1 YACHT TALK January 2014 Clover Island Yacht Club Kennewick, Washington From the Helm Board of Directors Commodore Dan Bunn Vice Larry Kuga Commodore The Cruise and Entertainment Meeting was held on Saturday, January 11th with some great events planned. This year we have also include the Richland Yacht Club events so CIYC can also attend their functions. I am looking forward to a great year filled with fun activities. Secretary Jolene Grimes Entertainment Jim Sarpolus The Commodore s Ball was a well attended event and the food and entertainment was excellent. Thanks Greg and Suzie for putting on a spectacular event. The Building and Mark Cope Christmas lighted boat parade was lightly attended, but Grounds we still had great decorations. Looking forward to seeing what is in store for next year. Be sure to check out Docks Past Commodore Roy Jeffrey Greg Hammer the website at to see this years video of the parade. Thanks to Kuga s and Grimes s for putting on a great show. The New Year s Eve Party was a very well attended event. It was great to bring in the new year with such great members. Thanks to everyone that helped put this on. The appetizers and entertainment, (Dave Michels Dirty River Blues Band) were excellent. I look forward to the crab feed on January 18th, the Seattle Boat Show on January 25th and the Super Bowl Party on February 2nd. The Port has completed the plans for our new storage building and have sent them out for bid. Larry Kuga is working on the revisions to the Bylaws and would like to bring the changes to the membership for approval at the next General Membership Meeting so please plan on attending. As a reminder be sure to check your heaters in your boats. It was determined that the boat that sank at the Port had a heater that turned off and froze the pipes. Be sure to check that the gate on the dock closes. In this cold weather it doesn t work as well. With the new year brings renewal of insurances. Please be sure to get your insurance policies for your boat and/or boathouse to the club so we can keep them on record. Membership dues have been mailed out along with a new contact information forms. Please be sure to fill this out so we have the most current information. I would like to thank everyone that helped sell the slips in covered moorage. They have all been sold. We now have just 5 uncovered slips for rent. Happy Boating Dan

2 January 2014 New Member Please welcome new member, Craig Keller, voted in at the January 2014 General Membership meeting.

3 Members are responsible for security around the club, if you see anyone you don t recognize, introduce yourself and find out who they are. Do not loan out your keys to anyone, guests are allowed on the docks only when you are present, you are responsible for your guests. If the dumpster is full, DO NOT stack garbage in front of the dumpster, the garbage driver will not move it and it just gets spread all around the dumpster area creating a big mess. If you find the dumpster is full please take your trash to the dumpster near the boat ramp. Please keep your dogs on a leash at all times around the club and on the docks. Also please clean up after your pet! Please use the metal, heavy duty dock carts (located in the haul out) for any construction materials or debris. The fiberglass and plastic dock carts are not meant for the heavy construction use. Please clean out any debris from the carts after you use them. Remember to return the carts to the top of the ramp immediately after using them. Photo courtesy of Wendy McCue
