1 WAGGA RSL AND COMMERCIAL CLUB THLY NEWSLETTER PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE I hope you are enjoying the festive season and sharing some memorable time with your family and friends. I would like to thank all the members and visitors who have supported our club during the past 12 months. Clubs can only survive and continue to assist their communities if they experience good patronage and thanks to all of you we continue to achieve this goal. Our clubs recorded a massive 334,602 visits and with a membership of 23,324 the Wagga RSL and Commercial Club is an integral part of the Wagga community. Your support has allowed us to donate more than $450,000 to our community in the last 12 months. This has included free room hire to many charities, the free use of our courtesy bus and the Kids Club, immaculate bowling greens and countless organisations across the Riverina who have received monetary assistance. Your club supported 135 community groups during Between the two clubs and the Motel we employ a staff of 116. Our clubs have two cafés and three restaurants on offer to members. We would like to thank Mat and Lauren Oates and their team who continue to provide exceptional dining experiences at both clubs and also special mention to Alan & Ivy from Pearl Chinese on another successful year. We are excited about what these eateries will have to offer you in The RSL Motel and Apartments celebrated its 15th birthday in November and it continues to be a solid operation thanks to our managers Brendan and Bronwyne and their staff. The two luxuriously appointed two-bedroom apartments offer the ultimate in comfort, space and privacy for families and groups of up to 12 and are ideal for short and long term stays. A special thanks to every staff member and my fellow board members. You all bring different expertise and experience which is of great benefit to our club. Congratulations to RSL NSW which celebrated it's centenary this year and special thanks to the Wagga RSL Sub-branch who continue to work hard to provide for the wellbeing of serving and ex serving Defence force personnel and their dependants saw the completion of major renovations at the RSL Club incorporating a new coffee shop to Dine Bistro and a new main bar and lounge area. This has had a positive impact on our patronage and has been very well received by both members and visitors to our club. I encourage you to come and check it out if you have not yet done so. We are looking forward to carrying out more works in February to our gaming area at the RSL which will complete the top floor stage of renovations for the moment. BOWLERS SUPPORT WAGGA REFERRAL HOSPITAL CHILDREN'S WARD On the 14th of December, Wagga RSL Men's Bowling Club kindly donated $4,210 to the Wagga Referral Hospital Children's Ward. The generous donation was the largest amount raised to date and was collected through a number of fundraising efforts including raffles and bbqs over the last 12 months. Show your membership card for local discounts at more than 90 Wagga stores. Your 2017 membership card has the Rewards Club logo on it to receive the discounts. 3 ENJOY YOUR CLUBS SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT Hit the Deck is back again with live entertainment for the summer months. There's no better place to be than sitting out on the gorgeous deck at the Commercial Club on these summer evenings. Enjoy live music by great local talent including Mollie Waters and Jarryn Phegan. Also a massive congrats to Lea-Anne, Di and Kay on 20 years of service to the Wagga RSL Club. These staff have all been an integral part of our team and we thank them for their loyalty and dedication to our club and our members. A special congratulations also goes to Lea-Anne McNair who won staff member of the year for Lea-Anne has gone above and beyond in her role as Functions Co-ordinator making sure every event is delivered to a high standard. Lea-Anne s passion and commitment is evident and she is a valued and respected member of our team. The RSL and Commercial Club have contributed to many charities and not for profit organisations throughout the years, one such organisation that we have built a long lasting relationship with is Willan s Hill School. In 2017 we are continuing our support with two primary initiatives, the Carers Relief Program and a Steer Auction. The Carers Relief Program offers the carers of children with special needs a chance to have a much deserved break, whether it is dinner out or a night away, the Club will offer the financial support required. The steer auction has long been established as a fantastic fund raising event with proceeds being invested in many different facets of the school's operation. Along with these two initiatives the Club enjoys supporting the school in many other ways, especially hosting their Year 12 graduation every year. We look forward to supporting this worthy organisation in the new year and many more years to come.
