I hope everyone is getting ready to go to Huron. I am excited about the new garden tour. I know that must be a big surprise to you all. I'll probably be first in line for that tour. Sure hope there isn't a conflict of some sort. There is always so much to do that we can never do all we want. I'm still hoping they bring back one of the sewing seminars I couldn't squeeze in in Sedalia. I'm afraid I may be busier than ever this year. I hope you've all sent in your votes for the motor home issue. Time is running out but is fast. Do it now if you haven't already. Please! There are several other things as well. LET S ALL GO TO HURON One Iowa Unit Caravan for early workers will be rendezvousing at Wilder City Park and Campground on Hwy. 3 at the SE corner of Allison, IA on Thursday, June 13 th. Anyone wanting to camp at Allison on the night of June 12 th is welcome. The caravan will be leaving the campground at 10:00 AM on the 13 th and head northwesterly about 170 miles to spend the night at Gull Point State Park on Spirit Lake, near Milford, IA. The next day, June 14 th, the caravan will head north to I-90, west past Sioux Falls, SD and on northwesterly to The Blue Beret for June is online now. We also just got ours via snail mail so everyone should have that as well. Please be sure to see Chuck and Doris Jean s article with pictures. Great! In case you've seen Hudson, Iowa, in particular on the news because of flooding, you probably know we're very close-maybe 10 miles from there. We spent one day pushing water around in our basement but that was due to a stuck float in the sump pump. We are very wet here but not floating yet. There are many closed roads and several bridges down. I hope all of you are just as safe as we have been. I will say I have never seen this much water in our area. We are worrying about several of you who are near waterways. Please let us know you're alright. Remember we have courtesy parking if you need it. I'm sure we will all be praying for the folks who are so much worse off than we here in Iowa are. Hope to see you all in Huron soon. Linda Huron. This day s travels will be about 225 miles and should take about 4 hours, getting the caravan to the fairgrounds in the early to mid-afternoon. If your parking date is later than June 14 th, it is our understanding that you can park at the fairgrounds, but it will cost $20 per night until your designated parking date. Another early worker caravan will be led by Chuck Helle starting on June 10th. It will be on Sunday, June 30 th at the Plains Restaurant, which is located at th St. NE, near the Big Pheasant. Gathering time will be 11:30 with eating time at noon. It will be order from the menu. At this time, Lavonne thinks there will be approximately 30 members in attendance, so we should have a good turnout. Mark this on your calendar and see you there. If you plan to attend, Lavonne would greatly appreciate it if you would get in touch with her so she can let the restaurant know how many to expect. She can be reached by cell phone at

2 MARVELOUS MAY MEETING By Nancy Helle #5494 What a beautiful area for a rally!! We each received a ditty bag which included information for the surrounding area and a strawberry that opened up into a bag for shopping. The real challenge was to get the bag back into the strawberry pouch! The tours had been rearranged so we could go to all of them. Friday morning we toured the John Deere Harvester Plant in East Moline, IL. We watched a brief video first, then toured the plant. While waiting for the tour to start, Carolyn Muir gave us an up close view on the display model of components she worked on while employed at the facility. One of these harvesters costs $700,000. After the John Deere tour, some of us had just enough time to eat at Lagomarcino s, an authentic soda fountain, before we headed for the Isabel Bloom Studio Production Tour. Unique sculptures were made with cement. Statues, vases and smaller objects were made to resemble weathered items after coatings were applied and wiped off. We returned to the campground for Happy Hour and visiting around the campfire. Saturday morning some members went to the Farmers Market in downtown Davenport. Later we all met at US Adventure RV for lunch and a maintenance session on getting our units ready for the season. At the conclusion, questions from members were answered. We were given a guided tour of their facility. Thank you US Adventure RV for furnishing our lunch. There was a 1955 Airstream, which was being restored, sitting in front of the building. Many of us took pictures of it. While at US Adventure RV we met several couples who were interested in obtaining an Airstream. They are potential members for our club. Many of the ladies went to the quilt shop in LeClaire to purchase fabric or kits for future projects. Since bad weather was on the way, we all headed home. WHAT A SUPER RALLY THANKS TO OUR HOSTS. Statues in Isabel Bloom Studio SPACE AVAILABLE ON VIKING TRAIL CARAVAN Your newsletter team received the following on June 3 rd and are including it in this newsletter. It was part of a mass mailing, so some of you may also have received it. 3 Wellness Report A recent telephone check with the Wininger s revealed that Marcella was doing fine with her recovery from her back problem. However, Ray indicated that she then developed digestion problems. A return trip to Mayo at Rochester revealed that she had some blockage in an intestine, so an operation removed about 6 inches of that intestine. She is now recovering from the surgery and Ray reported that she is getting stronger each day. They still have hopes of making it to Huron. Atta a girl, Marcella! WE RE GOING TO THE TALL SHIPS RALLY A unit caravan to the Region 7 Tall Ships Rally in Duluth, MN has been approved by the Board and will be led by Chuck and Doris Jean Cabalka. 4 TIMELESS TRAVEL TRAILER TOUR While in the Denver, CO area (Arvada, to be precise) to attend the high school graduation of a granddaughter, Chuck and Doris Jean Cabalka had an opportunity to tour the Timeless Travel Trailer facility in Wheat Ridge. Timeless has been featured on the Travel Channel on TV. This firm, founded in 2004, provides a unique service for those RV owners who want something special in their RV s and who have the money to have it done. For nearly 30 years, founder Brett Hall worked in railroad passenger car operations. His expertise was all-encompassing, from structures to mechanical and from systems to interiors. In 2004, after founding and selling the American Orient Express Railway Company, he got back into his true passion re-manufacturing beautiful travel vehicles, only this time it was trailers rather than train cars. The firm, Timeless Travel Trailers does not restore RV s, but primarily customizes the interiors (although they will make some exterior repairs and polishing as part of the interior project). The first one they did was an old Spartan that was almost trash when they started but turned out to be beautiful in the end. Although they will customize nearly any RV, they seem to prefer Airstreams. They do about 20 units per year, with costs normally running well into 6 digits. When Chuck and Doris Jean toured the facility, they saw a small Airstream that had undergone a huge transformation. Not only had it been polished to within an inch of it s life, Timeless is able to purchase, direct from the Airstream Company, trailers which consist of just the running gears and shell. They then completely build the interior to customer s orders. Although there are a few 2 or 3 person firms doing this sort of custom interiors, Timeless (with 25 employees and 10,000 sq. ft. of space) is the largest, by far. You can find much more information by visiting timelesstraveltrailers.com on the internet. One of their current projects is a complete customized interior in a classic Airstream motorhome and this work will be featured on an upcoming Travel Channel program. Work Space, Sink, Pizza Oven, Serving Table and Lift-up Door but it had new running gears and a very unique interior. It had been outfitted as a rolling pizza parlor, complete with work table, cold storage, oven and left-side opening to serve customers. Because it was to be shipped to Australia, they had even had to move the entrance door to the opposite side of the rig, since Australia drives on the wrong side of the road. It was something to see. They are in the process of designing the modification of an Airstream trailer to a total length of 40 feet. That will be quite a sight when completed. 4

5 Solution to Cryptogram What a great rally we had at Long Grove! Thanks, to the Johnson s, Muir s and Larson s. Now, it s on to Huron. You all come. See you there. Anyone Have Flagpoles For Sale? Chuck and Doris Jean Cabalka are in need of three (3) telescoping flagpoles. The metal ones they got from Paul Ryan a few years ago finally gave out. New poles, at more than $120 each, are out of the question. If anyone knows of poles that no one is using and would be interested in selling, have them get in touch with C&DJ at cdjcabalka@juno.com or by phoning Having them before heading to Huron on June 12 th would be appreciated.
