May 26 Memorial Day Consult the Chapter Calendar for latest info. Beware: Three men from Texas were sitting together one day bragging about how they had given their new wives duties. The first man had married a woman from Illinois and had told her that she was going to have to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away. The second man had married a woman from Michigan. He had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table. The third man had married a girl from Iowa. He told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot food on the table for ever y meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything, but by the third day some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little bit out of his left eye, enough to fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher.

She was seen by one of the new doctors, but after about 4 minutes in the examination room, she burst out, screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped and asked her what the problem was, and she explained. He had her sit down and relax in another room. The older doctor marched back to the first and demanded, "What's the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?" The new doctor smiled smugly as he continued to write on his clipboard. "Cured her hiccups though, didn't it?"

Safety Educator A WORD FROM CAPTAIN SAFETY.. OPTIMISTIC THAT S WHAT I FELT WHEN I WAS RIDING DRAG FOR A GROUP GOING TO A RALLY OVER IN APOPKA ON SAT. THE GROUP CONSISTED OF THREE TRIKES, AN 1800, A SCOOTER AND A VALKARIE. I WAS HAPPY TO SEE HOW WELL WE TRAV- ELED AS A GROUP. BILL LED THE RIDE. HE KEPT IN COMMUNICATION AND KEPT US ON TRACK WITH HIS GPS. DEBBIE STORY HAD TWO TRIKES IN FRONT OF HER SO IT WAS HARD TELLING WHICH TRACK TO RIDE IN BUT SHE FIGURED IT OUT AND RODE VERY WELL. THEN DEBBIE GOT STOPPED AT A LIGHT WITH WAYNE AND ME BEHIND HER. WHEN WE TOOK OFF FROM THE LIGHT, WAYNE ( WHO HAS TAKEN THE ROAD CAPTAINS COURSE) TOOK THE LEAD UNTIL WE CAUGHT BACK UP TO THE REST OF THE GROUP. IT ALL HAPPENED WITH GOOD GROUP RIDING SKILLS LEARNED THROUGH EDUCA- TION AND WITH EXPIERENCED RIDERS. IT WAS A VERY COMFORTABLE AND SAFE RIDE. He stepped out for a smoke, only to realize he'd lost his cigarettes. In the middle of the room, under the carpet, was a bump. ''No sense pulling up the entire floor for one pack of smokes,'' he said to himself. He proceeded to get out his hammer and flattened the hump. As he was cleaning up, the lady came in. ''Here,'' she said, handling him his pack of cigarettes. ''I found them in the hallway.'' ''Now,'' she said, ''if only I could find my parakeet.'' Rednecks Drinking & Driving One day, two rednecks named Bubba and Earl were driving down the road, drinking a couple of Buds. The passenger, Bubba, said "Lookey thar up ahead Earl, it's a po-leece roadblock! We're gonna get busted fer drinkin' these here beers!" "Don't worry Bubba," Earl said. "We'll just pull over and finish drinkin' these beers, peel off the label and stick it on our foreheads, then throw the bottles under the seat." "What fer?" asked Bubba. "Just let me do the talkin', okay?" said Earl. They finished their beers, threw the empty bottles under the seat and slapped the labels on their foreheads. When they reached the roadblock, the sheriff said, "Have you boys been drinking?" "No sir," said Earl, "we're on the patch." A good chess player A man went to visit a friend and was amazed to find him playing chess with his dog. He watched the game in astonishment for a while. "I can hardly believe my eyes!" he exclaimed. "That's the smartest dog I've ever seen." "Nah, he's not so smart," the friend replied. "I've beaten him three games out of five."

APRIL MEETING LIZZIE S BISTRO Designed by our politician s.

April 2008 Events Each month of 2008 has been full of events and April continued this trend. April 1 We started the month on April Fools day with a business meeting at Lizzie s Bistro on Palm Bay Rd. We had a record turnout of 52 people at that meeting. For many of our Snow Birds, this was their last meeting before heading back up north. We hope they have a pleasant summer and we look forward to seeing them again in the fall. April 5 The fifth of April was to have been our Chapter Ride to Plant City for strawberry/shortcake; however this event was cancelled due to weather. Imaginary weather it turned out (the day was beautiful), but that also happens sometimes. April 6 This date was the second meeting of the Chapter horseshoe competition at Wickham Park. Dick and Brenda Wilson reported they had a good turnout. April 12 The Chapter sent a large delegation to FL1W s Green Eggs & Ham rally in Orlando. See the separate article for details. April Harry turned this overnight trip to Ft Meyers into a three day event. He stated they had a good turnout and managed to include tours of Ft Meyers and Sanibel Island. April 21 The Chapter had a large representation at the Vietnam Wall opening ceremony at Wickham Park. After meeting down the street at Wal-Mart, the Chapter rode into Wickham Park as a group. This annual ceremony honors not only the Vietnam veterans but all veterans. It includes the moving (Vietnam) wall plus memorials for 9/11 victims and Iraq/Afghanistan veterans. Chapter members marched in as a group and placed the Chapter s wreath adjacent to the wall. Thanks go to Lynn for preparing two wreaths; one for Vietnam and one for Iraq/Afghanistan. Immediately after placing the wreath, many members headed out to R J Gators for dinner. The early exit of our group of teal shirted Goldwings riders was very noticeable as the group rode off in formation some distance behind the Memorial Wall, the speaker s podium, and the on-going ceremony. Seven Chapter members felt compelled to stay for the entire ceremony. We were treated to inspirational speeches, comments from a Gold Star mother (lost her son in the Iraq war), music from the Florida Air Academy Marching Band, and music from the Melbourne Bag Pipe corp. Rex and Vickie Meyers also participated in escorting the wall to Wickham and helped set it up the day before. Rex & Vicki and Sharyn & I went back to the park Friday night for the concerts. 9 Members Prior to Placing Wreath Rex s sister Sandi Remembering an old boy friend -- lost too soon April 26 A Chapter First Aid Class was conducted by Jim and Linda McGinnis from the Daytona Chapter. Due to the large number of members who signed up for the course, Harry moved the event to a Church facility on Emerson in Palm Bay. There were 18 members present. Jim and Linda taught us the latest techniques in CPR and First Aid. (See attached article on First Aid Kit). April 29 - Since April was such a busy month and had the multi-day ride to Ft Meyers in the middle, only one Kick-Tire was scheduled for the month. The location was Shorty s, a new Bar-B-Q restaurant on Wickham. Nineteen people turned out for the event. Food was good but not great. Bill Harris Ride Coordinator Speed up Dude! She is passing you on the right! When we get back home, I am never going to ride with these people again!

Green Eggs & Ham April 12 th 2008 was a beautiful Saturday and everyone was ready for our first ride of March. Our destination was FL1W s annual Green Eggs & Ham Rally in Orlando. With 12 bikes and 20 riders, we divided into 2 groups and headed west on US- 192 around 8:30 in the morning. Even though the Apopka Chapter was putting on the rally, the event location was a Moose Lodge on north Orange Blossom Trail (OBT). To miss some of the Orlando traffic, we headed west to St Cloud and then traveled north around the southwest corner of the Orlando Airport. Next, we zigzagged north and west across Orange Ave and Orange Blossom Trail until we eventually turned north on John Young Parkway. This route enabled us to pass well west of downtown Orlando. It was interesting going through areas of Orlando I had not visited before. John Young Parkway is a beautiful street without a lot of Commercial structures. Ready to the County Line Saloon Eventually we turned left where John Young intersects OBT a few miles north of SR-50. The Moose Lodge was just a ¼ mile up on the right. The Lodge is a large structure with two separate party facilities; a restaurant/bar and an auditorium/bar. The rally was held in the latter. FL2D Arrives In Orlando

Securing the Toys Wayne & Debbie Cover the Scooter Sandi, Vickie & Rex Meyers Food was being served as we arrived so most people opted to eat prior to playing the various games. Mixed in with eating were the purchase of grand prize tickets ($500) and 50/25/25 tickets. Door prizes were also being announced periodically. There must have been close to 60 door prize winners listed on the white board (everyone s number but mine). A DJ played great oldies and C&W music during most of the rally. Chapter Members Watching the Auction

After eating, we attacked the games. Tickets won from the games were used to improve our odds of winning other prizes. There was one particular VIBRATING cushion that Sharyn just had to have. It wasn t until later that I found out that she took our entire winnings and bet them ALL on that one cushion. Fortunately, she won it (she is still smiling). Sharyn Got Her Prize Cushion Many other FL2D members won items also. Something different at this rally was the silent auction was replaced with a live auction. Rex Meyer won a new GL1800 windshield. A member from another chapter won a new GL1800 seat for around $40. There were many good buy including a couple of leather coats. During the drawings for the 50/25/25 and other prizes, a lucky member from Wesley Chapel won three major prizes all within 5 minutes. After the rally, Harry led the main group back to Melbourne. Seven of us (Bill & Sharyn; Wayne & Debbie; and Rex, Vickie & Rex s sister Sandi) continued on to Winter Gardens to shop and have lunch. This was not a simple feat since Sandi had ridden over behind Harry, and Rex was now the proud owner of a new windshield. Fortunately, Debbie had ridden her own bike (scooter). The solution was Sandi rode behind Wayne, and Harry carried back the new windshield. Our side trip was fun and we eventually made it back to Melbourne around dark. Oh! About the green eggs, they tasted the same; just don t look at them while you are eating. Bill Harris Ride Coordinator One day, a man walks into a dentist's office and asks how much it will cost to extract wisdom teeth. "Eighty dollars," the dentist says. "That's a ridiculous amount," the man says. "Isn't there a cheaper way?" "Well," the dentist says, "if you don't use an anesthetic, I can knock it down to $60." That's still too expensive," the man says. "Okay," says the dentist. "If I save on anesthesia and simply rip the teeth out with a pair of pliers, I could get away with charging $20." "Nope," moans the man, "it's still too much." "Hm," says the dentist, scratching his head. "If I let one of my students do it for the experience, I suppose I could charge you just $10." "Marvelous," says the man, "book my wife for next Tuesday!"

FL2-G 25th Anniversary, Ft. Meyers On a clear mild Friday, seven couples of us Gold Wingers, took off from Melbourne to show a presents at the Ft. Myers FL2-G rally and boy we did. Mo and Deb drove the van to not only carry our wares, but to give us a place to hang if needed It was also to let Mo sleep from a medical procedure we do not want to talk about but we have all probably had at our age. On the first night, with a semi full moon overhead, we ate at the world famous Mel's Diner. Ray and Rachael had romantic memories of this eartery and it was good. Lynn started with desert as per usual throughout the weekend (boy that girl can eat). Dinner was followed by a moonlite ride up the beach. Wow! What a club, and a fun group of riders. Our guest Elisa Titus and myself, were in quest of a liquor store as Elisa wanted a night cap. Well, we rode and we rode and began to think that Ft Myers was a dry county. We went to bed thirsty that nite but happy. Saturday we were up early for the rally. Bob, Trish, Mike, Pat, Ray, Diane, Rachael and Ray, Harry and Lynn all rode in the poker run but no winners. Elisa and I went shopping at the mall. We did finally make the rally. I entered my trike in the bike show and took 3rd prize! Ray and Rachael filled the van with fabulous prizes, all for $20. You might see some of these items again folks, so not to worry. It was a good lunch, a lot of fun, and a well attended event. The Honda dealer over there is very supportive of this club. All the big wigs were there in their vests and lettered shirts so of course we sent Harry up to pitch our January 09 event. We made another ride to the beach road (something we can't get enough of), still hunting for the liquor store. We did of course, find the Dairy Queen for an emergency stop. After the hunt, we met up with the gang and were off to dinner at the Macaronni Grill. I was just too tired for a ride this night, but Lynn spotted an ABC store, so we finally got to fulfill Elisa's request. Now we know what it is like as a Harley rider, hanging out at the liquor store. On Sunday (no we did not have a hangover, too tired to drink), we headed off to the Edison Museum. He was quit the man and we owe a lot to him, especially the tattoo pen. Noon Sunday, we headed home. We got to wear our rain gear for a couple minutes, but it was fun. Thank you Mike for studying up on our area of Ft Myers, and giving us history lessons. This was my first rally and I look forward to the next. It gives us a chance to get to know each other better and most of all, to RIDE. (Special thanks to Barb Childberg for her report of the Ft. Meyers Trip.)

VIETNAM MEMORIAL CEREMONY DINNER AT GATOR S

For some time now, I had been promising a cycle trip over to the west coast of Florida. I had visions of beautiful back road riding through the tree lined roads of central Florida, followed by skirting the shore of the Gulf of Mexico. This would be the second run for the new trailer. We weren t to be gone long but I took the trailer anyway. It was filled it with clothes for 3-4 nights, along with a change of warm and cold weather jackets, and a thermos of coffee. Not a load but then again, this was also a test run. Our event was set up to leave on Sunday the 13 th of April. Guess the 13 is what caused the problem. To begin with, the temperature plunged with a passing cold front. We got a slow start so we didn t notice the cooler temperature very much on day one. We wound around taking as many back roads as possible, starting out through the Mormon ranch to avoid I-95. When we arrived in Sanford, it seemed like a good place to have lunch so I pulled into a restaurant, taking the first parking spot next to the street. After lunch we suited up. I started the Wing and backed trailer and wing into the driveway. When I pressed the reverse button again, to take it out of reverse, the button would not come out. It was stuck in reverse. No amount of banging, bumping or words of encouragement would cause the button to come out. I rocked the bike thinking there might be a load on the gear, preventing it from coming unlocked. No luck. The smile before the switch. Panic.concern began to set in. I was blocking their drive with a bike that wouldn t move. I got off, unhooked the trailer and rolled it back into another parking spot. Now I only blocked half of the entry into the restaurant. I got out my copy of the Gold Book from GWRRA and called the first name on the list. He was very nice but not in town. I caught him on his cell phone but he did give me a phone number for a cycle shop in Sanford. They were very nice too, but their shop is closed on Sunday (this is what I get for not going to Church!). Next thought, if I had to put it on a trailer, how would we get an 850 pound bike up on a trailer with its wheel locked? After some more banging on the switch, I called Bill Harris for some ideas and left a message on his cell phone. Back to the switch! Now I was to the point that I was going to start taking the switch cover apart, but first I decided to try my knife. I worked the blade long the side of the switch and it popped out. The reverse light went out! We were back in business. Oh happy day! With the trailer hooked up again, we were off to better times. Down the road, my cell phone rang. Later I listened to a message from Bill Harris. Bless his heart, he got on the internet trying to look up the problem and had a few suggestions and an offer to come get me if needed. I called him back with the good news and thanked him profusely. I didn t touch that switch for the rest of the trip. We road past the Marjorie Rawlings Historical Memorial, just south of Gainesville. It was a beautiful ride with more of the overhanging oak tree lined roads. Just north of her memorial, we stopped at the Yearling Restaurant. Really a neat old place. Overpriced but nice. In our room Willie played the blues while we enjoyed HOT coffee with our dessert. After a few photos, we rode on into Gainesville and spent the night. Coffee, Tea, or Me..? The next morning was another cool day as we departed taking HW 27 across to the Gulf. It was a beautiful clear day but cold and very windy. I would say it was gusting up to 80 knots but it was really something like knots of wind. Those warm over pants that I bought for our trip to Yellowstone last year would have felt good, but they were at home in the closet. Linda was really good. She

didn t complain but her legs and hands were cold. South of Tallahassee, we took the little loop of HW 98 that looks on the map like you would see the Gulf. You don t! The only time you get a glimpse of the water is on the bridges. Just to prove we saw water, I took a couple of pictures. By now, we were cold and I had lost interest in the Gulf. We headed up to Tallahassee for the night, stopping along the way at a Wal Mart. Twenty minutes later I had a pair of men s work jeans for the Bride to wear over her pants. Sort of a replacement for those over pants back home in the closet. Tallahassee is about 410 miles from Melbourne. We returned home the next day, again using the back roads except for the leg from New Smyrna Beach on I-95. We stopped several times (to warm up) but it was a beautiful ride. Aside from the cold snap, windy days and the lockup in reverse, it was a good three days. Not Roadkill! Just Linda enjoying the flowers...up close. Richard and Linda Mitts. Shots from Killboy.com Sharing the road? Enjoying the curves with the wife!

Top Ten Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave Back 10. Afraid it will invalidate warranty. 9. Leather and studs make it too heavy to raise arm. 8. Refuse to wave to anyone whose bike is already paid for. 7. Afraid to let go of handlebars because they might vibrate off. 6. Rushing wind would blow scabs off the new tattoos. 5. Angry because just took out second mortgage to pay luxury tax on new Harley. 4. Just discovered the fine print in owner's manual and realized H-D is partially owned by Honda. 3. Can't tell if other riders are waving or just reaching to cover their ears like everyone else. 2. Remembers the last time a Harley rider waved back, he impaled his hand on spiked helmet. 1. They're too tired from spending hours polishing all that chrome to lift their arms. Top Ten Reasons Why Gold Wing Riders Riders Don't Wave Back 10. Wasn't sure whether other rider was waving or making an obscene gesture. 9. Afraid might get frostbite if hand is removed from heated grip. 8. Has arthritis and the past 400 miles have made it difficult to raise arm. 7. Reflection from etched windshield momentarily blinded him. 6. The espresso machine just finished. 5. Was actually asleep when other rider waved. 4. Was in a three-way conference call with stockbroker and accessories dealer. 3. Was distracted by odd shaped blip on radar screen. 2. Was simultaneously adjusting the air suspension, seat height, programmable CD player, seat temperature, and satellite navigation system. 1. Couldn't find the "auto wave back" button on dashboard. Left his brain back at the cabin with his clothes. Whoops! Maybe he is from England!

Financial Advise Column: Retirement plans compared.. If you had purchased $ of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $ With Enron, you would have $16.50 left of the original $1000. With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left. If you had purchased $ of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $49.00 left. If you had purchased United Airlines, you would have nothing left. But, if you had purchased $ worth of beer one year ago, drunk all the beer, then turned in the cans for recycling, you would have $ Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. A special thanks to our members who submit articles. We love the support and the good information. Send them to Richard Mitts rm32904@yahoo.com Word documents are preferred.
