2 ... FROM THE PRESIDENT: JUNE 19 PRIDE OF WORKMANSHIP AWARDS One of our simplest and most worthwhile programs is our Pride of Workmanship Awards. The Awards reflect well on important members of our community, on our Club and on Rotary. These Awards are made each year by our Club to worthy individuals chosen by Club members for their outstanding contribution to a business/their workplace through 'a job well done'. The Awards are to individuals whose achievements are often not formerly otherwise recognised. Guidelines: 1. The emphasis is upon the theme: a) "Do it once, Do it well - Build a better Australia", b) Go the extra mile 2. The Pride of Workmanship Award is designed to acknowledge an individual, irrespective of age or vocation, who, in the eyes of the public and his or her employer, displays outstanding qualities in terms of approach, attitude, dedication and commitment, to his or her vocation. 3. The Award is intended to cover all aspects of work performance and ethics, inclusive of quality, efficiency, public relations, safety, initiative, sense of responsibility, etc. The Awardees of the Pride of Workmanship Award for 2009 which was held last Friday were: Name / Position / Employer / Nominator(s) Caterina Georgiou / Personal Assistant/Secretary / Paul Ward-Harvey & Co / Paul Ward-Harvey Paul Goulding / Fitness Professional / Exclusive Personal Training / Meg Campbell-Dowling Thomas Meany / Customer Service Attendant / RailCorp / Peter Welch, Alan Tait, Margaret Silink, David Scarlett Diane Morgan / Company Director / Total Woman / Meg Campbell-Dowling Andrew Packness / National Service BDM / KONE Elevators / Meg Campbell-Dowling Sonika Singh / Administrative Assistant / Inst.of Public Works, Eng. 3 Rebecca Webster / Architectural, Interior Designer / Rebecca Webster Design / Suzanne Campbell: And a big thank you to Joy Evans and Meg Campbell-Dowling for organising another very successful Awards function so efficiently. "Do it once, Do it well, Build a better Australia" Tom Gervay CELEBRATE This week we are proud to celebrate the award of the Order of Australia to our members, Robert Ritchie Bruce and William John Little, in recognition of their service to the community, particularly through the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove Charity Regatta. It's a well deserved honour to Bob and Bill and a wonderful reflection on our Club and on Rotary. Congratulations Bob and Bill. Tom Gervay STREET SOCCER UPDATE: JUNE 19 by Denis Smith The club has invited Eduardo Correa (new coach), Marcus Prentice (street soccer goalie extraordinaire) and Adel Tashkin (NSW vendor support) to give a short talk this friday 19 June to bring the club up to date on the homeless street soccer, and the up coming national titles in Brisbane. Denis Smith, Homeless Street Soccer Rotary Coordinator CHARITY REGATTA BENEFICIARY: JUNE 19 by Bill Little Subject: Solas We intend to establish Solas as a Regatta beneficiary. Solas is the charitable trust established by the CYCA following the disastrous 1998 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. We consider this to be a vital part of our Regatta strategy going forward in that it will further cement the already excellent relationship we have with the yachting fraternity and the CYCA. We have presented a letter of intent to CYCA Commodore Matt Allan and Chief Executive Officer, Mark Woolf.
4 Solas will be presented with a donation of $10,000 from last year's Regatta at our meeting on Friday 19 June. Recipients will be CYCA Commodore, Matt Allan and one or two other CYCA dignitaries. From The M&A... Your M@A was gazumped by the younger, prettier & cleverer Ilona who certainly demonstrated how much she has gained from her year as our exchange student. Not only did she empty lots of pockets with her humour and her insight into Aussie humour but revealed the affection she and her fellow exchange students in our District have developed for this wide brown land. The very fact they wanted to fund a ShelterBox for victims of disaster showed the community spirit of Rotary and the "Service above Self" ethos have been absorbed by Ilona and her mates and we should all be very proud of them. Your M@A now has little time remaining on the clock before "pumpkin time"
6 strikes and therefore all or any "dirt" would be welcome for a swingeing swansong of fines. What a chance to stab backs, settle scores and put down fellow Rotarians. Dig deep for dirt Coves!!!!
