A special thanks to Larry Morlock, swap meet chairman, and Jane Herbert, kitchen chairperson. I have received communication from MARC Board of Directors and all MARC members, congratulating the Columbus Region on the milestone of being a MARC Region for 50 plus years. They also sent us a certificate of recognition. I also received another communication from MARC Board of Directors for our newsletter, Going Places. They also sent a certificate of appreciation to Susan Riss for her outstanding job as Editor.
2 What is it? Last Month. It is an aftermarket item for attaching your license plate to the automobile. Reminder: This is a reminder for our Model A club that there is no membership meeting in June, July or August. The next meeting will be in September. Since touring season has started, we need the information from the tour leaders for the upcoming tours, June through September, so we can add them to our newsletter. Tours June 5 Lawrenceburg Flea Market (Bridges) Seymour McDonald s (junction of 50 & 31) at 9:00 on June 5, Pick up North Vernon around 9:30. Continue on to Antique/Flea market in Lawrenceburg. Rex Bridges June 11 Columbus Municipal Airport Aviation Day and Car Show (Morlock) The Columbus Airport is having an Aviation Day Saturday, June 11, and will have a car show as part of the event. Registration for the car show will be 8:00-11:00am and costs $10, but we have been invited to display our cars in front of the Atterbury-Bakalar Museum, so there will be no charge if you choose to do this. There are many activities, including a Super Stearman Wing Walking performance, food vendors, bounce houses, and educational activities. Admission: free. June 11 Old round barn tour (Tim Howell) June Clay City Pottery Festival (on your own) June 19 Happy Father's Day June MAFCA National Meet Phil will be contacting those planning to attend this meet. If you don t hear from him, contact him to confirm details. June 26-July 1 MARC National Meet (Morlock) For those people going to the MARC National Meet, we will leave Eastbrook Plaza in Columbus at 8:00am, Sunday, June 26. We will follow IN- 46 to Greensburg, then north on IN-3 to Rushville, east on IN-44 which turns into OH- 725, then north on US-127, then US-24 to Perrysburg. We will return on Saturday, July 2. July 4 4 th of July parade and dinner at Winkler's barn in Rushville (Winkler, Lawson) Contact Ronnie Lawson (812) RSVP for details if you plan to attend.
3 July 16 Picnic at Brown County Park (Alexander, Sutton, Lawson) Join us at our annual Brown County picnic at the Brown County State Park. Follow the yellow signs and balloons to the Walnut Shelter. Bring your favorite covered dish, either a side dish or a dessert. The club will provide meat and drinks. We will eat at 1:00. Bring folding chairs for your comfort. Be sure to call Gerald or Lyn Alexander by the 9th at (812) unless you have already. July Scott County MaterFest (on your own) August 4-7 Pioneer Engineers, Steam Engines 3707 S 200 W, Rushville, IN (On your own) August 6-7 Keck-Gonnerman Steam Show Saturday & Sunday, Aug 6-7 (Morlock, Sutton) This will be an overnight to Mt. Vernon, IN, to attend the annual Keck-Gonnerman Steam Meet. It will feature a working blacksmith shop, antique tractor and steam engine exhibition, tractor pull, quilt show, and "Thresherman's Dinner" among other things. Keck-Gonnerman manufactured steam engines and threshers in Mt. Vernon from 1873 to the mid-1950's. We will drive down to Mt. Vernon on Saturday morning, partake of the Thresherman s dinner, and spend the afternoon at the steam meet. On Sunday morning we will do some local touring around Mt. Vernon and New Harmony, then head back home. Accommodations will be at the Four Seasons motel in Mt. Vernon. Rates are $89 for a single, $99 for a double with one bed, $109 for a double with two beds. Let Larry or Phil know by July 15 if you plan to go and which type of room you need. Let us know sooner if you can. August 8-11 Grand Indiana Auto Tour, Madison IN (Randy Hughey) Rear View Mirror May 7 Tri-Club Garage Tour (Lawson) This tour included Randy Hughey and Carl Johnson s car collections, and was attended by 17 Club members who drove their Model A s and vintage cars. The tour was originally intended to also visit Tom Bruce and his car collection, but this was not possible because Tom had recently been injured and incapable of being a host.
