May we all take the time to reflect in an appropriate manner, whether this is by attending the dawn service, enjoying a drink with mates or spending some quality time with your families. ANZAC Day is a day we remember Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. The spirit of ANZAC, with its human qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. The Wagga RSL Club invites you to share this momentous day with your family and friends at our club. Feel free to join us for a traditional breakfast from 7am or the ANZAC Sunset Service at 5.30pm. 4 TIME TO REMEMBER! Jerry Allen Pearce was well know in the RSL Snooker world and was the President of the RSL Snooker club for a number of years. Unfortunately Jerry passed away three years ago so to remember this great man the current President Nickalous Kaletta and his mates held a snooker tournament over the weekend on the 23rd and 24th of March. Approximately 20 players joined in the fun and reminisced about their good friend while enjoying the game he loved most. AUSTRALIAN SPIRIT REGIONAL NSW TOURING ART & POETRY EXHIBITION The Central Coast Art Studios Co-operative proudly presents the compelling Australian Spirit exhibition of visual art and poetry commemorating the ANZAC and WW1 Centenaries and our returned service personnel. Our objective is to raise public awareness and support for the service and sacrifice of returned service personnel & their families, explains artist Leasha Craig, and inspire artists and poets across Australia to emulate this concept in support of their local veterans. The four-year project commenced in 2015, incorporating successful exhibitions across the Central Coast with visual arts including paintings, drawings, mixed media, photography, digital works and sculpture. It has an accompanying book that showcases the diverse art, poetry, and also brief biographies of the 76 local veterans whose stories inspired these creations. 6 ENJOY YOUR CLUBS APRIL 2018 URDAY 7TH 1ST URDAY OF THE TH IS RAAF APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME'S 70TH ANNIVERSARY WANT TO BE BOWLED OVER? NSW BOWLS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR FINALIST Between 1948 and 1993 over 5000 fifteen to seventeen year old boys were trained at Forest Hill in various RAAF trades. Many Wagga people may remember the young boys walking the CBD in RAAF uniform with the blue band around their hats and, in earlier years, a blue triangle on their sleeves. To commemorate this anniversary a reunion is being held in Wagga over the ANZAC week. It is anticipated that there may be up to 400 former apprentices attending various functions including the dawn services and the ANZAC march. The Bowling Club are putting on a Come and Try Day from 9.30am to 12 noon finishing with a free sausage sizzle. Men and women are all welcome and coaches will be available to assist you. There will be no charge and all the equipment you need will be supplied. Please wear flat sole shoes or bare feet. Come to the RSL Club on Saturday April 14 and find out about lawn bowls and discover what a great game it is. Congratulations to Jack Whyte who was a finalist for the Bowls NSW Volunteer of the Year Award. Since 2010, Jack has raised approximately $25,000 for the children's wards at Wagga Base Hospital. Alongside running a BBQ every month, and organising pies for weekly fundraising, Jack organises PR and media coverage for the Wagga RSL Bowling Club through contacting local businesses regularly and always making himself available for duties within the club. One such Club we have had a long-standing relationship with is the Coolamon Rovers Football and Netball Club. Our sponsorship contributes to the general running costs associated with managing a sporting club, namely paying for umpires, association fees, uniforms and game day awards for both the junior and senior teams. With a proactive board and the recruitment team attracting some outstanding senior recruits, Club President Derek Owens said the Club is in a strong position coming into 2018 both on and off the field.
