of the Heart s Delight, being one of the largest fruit production and packing regions in the world. Ranches spread across hundreds of acres of the valley and surrounding hills. The Santa Clara County Horsemen s Association had been established for only five years, and already their membership numbered 350! The article at right was in the July 1944 issue. Below is a picture of the beautiful Grant Ranch with horses roaming the countryside in 1944.
