1 Northwest Arkansas Corvette Club P.O. Box 1064, Rogers, Arkansas Corvette Times April, 2014 Newsletter Editors: Linda and Gordon Slothower Newsletter deadline: Pictures, articles, items for sale must be to the editor by noon on Wednesday after the monthly meeting. President Jeff Hunter Vice-President Richard Nauert Club Officers Secretary Linda Slothower Treasurer Joanna Peak President s Corner ~ Jeff Hunter Dear Corvetters, Thanks to Richard Nauert for leading the meeting on Monday. Finally it seems like spring weather has arrived well at least until next week. We sure had a good group go on the cruise to Fort Smith a couple weeks ago. Employees at Mac-A-Doodles and a couple other stops on our drive were out taking pictures of all our beautiful Corvettes. It was a nice day and, other than Richard and Joanna Peak losing part of their muffler, I think everyone had a good time. Seventeen people went to Monte Ne for dinner in March. This month s second Thursday get-together will be at Las Palmas restaurant in Rogers on the 10th at 7:00. Thanks to Richard and Birgit Nauert for planning this outing. Please make suggestions if you have ideas for a cruise or dinner out with the club. We are making good progress on planning the car show. Thanks to everyone who has been working on it. I think 2014 will be our best show ever. On Saturday, May 24, Memorial Day weekend, Sharon and I hope you will plan to come out to our place on Beaver Lake. Last year we had quite a few people there and everyone seemed to have a good time. Randy Imbeau and I will be making Cuban pork in my special hog smoker. The cost for the meat will be around $15 a couple and we ask that you each bring a side dish and your choice of adult beverages. If it sounds like we mostly just drive and eat, well, that s about right. Happy driving everyone! Jeff

Club By-Laws - Proposed Update At the February 10, 2014 regular business meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Corvette Club an oversight committee was formed and approved. One of the functions of the committee is the annual review the club s by-laws. An extensive review of the by-laws will be conducted. In the interim the committee is proposing some minor housekeeping. The last page of the by-laws contains item numbers 2 and 3. There is no title for the items. The committee recommends that these two items be deleted from the by-laws. Additionally the committee proposed to add: ARTICLE XI CLUB EXPENDITURES 1. Motions by club members may be made at any business meeting as outlined in Article III of these by-laws for any expenditure of club funds in the amount of $100 or less. Majority vote of club members in attendance will carry the fate of the motion. 2. All other motions for expenditure of club funds shall be made and published in the minutes of newsletter for the month the motion is made. A second of the motion is then required with time allowed for discussion. After discussion the motion is tabled until the next business meeting. Stingray School Maximizes Chevrolet Driving Experience Chevrolet offers discounts on Ron Fellows driving course for new Corvette owners PAHRUMP, Nevada - Chevrolet is helping owners get the most from their new Corvette Stingray through the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School. A two-day program is available to new 2014 Corvette Stingray owners for $1,000 - a $1,500 reduction from the standard rate. Developed and managed by legendary Corvette racer Ron Fellows, the performance driving curriculum is designed to accommodate drivers of all skill levels and is held at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club, in Pahrump, Nevada. We designed the Corvette Stingray to make its owners better drivers through technologies such as the Driver Mode Selector, Active Rev Match, electronic limited-slip differential and more, said Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer global Chevrolet. Through the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School, they ll learn to optimize those technologies to delve deeper into the Corvette s capabilities, resulting in a more exciting and fulfilling driving experience. The discount from Chevrolet is good for one year from the retail purchase of a new Corvette Stingray and is applicable only to the original owner - and only one attendee per vehicle is eligible for the discount. Attendees are responsible for travel and accommodation costs. For complete details on the program, visit the Corvette Owners Information Page where you can register online for classes. Owners do not have to bring their personal Stingray to Nevada. The school uses a fleet of Corvette Stingrays for instruction, and the program includes a 1-night stay in a track-side luxury condominium. Participants also have full access to Club Spring Mountain amenities. We are proud to be the official high-performance driving school for Chevrolet and the Corvette Stingray, said Ron Fellows. Our goal is to ensure every driver leaves with enhanced driving skills, more confidence on the street and track, and, most of all, a deeper understanding of his or her Corvette s capabilities and how to safely enjoy the car to its fullest. Along with class instruction, participants will spend extensive time driving the Stingray on Spring Mountain s world-class road course. Three levels of instruction are offered, covering novice track drivers to those with more experience. It s more than simply going fast and learning when to turn and apply the throttle, says Fellows. Mind speed and decision making are key elements in the high performance world and our car control exercises and ontrack training will help drivers to improve their ability to process information quickly and accurately, resulting in a better coordination of eyes, hands, and feet to improve their driving skill. It s great fun - and drivers will definitely challenge their limits to find the Corvettes.
5 Meeting Minutes ~ Linda Slothower MINUTES Northwest Arkansas Corvette Club April 7, 2014 The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by Vice President Richard Nauert who filled in for President Jeff Hunter. Treasurer Joanna Peak reported a balance of $10, in treasury at end of the month. The treasurer s report was approved. Minutes from the last meeting were approved. New Business Jack Lovin encouraged members to attend Hot Springs Weekend the first weekend in May. A lot of our members go and we have lots of camaraderie. We stay at Embassy Suites. The show is inside the convention center attached to the Austin Hotel. It starts Friday evening, goes through Saturday, and we come home on Sunday. Jack will lead a group going down on Thursday. We will leave from the Guesthouse Hotel near the intersection of Martin Luther King Blvd. and I-540 in Fayetteville at 11:00 a.m. The group will eat at CJ S Butcher Boy Burgers in Russleville on the way down and at Porterhouse Steak House Friday night about 7:30. Embassy Suites has free breakfast plus free drinks for two hours each evening. Richard Nauert will lead a group going down on Friday. Sharon Hunter reported on the cruise March 30. A group of 13 cars met at Mac-A-Doodles, then went south to Ft. Smith via Hwy 71. Some of the group stopped at Lake Ft. Smith on the way home. Everyone was just ready to get out and go somewhere, and we had a lot of fun. Richard encouraged anyone to organize a cruise. Anyone can put on by anyone at any time. Take pictures so we can show them at our meetings. New Members - Phil and Carolyn Sears have a 1999 pewter silver rag top. They had a 1972 in the 80 s. They used to be motorcyclists. Darlene & Tom Hatfield were also introduced. They have a 2012 white GS. Car Shows - Jim McMillen reported that the car shows about which he has received information are the same as reported in the March newsletter. David Adams told the group about the Adams Detail Clinic at Everett Chevrolet on April 26. They asked that anyone who plans to attend to rsvp on the ramjet web site. Old Business Richard Peak told the group about changes suggested by the oversight committee to the club s by-laws: Motions may be made by club members at any meeting. If the expenditure request is for less than $100, the suggested change would allow a majority vote at the same meeting will determine if the motion is carried or denied. For amounts over $100, the motion would be proposed one month. At the next meeting, motion is reread and the majority attending that meeting will decide. The committee will re-write this section of the by-laws which will be published in the newsletter this month, then the members will vote at next month s meeting. New member packets were handed out to a few new members. Birthdays and anniversaries for April were recognized. Jeff Hunter had suggested that whoever hands out the most business cards for the month (on the honor system) receives a prize. They will receive a prize. If you see a Corvette that doesn t belong to the club, give them a card. Our new cards have information on our car show on the back. Birgit Nauert reported that 17 people went to Monte Ne Chicken on March 13. Every second Thursday of the month we will have an outing or event. This Thursday at 7:00 p.m. we will go to Las Palmas in downtown Rogers on 2nd Street and Poplar for dinner. Jeff and Sharon Hunter will host Vettes at Eden s Bluff on Saturday May 24 (Memorial Day Weekend). You are invited to arrive at 4:00 p.m. We will eat at 5:00. Jeff Hunter and Randy Imbeau will prepare Cuban style pork in Jeff s smoker. They ask that everyone bring side dishes. We will have a sign-up sheet at the next meeting. The cost will be approximately $15 per couple. Continued on next page

Gordon Slothower mentioned that Chevrolet s latest incentive to buy a new Corvette is $1,000 off Spring Mountain Corvette Driving School for one year from date of purchase. Learn how to drive. Located just west of Las Vegas, the package includes a one night stay at their condo. If you go to a car show, please take our flyer with you to distribute. Randy Imbeau won 50/50 for $45.
