Era Fashion: Historian: Librarian: Publicity: Raffle: Sheriff: Sunshine Technical Webmaster GRA-NEVA GRAM This is the newsletter of the Gra-Neva A s (Grass Valley/Nevada City) Chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA.) Feel free to use information here, with credit. Club members may place a business card size advertisement in this paper for a small fee; contact the Treasurer. Larry Hubbard Aaron Johnson Bill Gleason Karen Mitchell Sandy Hundemer Halverson/Mitchell Denise Hugenberger SERVICE CHAIRPERSONS-2009 Bill Toensing Ted Baerresen Myra Clampitt Bridgette Holzapple Bill Mitchell Carl Ambrose Denia Hubbard Sharon Pierce & Kim Kelly Steve Straw Louise Baerresen Ron Pierce Bridgette Holzapple President s Message * * * * * * * * Editor: I was told the President is on vacation, so no message; but he wanted to send a BIG THANK YOU to everyone involved with putting on the 50th Anniversary Celebration. We had a great turn out. Old photograph books were on display documenting events from over 20 years ago. A few of our long-time members were able to identify some faces unknown to most of us. There was music, a little dancing, great food, and the weather even cooperated by holding off the storm. The new Hubley track was a hit. It was surprising to find so many folks had cars to race, and to witness the various states of repair (or disrepair). Rather than using cutthroat tactics, we enjoyed joshing one another. Former member, David Hughes, owned the Hubley that eventually beat everyone else s. Sometime take a look at the box Phil Dress brought his Hubley in, it was tailor-made by Phil. The track itself was built by Larry Hubbard and Ted Baerresen specially for our celebration. Club meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at Banner Grange, 2629 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley at 7:00 p.m. We welcome all guests. Membership in MAFCA is required for club membership; write 250 S. Cypress, La Habra, CA Join us for an informal get-together at the Penny s Diner in The Fowler Center, near Save- Mart each Wednesday about 7:00 a.m. Items for the newsletter can be ed to: ModelA.Ray@att.net First Lady and President Hubbard at Club Anniversary If anyone has information re: a club member who is ill, or needs congratulating, etc. contact me. 3 Era Fashion News by Bridgette Holzapple First, I d like to thank Trisha, Ginny Gleason, Louise Baerresen, Denise Hugenberger, Mary Lou Drees, Sandy Hundemer and her granddaughter Jordan, for their attendance at the Era Fashion Kick-Off Event! We had a great time. We enjoyed pastries, quiche, fruit and coffee along with each other s company. Several people brought beautiful era items to show. We were able to discuss items to see if they were appropriate for our era (and/or close enough in some cases). It was very educational. If you were unable to attend, I sure hope to see you at future era events. Other news - I had the pleasure of judging as an apprentice judge at the NCRG roundup. I learned so much and enjoyed myself thoroughly! There were such a variety of ensembles; an organ grinder, a student nurse, a fly fisherman and a bride to name a few. I ve got my fingers crossed as it appears that I may get to apprentice or co-judge in Vancouver this summer! Please watch for information on an upcoming Vintage Fashion Expo in San Francisco on September 18. I thought it would be fun to carpool down and search for bargains together (and go to lunch??). The MAFCA web-site provides a variety of information on era fashions. Check out the many articles they have posted that answer just about every question you can think of. I will bring some of the articles to meetings for you to take home as well. Lastly, I would like to encourage anyone and everyone to dress in era fashion for our events whenever you get the urge especially for our Annual Christmas Party! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. * * * * No Minutes due to computer problems. Gra-Neva Gram 3.

7 While the ladies were discussing era fashion: Some of the male members gathered in Gerry Holzapple s very nicely equipped shop to watch and maybe assist with the installation of a new top on his 1930 Tudor. It was immediately clear that Gerry had done a lot of research on the job before he started. Some of us drove tacks and some were gofers. I think we all learned a lot from watching the procedure and I would not be afraid to try it myself (with a little help from my friends?). Bridgette provided a nice array of snacks and drink including pastries, fresh fruit and quiche. I understand that the ladies were provided a similar feast inside the house. I hope they had as much fun as we did. In attendance were, Ted Baerresen, Steve Halverson, Larry Hubbard and Greg Youngman. Thanks to Gerry and Bridgette Naggiar Winery Tour Sign up for July 17th At the last meeting, there were only 6 members indicating interest in doing this tour on Saturday, July 17th. Since the winery is preparing for wine tasting, appetizers, and a winery tour, they would like to have at least 20 people. We should be able to do this. To "sweeten the pie", Naggiar is willing to delay our arrival time to 4:00PM in order to include the opportunity to see the outdoor movie at dark. So here are some revised details: *Bring a picnic dinner and your outdoor chairs, if you plan to stay for the movie. The movie is optional. *We will leave K-Mart at 3:00PM taking the scenic McCourtney Rd. route for about a 4:00PM arrival. *The wine tasting, appetizers, and tour should last from 4:00PM until about 6:30PM. * The picnic dinner should take us close to showtime, which is about 8:00PM. It would be a good idea to purchase a bottle of wine from Naggiar to enjoy with your dinner or to take home. The movie is optional, and a movie ticket is $10.00 each. The movie title is not known as yet. * We will return home on Hwy. 49, which is easier to navigate after dark, than the road we arrived on. * A final count will be taken at the June 24th meeting. Payment of $10.00 can be paid to either Bob or Bobbie Whiting for the wine tasting and appetizers on the night of the meeting. The $10.00 movie ticket can be paid for at Naggiar Winery on the day of our visit. This should be a fun tour, and hopefully there will be a good turnout. Please call us at if you have any questions. Bob & Bobbie Whiting Gra-Neva Gram 7.
