The Board of Directors is prepared to spend an additional $65,000 this year on the Pratt Security Patrol. This brings the total amount spent on this firm to $130,000. Let s be honest with each other. We are not in the best financial shape and this money could be used to maintain our properties. We don t need to borrow from our reserves on a security patrol folly this money can be used to Of recent note is the summary statement on the other website which now covers three months Continued on page 2 President VP President Secretary Treasurer Director Director Harold Wolff Kay Rookhuyzen Marilyn Mohr Bob Abel Ed Carlson Judy Heinze Trilogy newsletter Mel Goldman Committees of Trilogy Design Review Committee Bob Portick Finance Advisor Bob Abel Landscaping Committee Lynn Recuay Neighborhood Watch Jane Snider Emergency Preparedness Jane Snider Rules and Reg Committee Bonnie Reed

Continued from page 1 Page 2 2 of activity rather than a monthly report.. Perhaps there weren t sufficient incidents to justify a monthly report. If this is the case, does it make you wonder? Let s take a look at the last three months of: April-May-June 36 homes Garage Door Open. What did the security firm do? 99 recreational vehicles parked outside of residents. This seems more like a covenant and restriction issue, not security. 12 homes watched ( that breaks down to 4 a month) 110 Street s lights Maintenance- This is a maintenance issue not a security issue Five Suspicious Vehicles -1 3/4 vehicles a month-what did they do? And what did Pratt do? 16 Vacant homes. What is the point of this remark? Vacation Watch. Yup house is still there ask the people who signed up and their house was bypassed Two surveys were conducted in the last year asking the residents if they want or think Pratt Security is worth the money spent and 90% of the people rejected the Security Patrol. Survey was done twice and the Board told of the results. When you mention this at the Board meeting all you get are 5 stares from the Board. It seems that fund can be allocated to a more productive endeavor. It is so easy to settle whether we truly need a Security Patrol. Have the Board take a survey with one question on survey. Do we need to waste another $65,000 this year Yes or No

Page 3 3 Help Avoid Instant Message Viruses Using an instant messaging (IM) program-such as Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger), Windows Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, or others-you and a friend can type messages to each other and see the messages almost immediately. Because IM is so popular, virus writers can use it to spread malicious programs. Understanding instant message viruses Like viruses, instant message viruses are malicious programs that are designed to travel through IM. These viruses are spread, in most cases, when a person opens an infected file that was sent in an instant message that appeared to come from a friend. When you open one of these files, your computer can become infected with a virus. Because of the virus, your computer may slow down or stop responding, or you may not notice any change at all. However, the virus might have installed a covert program on your computer that could damage software, hardware, or important files, and that may include spyware, which can track information entered on the computer. A computer infected by a virus may continue to spread the infection by sending copies of the virus to everyone on your IM contact list, that is, the collection of IM names that you can store in your IM program. Maintain that PC There are things that you can do to keep your PC and your data, in good shape. Here is one of them: Back up your Data every day. If you do not have an external drive, consider buying one and using it to back up your data.

Page 4 The Bucket List..Conclusion 4 Last month I wrote about an upcoming trip to Boston to help fulfill our Bucket List. I ve seen several people lately who have asked about the trip, so I thought I d follow write a follow-up. Without repeating details from last month, I need to mention that we were delivering a bright-red Mustang Convertible to Boston that Mile s brother had won (a Hole-In-One Contest) while playing golf in Salt Lake City. He had since moved to Boston and thus needed his car delivered. We drove our car to Salt Lake City, picked up the convertible and continued East. Our first night from there was in Cheyenne. The weather was perfect and there was little traffic. We had toured the Capital on a previous trip, so the next day we drove through Colorado and ended up in Russell KS. Abilene was our destination for the day and the D.D. Eisenhower Museum and Library. His boyhood home is on the property, filled with the furnishings that he grew up with. It s a great museum with loads of military memorabilia since his main career was in the military. History comes back very quickly when you wander through all the exhibits. Fascinating. From Abilene, we drove though Kansas City, St. Louis, MO. (fun to see the Arch). We drove through Illinois and Indiana and stopped in Columbus, OH. to tour the Capital building which is still functioning as a legislative building, but the basement is a museum housing the history of the state. It s another beautiful building. A few more stops and then a 2 day stay in Gettysburg, PA. We were there over 20 years ago but not much has changed! The battlefields are still there and beautifully preserved. It s a quaint town and very enjoyable. Cooperstown, PA. home of Baseball s Hall of Fame was our next stop. It was fun to see the enjoyment most of the kids and dads were feeling as they found their favorite player or team. At a restaurant in town, the help wore tee shirts that said, Cooperstown, a drinking man s town with a Baseball problem! Hyde Park, NY is the home of FDR s Presidential library, museum and family home. What a wonderful museum that turned out to be. The exhibits are filled with photos of the depression, his enactment of Social Security and the New Deal. His family home is furnished with original furnishings and they are lovely. The view of the Hudson River and the area around it is gorgeous. Boston has many national treasures. We toured John Adams and John Quincy Adams small cabin and their plantation style home and library, along with the JFK Presidential Library and Museum, and his birth home elsewhere in Boston. We rode the T and pretended we were locals! For our finale, we boarded Amtrak in Boston for our relaxing ride home to Salt Lake City. Can t say too much about Amtrak as they really don t worry about their schedules. We had many waits on side rails, freight trains rule! The scenery for the most part was wonderful. We especially enjoyed the scenery from Denver west. The Dining car is enjoyable and the food was good. The Observation car is really enjoyable, although they don t have enough seats for everyone, so you re reminded to move on so others can enjoy. All in all we had about 11 hours of extra train time, because of the constant delays. His brother was happy to see us and his car (with NO scratches) and we were happy to have had the opportunity to make the trip and check off a few more items on our Bucket List. Now, let s see..what s next? By Claire Johnson

Page 5 5 Hi from your Officers with the Trilogy Latin Club! WOW this is an exciting year with the Trilogy Latin Club! THIS PAST AUGUST 10 TH there were 30 of us who were ALL ABOARD the train for a really fun journey to San Juan Capistrano. We spent the day strolling though historic San Juan (two of the adobe houses in the Los Rios Historic District date to the 1700s), we toured the mission with a knowledgeable tour guide who explained the history of the mission and the surrounding area, we purchased a few small antiques of interest, and, yes, we ate till we could hardly walk. Many of us ended our day with a tasty ice cream cone before we all boarded the train for home. ON SEPTEMBER 17th we have a SOLD OUT event: A Night on the Beach with Frankie, Annette and the Beach Boys. We will enjoy our potluck feast (yum! I can hardly wait) as we listen to the oldie beach tunes of the 50 s and 60 s as selected by our participants and by DJ Ray Diaz, Jr. We will do some dancing, play a game and have several drawings throughout the evening for fun prizes. See you there!

Page 6 6 Bob s Corner Recently I had the opportunity to meet with Board Members, Merit and the appointed Treasurer concerning the accuracy and integrity of the TGMA Master Reserve Study, Fiscal year A prior letter detailed what I felt were some shortcomings for them to answer. I presented an idea of another system to augment the existing one that perhaps they could use to improve the accuracy and was not met with enthusiasm to say the least. I related to them that using the constant of 2% since 2001 was erroneous and the average of 3% inflation rate should be used, as it is the average of the last 80 years, as reported by the Department of Labor Statistics. Additionally the BOD continues not to follow the requested monthly rate increases to the Reserve Fund from the Operating Fund provided by our paid Consultant to achieve a higher percentage of funding in the Reserve. Needles to say this was read as indifference and was told that perhaps my efforts might be used in a more beneficial manner. One Director asked in addition to not spending money on the Security Patrol, what other areas do you think we should reduce? The answer was It s up to the Board to decide, Asked again and I said perhaps there should be a reduction in the cost of Administration by Merit. I related to them that as a young Engineer I was forced to take over the responsibilities of two other Engineers that retired due to a reduction in the Engineering Budget. My Manager didn t care how I was to do it, but just do it! When people are forced to be more efficient they will find the way to do it! The response was you can t compare that to the Association Really! The Association is a Corporation just like the one I just related. I said that Bruce Hosfeld campaigned that when he left his association as Treasurer it was 100% funded Reserve. The answer was you can t compare that small community to us, we are much larger and have more amenities. Is that the same as I m larger and can t fail, I ll just increase the monthly assessment on each residence?, rather than be more efficient and spend less!. As always, I say it like it is for the betterment of all our members in this fine community. Bob C Copy of Reserve study is available at the association office. Interesting reading.

At the August HOA meeting the Board decided to expand the Library hours of operation. The new hours are: Thursday 9am until 9pm and on Saturdays from 10-2pm. You will need your 'proxy' card for entry, and there may or may not be a helper there during those hours. The Library remains open every work day from 9-5. Hopefully these hours will allow our 'non-retirees' some time to enjoy the Library. That's all for now... Marion, Madame Librarian. (aka Claire Johnson) Page 7 7 Wednesday Sept 14 By the Pool

Page 8 8 MISSION INN SEEKS NEW TOUR GUIDES People who enjoy learning about local history, interacting with others from all over the world, and are fascinated by the Mission Inn are encouraged to enroll in the Mission Inn Docent Training Program for volunteer docents. The class begins in mid September and meets at the Inn on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 P.M. Graduation will be in May 2012 after which newly-minted docents are asked to lead or assist in four 75-minute tours each month for two years. The Mission Inn Foundation and Museum offer the course which is patterned after the Los Angeles County Museum training and consists of lectures, videos, hotel tours, and discussions. Topics include the history of the Mission Inn beginning in 1875 along with the history of Riverside and Southern California. Also presented will be the art, artifacts, and architecture of the Mission Inn and other interesting background information explaining the road to Riverside s premiere hotel becoming a National Historic Landmark. 13 Page Dear Members and Residents, Here we are with September upon us - summer is mostly gone! Not really anything new to report but just wanted to take a moment to reflect and thank all the old members who have been with us since the start of the Club and the many, many new members who continue to give life and energy to Trilogy on the Roof. With your enthusiasm, support and creativity our Club continues to thrive. We are most fortunate to find ourselves living here where we can continue to learn and grow from one another's life experiences and have fun along the way. Our September 24th event, New York, New York will soon become a reality after many months of planning. The food reminiscent of New York will be plentiful, our "Broadway"entertainment amazing and varied with a shopping spree thrown in to boot (New York style). While we are currently SOLD OUT, should you still want an opportunity to attend, please let me know as we do have a Wait List. There are usually last minute cancellations, so do not delay and sign up now. Corny as it sounds, I look back with pride at our accomplishments and look ahead with great anticipation. Sandy Rubin president of Trilogy on the Roof

Page Labor Day is a national legal holiday that is over 100 years old. Over the years, it has evolved from a purely labor union celebration into a general "last fling of summer" festival. It grew out of a celebration and parade in honor of the working class by the Knights of Labor in 1882 in New York. In 1884, the Knights held a large parade in New York City celebrating the working class. The parade was held on the first Monday in September. The Knights passed a resolution to hold all future parades on the same day, designated by them as Labor Day. The Socialist Party held a similar celebration of the working class on May 1. This date eventually became known as May Day, and was celebrated by Socialists and Communists in commemoration of the working man. In the U.S., the first Monday in September was selected to reject any identification with Communism. In the late 1880's, labor organizations began to lobby various state legislatures for recognition of Labor Day as an official state holiday. The first states to declare it a state holiday in, 1887, were Oregon, Colorado, New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. Then in 1894, Congress passed a law recognizing Labor Day as an official national holiday. Today, Labor Day is observed not only in the U.S. but also in Canada, and in other industrialized nations. While it is a general holiday in the United States, its roots in the working class remain clearer in European countries. It has come to be recognized in the U.S. not only as a celebration of the working class, but even more so as the unofficial end of the summer season. In the northern half of the U.S. at least, the summer vacation season begins with Memorial Day and ends with Labor Day. Many colleges and some secondary and elementary schools begin classes immediately after Labor Day. State parks, swimming pools, and campgrounds are all quite busy on Labor Day, as vacationers take one last advantage of the waning hot season. September is the month that marks the beginning of autumn. And, because of that, the average daytime maximum temperatures take a plunge during the month in most of the U.S.
