1 Cedar Point Cottagers Association Minutes of the Annual Meeting 10:00 AM Sunday July 1, 2018 Present: 24 Members plus 6 Board Members. Michael Cleary affirmed we had a quorum. 1. Opening remarks by the President: Mike Cleary presided and thanked everyone for coming. Thanks to John and Pat for letting us meet at the Dakota. We went around the group and introduced ourselves. Judy Conacher moved to approve the 2017 members of the CPCA Board, 2 nd Judy Gardner. Motion carried. 2. Election of Board members for 2018/2019. All members of the Board are willing to continue in their positions. Pres. Michael Cleary, V.P. Jim Stuart, Treas. Kelly Whittaker, Secretary Kathy Karn, Directors: Jamie Blundell, Jan MacIntyre, John Shelly, Skip Sutherland, Fiona Tingley John Palmer, moved acceptance of Board members, John Lorriman 2 nd. Motion Carried Michael Pearce moved that the board develop a succession plan whereby 1 board member step down each year and 1 new member come forward. There is room for 10 board members. John Palmer 2 nd the motion. Motion carried. Patrick Arkeveld suggested we send out a description of duties. Mike Cleary assured him that the time requirements are minimal. Patrick volunteered to join the board and was warmly accepted. 3. Mayor s report: Invited guest Mayor George Cornell wished us all Happy Canada Day! Councilor Hinton sent his regrets. The mayor outlined several endeavors that the township of Tiny is engaged in such as; water protection, business development, tourism, health care, aggregate mining, new transit system and fiber optic installation. You can find out details about the township business, the official plan and summer events at 1
2 The Beausoleil First Nation has a new council They are planning major rework of the ferry dock. They have been invited to council to present their plans. John Lorriman brought a copy of the plans to the meeting for members to look at. 4. FoTTSA: John Shelly is a member of the Board of FoTTSA and reported on the June FoTTSA meeting. FoTTSA is our umbrella association; they speak to municipal council on behalf of cottage associations. Wind turbines and water levels are not issues currently. FoTTSA is a member of Gravel Watch keeping an eye on aggregate issues in the region. There are 6,000 gravel pits in Ontario. There is concern for French s Hill aquifer in Waverly. Waverly Uplands is the recharging area for all of this area down to Allison. Tiny Township has the most pure water in the world. Dufferin Agregate is looking at a 10 year removal permit within 10 metres of the water table. Tiny Township will have a public meeting about the official plan Wed. July 11 th at Township of Tiny Community Centre, 91 Concession 8 East. You can find this list on the website The Mayor s charity golf tournament and dinner will be held on July 13 th at Brooklea Golf and Country Club. Proceeds go to local charities. Greenbelt coalition has been established to solidify protection of water sources Local event calendar can be found on There is some concern about the local potato fields where a huge amount of watering is being done. There could be a risk to our wells and water table in the future. Poison Ivy John has asked the township to spray from 334 North Shore Dr. up to Melissa Lane. Simcoe county Greenbelt Coalition has asked CPCA to agree to a pledge. After some discussion Mike clearly summarized that it appears we need more information before we can commit to their pledge. Jan MacIntyre will do the water testing for FoTTSA this summer 2
3 5. Treasurer s report: Kelly Whittaker presented the Treasurer s report and reported that there were several disbursements this year. Kelly will send memorial donation for Connie Conacher. Kelly shared a handout for the AGM. Kelly will be at the cocktail party taking dues or you can send her an transfer at kwhittaker@rogers.com. 4 Wind Turbine Funds - initial donations from members totaled $15,300. Approximately $9,000 remained as of June Refunds were distributed in Jamie Blundell presented re the CPCA website The CPCA website is live. First Aid course Mike Cleary asked members to contact Jan MacIntyre jbmacintyre@aol.com if anyone is interested in attending a First Aid course. We need a minimum of 10 people to proceed. The CPCA will fund the course. The course is open to all members and their family. Time: 3 hours. Course Includes: Information take-away package Certificate of Completion Content of the course is personalized to unique concerns of the group but can include how to respond to life-threatening emergencies such as heart attack, stroke, choking, drowning, CPR and AED skills; dealing with weather-based emergencies; first aid skills such as broken bones, poisoning, bleeding, and more. 8. Defibrillator: The CPCA defibrillator is at Mary s Smoke and Variety Store and is available 24/7 Call The following cottagers also have defibrillators: Jan & John MacIntyre Kathy Karn & Michael Pearce Carolyn & Michael Allgeier If you have an emergency: call 911 first, then send for or call the cottagers with defibrillators. All have said they are willing to bring the defibrillator to you. 4
5 9. Annual cocktail party: Jamie Blundell and Tiff Palmer have offed to host the cocktail party Sunday August 5 th 5:00 7:00 at 32 Shoreline Rd. Georgian Bay Gin and Vodka have offered to supply some of their products. 10. Other Business: Group Discounts for propane - Carolyn Allgeier told the group that she and Mike used the Budget Propane for 12 years and the service was very good. The Allgeiers have not had a positive experience with Superior Propane. They would like to return to Budget and need one more person on group list. Cam Gardner and Skip Sutherland have negotiated group propane contracts in the past. Anyone who is interested in group rates for propane should contact Carolyn, Cam and/or Skip to explore options. Sarah Leavens is offering Saturday yoga drop in sessions again at 10:00 am at the Dakota. Bring your yoga mat, all welcome. Fee is $15. The board recommends that Martin Pauze be asked to do regular clean up and trimming around the Cedar Point sign. Approved. Georgian Bay Pops featuring the Slocan Ramblers August 18 th will be held at Frank Morneau s 120 West Shore Dr. Thunder Beach. Proceeds will go to for a new CT scanner at the Midland hospital. Marg Tiffault has noticed suds along the shore on Sundays. She was encouraged to take a water sample to town. New resident Peter Rosteck commented on the poor clipping job along the roadside.
