1 December 2010 Edition Trilogy at Glen Ivy COMMUNITY NEWS Board of Directors General Manager Ken Gibson Assistant General Manager Kim Nelson Landscaping Maintenance Antonia Vizcarra Pacific Crest Lodge Blue Water Sports Club Lifestyle Manager Monica Romero HOA Office Code Comp. Manager Joy Marino The Canyons Grill Landscape Maintenance Maintenance Manager Randy Hess Published by Mel Goldman What is Christmas? Christmas. or Christmas Day. is a holiday observed generally on December 25. to commemorate the birth of Jesus, the central figure of Christianity. The date is not known to be the actual birthday of Jesus, and may have initially been chosen to correspond with either the day exactly nine months after some early Christians believed Jesus had been conceived the date of the winter solstice on the ancient Roman calendar or one of various ancient winter festival Christmas is central to the Christmas and holiday season and in Christianity marks the beginning of the larger season of Christmastide which lasts twelve days. Although nominally a Christian holiday, Christmas is also widely celebrated by many nonchristians. and many of its popular celebratory customs have pre-christian or secular themes and origins. Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift-giving, music, an exchange of greeting cards, church celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various decorations; including Christmas trees, lights, garlands, mistletoe, nativity scenes, and holly. In addition, several similar mythological figures, known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and Santa Claus among other names, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season. Because gift-giving and many other aspects of the Christmas festival involve heightened economic activity among both Christians and nonchristians, the holiday has become a significant event and a key sales period for retailers and businesses. The economic impact of Christmas is a factor that has grown steadily over the past few centuries in many regions of the world. 2 Continued from page 1 What is Hanukkah? Page 2 Hanukkah ( Ḥănukkāh, nowadays usually spelled. pronounced [χanuˈka] in Modern Hebrew, also romanized as Chanukah), also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century, Hanukkah is observed for eight nights, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. The festival is observed by the kindling of the lights of a very special candelabrum, the nine-branched Menorah or Hanukiah, one additional light on each night of the holiday, progressing to eight on the final night. The typical Menorah consists of 9 branches. An extra light called a shamash.is also lit each night for the purpose of lighting the others, and is given a distinct location, usually above or below the rest. The "shamash" symboli-

3 The difference between TGIS and TGMA Page 3 Many residents with in our community new and old are still confused between the relationship between the two separate associations that are involved in many of the community activates. Back in January of 2003 a paper was put out by Action Management then the Management company of Trilogy explaining the difference. Between TGMA and TGIS. Hopefully this will explain the difference between the two Associations. Document given to this Web Site by Claire Johnson. Thank You. WHAT IS THE TRILOGY AT GLEN IVY MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATION? TGMA The easiest way to think of TGMA is as the homeowners association. This association owns or maintains all the front yards & common area landscaping, private streets, gates, clubhouse, tennis courts, walks and related improvement within the residential community. The homeowners association is managed by a board of 5 elected directors from the community who in turn hires a outside management firm such as Merit Prosperity Management company who provides a staff that works for the association which includes a general manager, activities director, maintenance personnel, office staff, etc. None of these people are paid or connected to TGIS. This management company is essentially the business corporation which handles the day to day operation, repair and management of the community. All budgets for repairs to the common area, architectural reviews of landscaping and modifications to residences, enforcement of CC&R s and rules and collection of the monthly assessments are handled by TGMA Each homeowner automatically becomes a member of TGMA when they close escrow on their home and their membership terminates when they sell their home. WHAT IS TRILOGY AT GLEN IVY COMMUNITY SERVICE? TGIS TGIS is not the homeowners association. This corporation has a separate board of directors that control the activities of TGIS.. One way to think of TGIS is as the special activities association. TGIS sponsors or subsidizes many activities to which homeowners attend such bus trips, games, parties such as Halloween and Christmas events, etc. Homeowners do not pay any assessments to TGIS beyond the one time fee paid at closing based upon the purchase price of their home. TGIS consists of 5 elected board members who controls all aspects of this fund just as TGMA controls the fund of the homeowners association. TGIS implements its own budget and activities to ensure that the funds are self-perpetuating at a level that will allow TGIS to function for many years into the future. The homeowners association (TGMA) has no direct involvement in the activities of or control TGIS activities or decisions. SUMMARY Both TGMA and TGIS are California non-profit corporations and as such have to operate within the terms of state and federal statues. As the legal documents for each corporation are quite lengthy, there is no adequate way to fully explain their complexities in this one page news brief. Hopefully this information can at least provide enough information to provide a better understanding of these organizations and how they work. WRITTEN by Action Management Company. January 29, 2003

9 Page 9 Italian Club Italian Club News! What a great year this has been! To cap it off we are looking to our Annual Christmas Party to be held at "Eagle Glen Golf Club" on Friday, December 10th. We will enjoy a sit down prime rib dinner with wine, door prizes and dancing to the music of "The Rhythm Kings". Looking ahead to 2011 we have several great events planned beginning with a St. Patrick's Day party in March hosted by Jim Orr and his committee! We will follow this with an Easter Brunch in April hosted by Karen Gross & Ruthie Eudy. It's time to renew your membership! Dues will remain $12.00 per person and are due no later than January 4, You can drop off or mail your check (no cash please) to Rosemary at your earliest convenience. Library News Have you ever seen a 3-D puzzle? If not, stop by the library to see what is being constructed! It s going to be outstanding when it s done. It is a 3-D jigsaw puzzle of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. When it s complete it will be over 2 feet tall! Does this sound like something you d like to help build? The puzzle is for any and all residents to work on, so take a few minutes to relax at this busy time of the year and enjoy some constructive quiet time! We now have some extra shelving so the overcrowding is dissipating (somewhat). We are creating new categories and adding to the former ones. If you can t find your favorite author where (s)he used to be, take a few minutes to look around. You ll find their works in a different location.anything to get you to spend a few We ve had many new donations and we THANK everyone who is willing to share their treasures. We re weeding the pocketbooks to include books published after l995. When we fill up, we ll probably cut the date off at Interested in hearing a real published author speak? I m hoping to find someone who will be interested in promoting his/her published work(s) to come for an afternoon or evening presentation. If you know someone who might be interested, let me know. Library hours continue to be: M-F 8-5. Hopefully, we ll be able to be open for a few hours on the weekends and on evenings. Happy Reading! Claire Johnson

10 Did you hear or know? The Following statements have been repeated again in this Newsletter. Still waiting for The Board to address these questions. Mad Resident, Want my coffe back Solar Panels at Trilogy The board of Directors is currently working with a contractor who will provide an estimate for installing solar panels. Alternative energy sources are what we as individuals and as a nation need. However during this process we must be judicious when it comes to ultimately funding this project. We should, at the very outset of this project, ask where the funding will come from. If it means mortgaging our reserve fund, we need to think long and hard about this. Consider the implications. If funds are obtained in this manner how will they be paid back? Increase in our monthly fees? How much of an increase and what is the immediate cost savings will we see? I for one encourage everyone to proceed slowly and with great deliberation. Ask yourself this question? Security Patrol Well they are still with us and it is still costing $65,000 a year or $4.11 per home per month. How about printing what great deeds Platt Security has done for us this month, such as arrests, catching people breaking into homes or cars, ticketing cars that are parked illegally or not in their garage like our rules and regulations dictates. Nothing written up except for 35 calls to the Sheriffs office and 95% of those calls have nothing to do with Security at Trilogy. Vending Machines Things do happen around here. Two vending machines have ben installed in the space next to the mail room. Soda, Water, Candy is now available for a small charge. We are still waiting for the free coffee to come back to the Lodge. Security Surveillance Watch out you people who have been stealing our sugar and coffee creamer, according to management the installation of the security surveillance system in the Lodge and Sports Club has been completed.. Slurry Seal The areas (streets) that have been dug up and repaired will be re slurry sealed so they look like they did before the construction. The good news is the cost will be picked up by Shea. Simple question, requires simple answer Yes/No TGIS There has been no movement on Shea turning TGIS over to the new elected TGIS Board as promised. Again Shea has out smarted out Board and Legal team. We had a court date to force Shea to comply with the agreement they made with us. Shea agreed to give us information we were waiting for and our Legal team cancelled the court date. Guess what Shea again backed off and is trying to change the agreement. and we are still left without control of TGIS and a court date. So we now start all over. again Conclusion :Shea and their legal staff is smarter than ours..
