NEWS BRAKE LIVINGSTON A S REGION of M.A.R.C. DECEMBER NEXT BUSINESS MEETING-Tuesday, January 17th 2017 at 7:00pm Livingston County EMS Building 1911 Tooley Rd., Howell, MI Park on north side of building opposite the main entrance. Find Howell Auditorium on second floor. ----DIRECTOR S MESSAGE---- It was just Halloween last week and Thanksgiving yesterday, now we are well into the Christmas Season. By the time you read this our club Christmas party will be history is beginning to take shape. I'm confident it will be a good year for club activities. I think it would be a good idea to once again pass around the "List of Suggested Driving Tours" that we developed in 2015, with the hope that some of you would select a destination from the list and plan a driving tour during If you are uncomfortable doing it alone team up with somebody. There are lots of interesting destinations remaining on that list. I get the feeling that we might get greater participation on day tours as opposed to overnight driving tours. Lets work on a better balance between the two during I would hope to see more new faces on the driving tours in As you know, at the November meeting all of the current officers were reelected to serve another year. Many thanks to the Nominating Committee and to the club officers who were willing to serve another year. Thanks also to the Audit Committee. I am happy to report that the Livingston A's seem to be in pretty good shape. Our books are in order. We have money in the bank. There are no pressing By-Law issues. We can look forward to having a fun year. Sandy and I would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year. Thank you, Fred Tryles, Director Livingston A's `1

AUGUST August 25th-26th Model-A Round-Up hosted by the Sparton Horn Chapter of Jackson The following is from the Sparton Horn Chapter promoting next year's Model A Roundup. You are invited to the Michigan Model A Roundup to be held August 25th and 26th 2017 hosted by the Sparton Horn Chapter in Jackson, Michigan. The ever climbing costs associated with any tour are always a concern for everybody involved. The Sparton Horn Tour Committee and its supporting members have taken this to heart for next year's roundup; we are working very hard to keep your costs down while providing as much value in our event as we can possibly pack in. While we believe our welcome party will be one of the very best you have ever attended, the focus of any Roundup is the driving tours and we have selected stops for every interest. Our stops include... A private tour of the Ye Ole Carriage Shop. (assuming someone is there!). A scenic tour to Sandhill Crane Winery for lunch with a wine tasting led by one of their experts, A ride back in time to Amish country, A trip to Jackson's famous Cascade Falls. Another treat is that our event coincides with Jackson's annual Civil War Muster. This event features battle reenactments, living tent encampments, and historians who will take you back to one of our nations most tumultuous periods. There are other attractions we are working on and will include everything in a more comprehensive breakdown of our plans and lodging options to be mailed to surrounding regions at a later date. Mark your calendar for next year's Michigan Model A Roundup and plan to Toot your horn where the Sparton was Born! `3

---A PICTORAL SUMMARY OF THE CHRISTMAS PARTY---- Auctioneer, Fred Tryles, shows just how stylish this cloche hat might look on any of the Livingston A's members. Auctioneer, Vic Caporosso touts the value of a fist full of candles Once again, the Christmas committee did such a fine job with food, decorations, and general organization of the event. Special thanks go out to Cheryl & (Vic) Caporosso, Sherry & (Tom) Wright. Jan Haskin, Jan Cornillaud, Barb Smigels, Bea Thibodeau, Dea Knopf, Bev Points, Kathy Frisinger, Judy Coebly, Carolyn Smith, Karin Guinan, Dan Samson & Carrie and of course, Sandy Tryles. As the dinner portion of the event drew to a close, eyes started wandering toward the table upon which dozens of carefully wrapped presents were placed. Santa stands guard. `5

---A PICTORAL SUMMARY OF THE CHRISTMAS PARTY---- Sandy, Sherry, and Bea have a laugh over something related to size... Paul Frisinger unwraps a container that will lead to a better organized work-bench. All eyes turn to Mary DeLuca as she unwraps some mysterious treasure. Vic looks pleased that this little toolbox will contain just what's needed to overcome just about any road-side repair. `6

---A PICTORAL SUMMARY OF THE CHRISTMAS PARTY---- Dick Weire seems happy to have received a a copy of Rick's Model A Shop Manual. When all of the dust settles following the gift exchange and the eventual theft of certain popular items, it seems that most everyone winds up with just what they need. That was certainly the case for Ken Manninen and his receipt of a certain specially designed grooming kit. And like any good club, when the event was all over, everyone pitched in and helped clean up. `7

---Henry Ford Holiday Recipes---The following two recipes are taken from a book entitled Cooking For Henry (The memories and recipes of chef Jan Willemse, former pastry chef at Dearborn Inn and personal party chef for Henry Ford). Both recipes seems to tie in with the Holiday's rather nicely! Speculaas (St. Nicholas) Cookies 3 c. brown sugar 1c. butter 2 whole eggs ½ c sour milk 3 ½ all purpose flour 1Tbs. ground cinnamon 1tsp. nutmeg 1tsp. baking soda 1tsp. salt 1/2tsp. ground cloves 2 ½ c. sliced almonds (or chopped pecans) Cream sugar and butter for 3 minutes. Add eggs and mix. Scrape bowl and add sour milk. Mix a little. Then add the flour, spices, and nuts. Mix thorougly. Pace mix on floured table. Divid into rolls, each 8 inches long by 1 inch thick. Wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate overnight or longer. When needed, slice into ¼-inch thick slices and bake at 350 degrees fro 8 to 10 minutes. The cookies will spread some. Yields about 4 to 5 dozen cookies. Special Holiday Whipped Potatoes 8 medium-sized potatoes (peeled) 4 oz. Cream cheese ¼ c. cream (or canned milk) ¼ c. butter ½ tsp. Salt 1/8 tsp. Pepper 1 egg white lightly beaten Preheat oven to 350 degrees Boil potatoes until soft. Place them in a mixing bowl and add cream cheese, cream (or canned milk), butter, salt, pepper, and last of all the beaten egg white. Mix and put in a greased 9-inch casserole dish and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes or until nicely browned. Yields 6 to 7 portions. `8
