Now we just need to get out there and see them. The cruise on Saturday to the Gun Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma will be a good chance to check out the leaves. It won t be long before we start seeing colder temps and maybe even snow so let s get out those Vettes and go for a ride! Organize a cruise to a location you love! After several months without a single new car, at last week s meeting we had four new cars announced. Congratulations to the owners of the new cars and to our new members and new Corvette owners, Tony & Leina Nguyen. We had a great time at Corvette Weekend in Eureka Springs. We had good attendance from our club and it was fun getting together with members of Hawg Country Corvette Club. Thanks to Randy Imbeau and the others who took over cooking the hog when we couldn t get over there until Friday evening. The pork and everything else was excellent! Thanks to all who helped move cars for the autocross event at Everett Chevrolet on Thursday and to those who helped with line-up for the Parade of Champions Saturday evening. Congratulations to Deb Cook and Richard Dorsey on winning awards in the autocross and to Johnny Bakker, the Dorseys and Teddy and Pat Holcomb on winning awards at the car show. Be sure to come to the November meeting when we will be voting for the two charities that will benefit from our 2015 car show proceeds. We will also be deciding on the amount this year s charities will receive. Thank you to everyone who asked about Sharon when she was hospitalized. After surgery, she s finally feeling better. Davis Arms and Historical Museum Claremore, Oklahoma Kevin Cornell will lead a cruise to the Gun Museum where we will see the largest private gun collection in the world with more than 50,000 items to see.saddles, spurs, local ranching brands, German beer steins, World War I posters, military weapons, John Rogers statuary, Native American artifacts something for everyone. In fact, this place is loaded! Details will be sent out by closer to the date. We will have a short business meeting to elect 2015 officers and there will be a dirty Santa gift exchange (each person who wants to participate should bring a gift valued at around $20 for a man, a woman, or either). We will present our 2014 charities with checks from the proceeds of our car show. There will be no cost for members to attend the party, but if you sign up to go and then fail to show, you will have to pay for your meal. There will be an after-party in the Presidential Suite. If you would like a room so you don t have to drive home after the party, the Holiday inn has a special price of $69 for NWACC members Car Shows Ozarks Chapter Arkansas Council for the Blind Car & Bike Show - October 25, 2014, on the former Sam s Club parking lot, 2008 S. Thompson St., Springdale, Arkansas. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. show is from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Cars $15; Bikes $ % of proceeds stay in Northwest Arkansas. Final 2014 Cruise-In Cruise In at Bob Evans - October 25, 4200 West Walnut, Rogers, Arkansas. Cruise In for all Bikes, Cars, SUV, and Trucks at Bob Evans in Rogers, Arkansas. This is the last event for this year. Invite your Bike/Car/Truck Club families and show off your ride and eat some amazing food. 3 Nominated Charities Habitat for Humanity Benton County was nominated by Charlie Heidelberg. Executive Director Debbie Wieneke told our members they partner with a family in need to build them a home in 10 to 12 weeks. Their goal is to break the cycle of poverty. There are 180 families living in their homes. If they are selected it will go toward a home they are just starting for a single mother with a four year old. They offer a 0% loan. Families must pay principal and other costs including $600 in closing costs. Also, if they receive a tax refund, that money goes to help pay down the loan. In the last 13 years four families have paid off their homes and they have had only two foreclosures. They are also required to put in 400 hours of sweat equity in their home or another home. Police Special Olympics is David Hyden s nomination. They were represented by police officer Lori Whillock and area director Donna Kilmer. They talked about the history of Special Olympics which was started in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver at her home. Their law enforcement torch run is the world s largest million individuals with development disabilities benefit from the efforts of the organization. Run mostly by volunteers, they have raised more than $50 million to pay costs of training, transportation, and expenses for Special Olympians. These children and adults with developmental disabilities compete in one of 15 sports at the local, district and national levels. They serve 40,000 athletes in Arkansas and 9,000 in Northwest Arkansas. Chase Family Foundation was represented by Susan Chase and John Bakker. Nominated by Gwen Adams, this small local charity helps homebound senior citizens in need who qualify for Meals on Wheels. All of their money is spent in the local area and they are entirely volunteer run. The Chase Foundation provides essential supplies such as toilet paper, food when Meals on Wheels is not operating. Last Christmas they gave large bags of supplies to 71 homebound seniors. They also provide transportation for seniors to medical appointments, grocery store, etc. John told about a n 83 year old woman who lived in a trailer home. She had lost her husband and then her home just three weeks before they came with a Christmas bag for her. She was waiting to open her bag on Christmas so she would have something to open. Bella Vista Animal Shelter - Bobbi Heidelberg nominated the Bella Vista Animal Shelter. Their executive director Dee Dee Matney told the members they have picked up more than 900 stray dogs and cats in Bella Vista. They currently euthanize only 5% of their animals. They transport many to other states. Ninetyone of the pets went to rescue and the rest were adopted out. They have returned more than 300 pets to owners. They have a $305,000 annual budget. Bella Vista pays them $100 per dog and $50 per cat they care for. The balance comes from donations, grants, etc. The animals need year-round care - even on holidays and weekends. They also provide spay/neuter education. If they are selected, they will use the money to update their laundry area and put roll bars on their fences to keep animals in the yard. Northwest Arkansas Women s Shelter was nominated by Steve and Lynn Patton who have worked with the shelter for the past year. Eva Loren, the shelter s development director said they run an emergency domestic violence shelter for all of Northwest Arkansas. They help a anyone wanting to escape violence. They provide for all the sheltered individuals physical needs, advocacy, etc. which costs $58 per day. Ten per cent of the cost is paid by the government and the community provides the rest of their support. Last year they sheltered 629 adults and children. Elizabeth Richardson Center - Jeff Hunter told about the doctor s dismal prognosis when Allyson was a baby diagnosed with spinal muscualar atrophy. They were told most children died by age 12. Staff at the Elizabeth Richardson Center said, Forget what the neurologists say. We see miracles every day. With the help of ERC, Allyson was able to thrive, graduate college, and lived long past the initial expectation. ERC representative Lynn Keller told the they have five child development centers in area towns providing physical, occupational and speech therapy for children with development disabilities. They place adults in jobs and provide job coaches. They teach job skills to high school age students. Last year they served more than 600 individuals. If they receive our club s help, they want to renovate a new location in Springdale and put in a playground which, because it is for children with developmental disabilities, is very expensive. We will vote at the November meeting to select the two charities which we will support with proceeds from our 2015 car show.

4 Meeting Minutes ~ Linda Slothower MINUTES Northwest Arkansas Corvette Club October 6, 2014 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Jeff Hunter. New cars were announced: Brad Cunningham - night race blue 2014 ZS-1 Gordon and Linda Slothower Z51 coupe, black with brownstone interior Greg Sanders Z51 shark gray Tony & Leina Nguyen GS, cyber grey The Nguyens were also recognized as new members. Jon Simmonds with Chevrolet of Fayetteville announced they have several new Corvettes in stock at the dealership. He told that available options with the 2015 Corvette are a camera that videos you as you are driving; Ceri eyes free; and a wi-fi hot spot. 5 New Business continued from previous page Linda Slothower discussed window clings with our club logo. Cost today would be $2.35 each for 100 or more. Richard Peak moved to purchase 200 upon final approval in November. Motion seconded. Each member would get one cling and could purchase additional clings at cost. Motion carried to vote in November for final approval.. Dues will be due in January. Richard Peak suggested dues be increased. He said dues had been $30 for at least 10 years and made a motion to raise them to $35 for 2015 since we now pay for Christmas dinners for each member and their guest. The amount in the club treasury was questioned. Motion was seconded and passed. We have been asked to provide convertible Corvettes for the University of Arkansas homecoming parade October 24 with line-up at 6:00 on the east end of Dixon Street. It was suggested drivers take a blanket to cover cars where students will sit. We have also been asked to provide cars for the Siloam Springs homecoming parade. Linda Slothower will send an with all details of both parades. Minutes of the September meeting were approved. Treasurer s report by Joanna Peak was approved. Cruises: David Forbes announced a cruise to Ozark, Missouri, just south of Springfield, to eat at Lambert s Cafe on Sunday, October 12. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at Iberia Bank at the intersection of Hwy 94 and 62 in Rogers. Lambert s is famous for their throwed rolls. Kevin Cornell will lead a cruise to JM Davis Gun Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma on Saturday, October 18. We will meet at the mall at the corner of Hwy 412 and I-49. Linda Slothower will send out details by . President Jeff mentioned that fall colors would be getting good soon - maybe by the 18th. Birthdays and anniversaries were recognized. Car shows attended Bikes Blues and BBQ car show - Jim and Karen MicMillen won two trophies. Brenda Murphy won 2nd in class. Richard and Angie Dorsey won third in class. Eureka Springs Several members participated in autocross. Richard Dorsey and Deb Cook won autocross awards. Many went to dinner at Gaston s Cabin on Thursday. About people attended the Friday night cookout Thank you to Randy Imbeau and others for cooking then and for making lunch and dinner on Saturday. We had good participation to help line up cars for the parade of champions Saturday night. Dorseys and John Bakker won awards at the car show. Funfest in Effingham - several members attended. They claim 15,000 Corvettes are there. Almost 700 Corvettes went on the 8 mile cruise. Richard Dorsey suggested all Corvette owners should attend. They sell all the stuff MidAmerica Motorworks sells. They saw a new ZO6 race car. Kevin and Lisa Merrill won the Celebrities Choice award. It was also mentioned that Brenda Murphy got an award from the State Police. Congratulations! 50/50 Pot - Rich Sorenson won $61. Auction - a metal briefcase holding several bottles of beer that was donated by Why Not Liquor Store was auctioned. Lynn Patton won the bid for $65. Everett Chevrolet was supposed to have given $500 to anyone who won a major award at our car show if they bought their car from Everett. The guy who told Richard Peak they would do this was on vacation for several weeks and no one else knew about the offer. Richard will go back to check on it. Someone gave $50,000 over sticker price for the first Z06 sold by Everett Chevrolet. Door prizes were won by Birgit Nauert, Steve Patton, Marla Thornton, Pat Zander, Sharon Hunter, Barb Sorenson, Richard Peak, Randy Imbeau, and Greg Sanders. Business card prize was won by Sharon Hunter with 4 handed out. This Thursday dinner out will be at Victoria s Bistro in downtown Rogers at 6:30 p.m. the restaurant is located on Walnut Street between 1st and 2nd. Linda Slothower will details.
