Very busy and enjoyable times we have had many thanks to Geoff and his helpers for another outstanding prime rib dinner. It was superb as always and enjoyed by a good crowd on a beautiful Corinthian evening. We welcomed Jim Godey from Dennis Point as our newest member during dinner. Beautiful is not how one would describe the weather on the following weekend unless you are a meteorologist. Nature put on a good show with Sandy, and I am happy to report that the Club and fleet fared well with minimal damage. Of course, we were fortunate that Sandy made land fall north of our Bay so our storm surge was minimal. We did get some pretty high winds out of the West. Point Lookout recorded gusts over 70mph.topping out at 74mph Monday evening and blew around 50mph most of the day and night. But fortunate we were as evidenced by the pictures coming back from the Jersey and New York shores. Just prior to the storm s arrival on Saturday we tackled the A Dock tee deck and were able to get it replaced thanks to Geoff and Ray s craftsmanship several us performed support ripping up the old boards, hauling them off, and bringing in new ones. Got it all cleaned up and tied down before the storm arrived but ran out of gas before we could get to B Dock. Paula will provide the date for when we will get B Dock done. We experienced no major injuries but there was substantial self-medication for soreness Saturday evening. At the membership meeting I announced that we have selected Randy s Pier and Seawall to replace the seawall off C Point. Good thing as we lost some more of the old seawall and shore front from the storm which blew very hard out of the West for many hours. Randy s Seawall was the low bidder, almost $10K below our planning estimate, and was highly recommended by previous customers. We hope to have the project done before the end of the year many thanks to Darrell for keeping this project on track. John Carey has the Club WiFi working well with access to all of the property. We have pushed the available technology about as far as we can. The network is based on Verizon DSL which has limited bandwidth so there will be times that it will be slow due to excess demand. Should be fine for and such but will bog down if you are streaming video. We have investigated other options such as Metrocast Cable and Hughes Sat Net which don t appear to be affordable at this time. For now the best option for high bandwidth TV is individual subscriptions for Direct TV. Most docks have dishes and I am told you can bring your receiver from home on another location. We can help with running cable. We continue to emphasize increasing membership and need all of your help to get the word out on Corinthian and bring potential members to club events or to enjoy our facilities and pristine waters. I have formed a small committee of Dolores, Jim Quince, John Carey, Jim Godey and me to focus on membership in the coming year. If you have ideas please let us know and help us if we ask for it. Next year is also our 110 th anniversary which we intend to emphasize in our marketing campaign. We are also looking for help with 110 th activities. Let me know if you are interested. We are now over $26,000 in contributions and pledges to the Commodore s Capital Fund many thanks to those of you who have answered the call. See you all at our Oyster feast. 2 CYC Membership Meeting November 10:30 a.m. Oyster Roast - see Flyer Ridge, MD RSVP NOV. 2 nd!! CYC Events O Around the Grounds ctober 27 th 2012, was a Corinthian Work Day starting at 8 a.m. Sat. There was lots to do, the old dock had to be removed, new boards had to be moved down to the T dock, and the old boards had to be removed from the work area. Geoff Baumann, Jim Estep, Dick Houchen, Ray Mercure, Charles O Brien, Pat Shier, Jim Tapp, Dick Teachout, Bob Tolle, Earl Waesche, and Ron Walters worked together and got the job done. The new A dock was completed by 4 PM. Great Job Thanks. The crew took a lunch break, around 1 P.M. and then at 6 PM, Kathy Houchen prepared a delicious dinner. Thanks, Kathy. The next work day is Nov. 17 th, starting at 9 A.M. to replace the T on B dock. Join us many hands make light work. As you can imagine, I have a list of repairs caused by Sandy, and learned a lot about preparing for a storm, e.g., make sure the upstairs door is locked, cover the A/C s cause rain blows in, and make sure all the windows are completely closed. It was very helpful to have Paul Altman, Geoff. Baumann, and Dick Teachout on the property during the storm. We all Thank You. Chef Geoff and friends provided us with an exquisite evening of dining, featuring my personal favorite of Prime Rib. The food was excellent and enjoyed by all that attended, topped off by a wonderful evening of professional entertainment on the keyboard provided by our own John Wittman. Chuck O Brien won the 50/50 and donated his 50% to the clean-up crew. The number of attendee s was down compared to other events this year (about 54) but a pleasant and enjoyable affair that included a successful auction. Many thanks to all that made this a fine evening. Our next event is the annual oyster roast and dinner; get your reservations in early. RSVP date is Nov. 2 nd. December 1 st is our Christmas Party, a British Jubilee Christmas Luncheon. Also, a reminder that January 19 th is the Change of Watch I look forward to seeing you all, until then be safe. Voting occurs at the Christmas Holiday party. Once this slate is formally presented, floor nominations can be made, but otherwise, no additional nominations will be accepted after November 10 th. Other than requests for temporary winter dockage, there have been no other requests. It s that time of year and you should be thinking about your winterizing. And, a last chance to wash the boat as the dock water is generally turned off by the end of November. Although a fresh oil change and wax on the boat is good to do, at a minimum, for

4 the safety of your boat, be sure to close your seacocks for the winter and be sure you have a good battery and operating bilge pump. I know most of you can t conveniently get down over the winter but I still do every two or three days and I walk the docks. If there is something in particular that you d like me to keep an eye on then just let me know. Most members insurance company already send a copy of their liability policy to CYC. In general, once you ask, it s automatic from there. If in doubt, check with me and I ll verify we have it on hand. Or, just provide me a copy of the binder page at your convenience.
