Page 10 7 Calendar & Events Make your plans for all the great events! Page 11 8 NOTES FROM THE COMMODORE Hello Everyone! Well I guess this is my last article as SYC commodore. I really don't have much to say but here it goes. The Lighted Boat Parade was a blast; we had several SYC members who participated and decorated their boats. You all did as awesome job. I am very grateful to all the participants who took lots of members along for the ride. It was cold, but who cares, we had fun. We were able to give a check to the Stockton Children's Home for over $1, They were very appreciative. Bob Cain, you did a wonderful job of organizing this event. Thank you. The CHANGE OF WATCH is on January 5th. I know you will all support Larry Brown next year as you have supported me this year. Take care and God Bless.. Safety Day Reminder - Schatzie Haws, Marina Manager On February 2nd we will have our ANNUAL SAFETY DAY. Pat Carson is our Safety Officer for 2019 and I know he will have a very informational program. Please see the flyer in this Bulletin and contact him so he can plan accordingly. This is an opportunity to have your mandatory Annual Vessel Inspection done. As Marina Manager I am updating my records and ask that you bring a current copy of your vessel registration, insurance verification, and documentation certificate. Also, if you have not signed a current copy of the Berth Rental Agreement (dated 6/20/17) you will be required to sign a new one. I will have copies available on February 2nd. I thank you in advance for your cooperation. COMMODORE LUCY HAMILTON Serving the Club for 2018

!2 AUGUST SYC BULLETIN 2018 Notes from the Board of Directors HAPPY NEW YEAR! Last month I thanked the 2018 Board of Directors for the projects accomplished this past year. I welcome the opportunity to work with the new Chairman and BOD in 2019; however, I did forget to thank our Stockton Yacht Club Bulletin editor, Frank Gurnee. Frank stepped up to give Schatzie Haws a break and has done a fantastic job. The Bulletin is the lifeline between the club and its members. Be sure to take some time to read what is happening at our wonderful club. The December BOD meeting was filled with some housekeeping tasks. Chairman Elect Donna Clausen gave the FINAL dock project report. The project permits were signed off and the contractors were paid in full. The BOD approved additional piling and electrical expenses above budget which was only 0.012% of the total budget. Thanks to the project committee for keeping the costs under control. Additionally, there was continued discussion about the Marina Berth Size rule change. The rules qualifying a boat for a slip were written when the docks had a pointed end; the boat was qualified bow in. With the completion of the marina project, all slips are now rectangular in shape. The slip sizes of 40, 50, and now 45 must be taken into consideration. A new Berth Size rule change will be considered in January. The New Year begins with one of my favorite events, the Annual SYC Oyster BBQ on January 1st. This is followed by the 2019 Change of Watch on Saturday January 5, I am looking forward to seeing you at the club. BOARD CHAIRMAN ROGER BEEBE Serving the Club for 2018 RBOC Report - Paul Clausen, Jack Michael The New Year is fast approaching and although most new legislation hasn t been written, there are some bills that Governor Brown vetoed that will be coming back for Governor Newsom to decide. Most notable are the push for an Office of Sustainable Outdoor Recreation and the smoking ban in State Parks, even on a boat out in the water. The RBOC Directors will be meeting to look at other proposed legislation in January. I expect about 200 summaries of bills from both the Assembly and Senate. During review we decide how each bill effects the boaters of California and whether or not we should support the bill, support the bill with suggested changes, or be against the proposal. This year we may have some of our own proposed legislation that we will try to find Senators and Assemblymen to sponsor. In late February we will be a meeting with Assemblymen and Senators in the Capitol to influence the outcome of the new legislative session for the benefit of California voters. Wish us luck, and please donate $20 to RBOC. All of your donations go to the efforts to benefit boating, as the Directors travel and activities are self-funded.

!3 AUGUST SYC BULLETIN 2018 Port Captains - Randy Welch & Cliff Kenst This is the final report from Cliff and me. We hope you had a great Christmas and New Year! During the last few days here we are getting the electrical run to the last parking lot light on the east end. John is doing a great job finishing the gates on the new docks and we are planning on doing a short wall, if approved, on the west end. We have found enough panels to put up a 48 inch wall as we had before. Safety ladders from the water on the new docks will be installed as soon as they arrive. Bob has finished the extension of the Wi-Fi network into the new area, so we should get great coverage for all our berths. Welcome to the new residents of the 45 foot slips! We will repair the sprinkler system that did not survive the heavy equipment during construction. Recently we had to remove several trees near the Club and trim the eucalyptus trees between the garage shed and Club that were endangering our phone lines, etc. The rotted deck board on the guest dock was replaced and most open projects should be finished by CHANGE OF WATCH. Everything is back in place after our boat explosion. All supplies have been replenished and our fire pump returned to its ready status. The pump we bought last year sure came in handy during this issue. Remember to be safe and respect the explosive power of gas and propane! I think during SAFETY DAY this coming year, we will have renewed interest in spill containment and Fire Pump operation. We are looking forward to a great year in 2019 and hope to see you all out on the water and at Club events!! BoatUS Renewal Agreement - Schatzie Haws Stockton Yacht Club has renewed its membership with BoatUS. Our Group ID Number is GA8345OY and our membership is good through May 31, Membership dues are discounted 50% for a price of $15. Along with our Renewal Agreement, we have been provided with some updated information that will explain the benefits and services available. Some of these benefits include: On-the-water and on-the-road towing service Low cost marine insurance Discounts at West Marine Discounts on fuel, repairs and transient slips at over 900 marinas If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact or coopgroups@boatus.com or visit BoatUS.com.

!4 AUGUST th Annual Delta Reflections Christmas Lighted Boat Parade - Bob Cain, Staff Commodore Marina West Yacht Club founded the Delta Reflections Christmas Lighted Boat Parade over 37 years ago as a way to celebrate the opening of the Christmas season and to raise funds to support local Stockton charitable organizations. Lynn Hahn became the Chairperson of this event in the year 2000 and continued to serve in that capacity until her death in the spring of Since that time, Lynn s son Roger and his girlfriend Susan Bowers have continued to chair this event on behalf of Marina West Yacht Club. In late August of 2018, with the Parade well into the planning stage, Marina West Yacht Club contacted us with a request to assume the reigns of this signature event and to continue the tradition of producing this event. With the support of Commodore Lucy Hamilton and the Stockton Yacht Club s Board of Directors, Marina West transferred the rights to this event to our Club. It was late in the game, but with the support of Roger Hahn and Susan Bowers, I stepped in as Event Chairman and we were successful in producing this event under the Stockton Yacht Club banner for With partnership from the City of Stockton, the Port of Stockton, and other area organizations, individuals and businesses, we were able to register 39 boats and on parade day there were an additional 7 unregistered parade participants. With this great support we were able to present a check to the Children s Home of Stockton in the amount of $1, The people who lined the downtown waterfront were in a joyous spirit as they shouted out Merry Christmas as the boats passed by. I had the good fortune to speak with many of the skippers and some of them told me that they had worked as much as three weeks getting their boat ready for the big event. The judges, too, had a great time and wanted to know if they might be selected as a judge again next year. The competition was divided into two categories, basically big boats and smaller boats. In the under 36 foot category, first place went to Charles and Stacy Daugherty. Second place went to Bob Palmer of Stockton Yacht Club, and third palace was awarded to Brian Sherman of Village West Yacht Club. In the 36 foot and over class, first place went to Jeff and Denise Sonneberger of the Port Stockton and Stockton Ski Club. Second place went to Dick Stevenson of Delta Outlanders and third place was awarded to Roger Hahn. The Grand Marshal s award went to Jeff and Denise Sonneberger. (continued on next page)

!5 AUGUST SYC BULLETIN 2018 (continued from previous page) Stockton Yacht Club received the top recognition for the Club with the most entries having 8 boats in the parade. Village West was second with 5 boats and Ebony Boat Club with 2 entries. There were 18 boats that entered the parade whose owner indicated that they were not affiliated with any club or organization. I would like to express a special thank you to Larry Brown who worked tirelessly to engage local businesses in support of this event. Those who donated cash and prizes had a huge positive impact and helped make this event special. My appreciation goes to: Delta Boat Works, Garlic Brothers, Hollandutch Nursery, Ladd s Marina, M&M Heating and Air Conditioning, Perry s Boat Harbor, West Marine, John & KT Baker, David & Linda Brenninger, Frank & Lynn Gurnee, Schatzie Haws, Donald & Jorja Ivie, Roger & Sheila Kelly, Jack & Mary Lee Michael, and Ed & Bonnie Stetson. And a special thank you to Donald Ivie for making this year s Parade Awards. Next year, with help from our Members, the organizing process will begin in February for the 2019 Parade. In the meantime, I wish you smooth sailing and a very Happy New Year. PICYA Report - Ed Stetson There was no meeting in the month of December.
