1 Acorn A s Our 47th Year The NutShell March 2018 Coming Events Greetings Club members, A big thank you goes out to Bill and Kathy Morte and Bill and Gayle Baxley for kicking off our 2018 tours with their Valentine s tour. While I couldn t make it because of my back, I look forward to going to our Omelet Brunch tour in March as well as the St. Patrick s Day parade. Speaking of the St. Patrick s Day Parade, I want to thank Bill and Kathy Morte of the Henry s A s for inviting us to participate with them in the parade. Combining our Club with other Clubs for tours is something we plan on developing this year. Right now we are going combining with the Metropolitan Car Club for our Champagne & Omelet Brunch tour on March 11. Contact me or Tony Shull if you think of other clubs who may want to tour with us in I am still looking for a location for a lube day so if anyone has any ideas, please contact me. Finally, I want to encourage everyone to try to attend the MAFCA National Convention, June 24 thru the 29 th in Sparks, Nevada. It s a great event you won t want to miss. We have been invited to join Henry s A s for the St Patrick s Day parade in Dublin on Saturday, March 17. The parade begins at 9:30 so plan to leave Creekside at 8:00 to meet us at Hooter s in Dublin. We will be at the beginning of the parade.we usually go to Armadillo Willy s for lunch after, but may change to a place that offers breakfast and lunch since we will finish so early maybe around 10:30.details will follow at the next meeting. 2 Page 2 2 Meeting Minutes General Meeting February December 13, 17, NutShell Meeting was called to order promptly by our Sergeant of Arms Max Romero at 7:30pm. President George Diamantine welcomed everyone Motion to approve February s minutes as published in the Nutshell made by Brian McGarry and 2 nd by Jackie Brooks. Membership chairperson Bill Biddell reported 29 members in attendances and that our Sergeant of Arms is a dues paying member. Treasurer Steve Danzer gave a 2018 budget report for the income and expenses. Anne Biddell made a motion to accept the 2018 budget, Brian McGarry seconded it. Secretary Sue McGarry read the minutes from the January 21 Board meeting. She also reported we received a catalog from Specialty Sales. Public Relations, Kathy Morte said the Henry A s invited The Acorn A s to the Dublin St. Patrick s Day parade and will be going to Armadillo Willy s after for Lunch. After displaying our cars near City Hall. Leaving Creekside at 8 am. Nutshell Bill Biddell asked for articles by the 20 th. NCRG rep Vern Brooks said the 2019 Roundup will be in Santa Rosa and the Nationals is June in Reno. Sunshine Bea Van Wetter said Charlie isn t doing very well and then called members, Vern Brooks and Dahlia Amaral to celebrate their birthdays. Raffle, Mona Diamantine explained our new raffle. Tickets are two dollars and if you draw the white chip, you win the pot. Webmaster, Bob Woodford asked the members to check if the information is correct so he could update our web site. Send Bob any picture you have. Tour Leader Tony Shull had Kathy Morte update the Valentine Tour to The Bridges for Brunch. Mona Diamantine Rotary Brunch well be Sunday March 11 leaving Creekside with the Metro Club at 10am. The $15 cost buys Dictionaries for Hayward 3 rd graders. New business, Bill Biddell sais he has patches if anyone needs one. Raffle was won by Bill Biddell but drew a red chip so the pot stays until someone draws a white chip. Refreshments were provided by Jackie Brooks, Kathy Morte, Wanda Romero and Linda Rodriquez, March meeting refreshments by Sue McGarry, Bea Van Wetter and Carol Low. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 for refreshments, motioned by Brian McGarry and seconded by Vern Brooks. Submitted by, Sue McGarry, Secretary Ford was Charlie Brown s TV debut Nope, it wasn t the Christmas special that introduced the Peanuts cast to the silver screen. Instead it was a 1959 Ford commercial that brought the Peanuts gang to life for the first time ever.

When checking tire pressures and bringing them back up to 35 psi, don't forget to check the spare tire (s). I had a puncher last Monday and my spare only had about 20 psi in it. Luckily someone in the group had a small portable compressor with them and we were able to air it up and go. We will be leaving Creekside at 10 AM. We ll have a one hour tour ending up at Moreau High School where we will enjoy Omelets customized with what ever you want. Tickets are $15.00 each, $5 for children and may be purchased from George or Mona Diamantine the day of the event. It seems like only yesterday, May 28, 1971, that a group of 8 Model A enthusiasts got together and formed a chapter. Augie Nevarez was the first paying member. Kay Wilkerson acting secretary wrote for a charter from The Model A Ford Club of America with the request of the name being Acorn A's.

4 Page 4 NutShell CLUB TOURS Club tours are held whenever a member would like to lead a tour somewhere close or far. The tour is for the sole benefit of the touring members pleasure and enjoyment. The tour must be sanctioned by the tour master or club. Tour leader trophies will be given at the annual meeting. As tour leader you have many options, day, overnight, weekend and sometimes longer. Most of Acorn A's tours in the past have been held on either a Saturday or Sunday. All tour leaders are volunteers. C.B Radios are encouraged. Channel 16 is used unless otherwise notified. This is an easy task and an important one for the Club. The Tour Chairman will assist you in every way. In order to lead a tour, all you have to do is think of a place of interest you think the Club would enjoy visiting. Check with the Tour Chairman to see if we have been there before, for either information or if there were problems. Be sure to take a "dry-run" to see approximately how long it will take (including possible breakdowns) and check on either a restaurant or picnic area for lunch and if your tour is long allow a least a "pit" stop every hour to hour and half. Also if there are activities planned, swimming pool or playground for the youngsters and how many miles will be traveled with an approximate time of return. Tours generally begin between 8:00 am and l0:00 am and return before dark on the day tours. The starting point is usually Creekside Center. Overnighters do require more planning and reservations. You do not need a "Model A" to lead a tour or attend one!!! If you lead a tour the best place to get participants is through an article in the Nutshell. If at all possible have a sign up sheet at the earliest meeting so you know how many will be interested in your tour and if anything is required, picnic, hotel fees etc.. This will also give you an idea what you need to plan. The food and company was enjoyed by all. Each person received a valentine bag of chocolaty treats. Gail and Bill and Bill and I want to thank everyone of the over 20 people who came on our tour!
