The sausage and spaghetti dinner was delicious. The auctioneer (Mark Mirabito) made it fun for those that attended to help sponsor the club s children s party. If you want to help with the children s Christmas party let Marta Carney know. She has been handling that function for the club for the past few years. I m sure she could use the help setting up the decorations and the hall for that event. It will be held the same day as the election for the club officers December 2 nd. The club s regatta committee is planning a closing night on October 27 th if we get enough participation from the membership. The signup sheet is on the door of the club. The club is about to gear up for winterizing the floats and club. All the probationary members that owe work hours should take notice because the bills for those hours are about to go out. That goes for the regular members too; every one has a mandatory eight hours work to help the club or they will be billed. The watches are going and the schedule for them is in the newsletter, and on the bulletin board. If you can t make your watch you need to get somebody to do it for you or pay a fine of $ for missing your watch. Remember the dues, float fee, and the locker fee is due November 30 th. The rules are very specific about payment to the club. You will forfeit your float or locker and your membership if you do not pay your dues and fees on time. Well, as always, please be careful coming and going from the club.

2 page 2 Dorchester Yacht Club - Board of Directors Monthly Meeting October 4, 2012 Officers present: Paul Polito, Dan Campbell, Bill Rizzi, Marty Cahill, Steve Cavanaugh Directors present: Jack Donegan, Bob Mirabito, Ray Tomasini, Rui Vieira Chairmen present: Bob Bailey, Al Chouinard, David Greenwood, Greg Bedrosian absent: no one The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Paul Polito. Two applicants for membership came before the board. Salvatore Lando and Walter Patstone. Treasurer s Report: Marty handed out a written treasurer s report. Marty asked if we were square with Trask Hall. Dave said we should be but we need the third-party inspection and the final permits from the state fire marshal. Correspondence: Steve said he had been in touch with Tom Beaulieu and Kevin of Division of Marine Fisheries. House: The television in the members room was replaced because the old one had a power board go bad. Dave authorized replacement of a new TV. The BOD approved buying an extended warranty. Dave received a bill for the extra work from Jeff Lake at Sea and Shore. The cost of the extra cost of materials is $13, The extra labor charged is $13, This extra labor cost is what Dave objects to. The lateness of the start, the interruption of the work, etc. is also part of our objection. The substitution of scab pieces instead of full lengths of wood is also objected to. Ray summarized the situation by noting the facts about the work that had been done, what our conflicts. The Board plans to call a meeting with the owner of Sea & Shore and Jeff Lake with David, Ray and Steve to go over the issue, get everything understood, and see about an abatement of some of the charges before we pay. Ideally the meeting will be in the coming week. Inboard Floats: Some boats are starting to leave. Al has heard from some of the winter storage, and would like the notice about winter storage put in the next newsletter. Outboard: Bob would like to have a log that came from the house (or from the bridge) near his floats. He d like someone to tow it to the shore so it can be cut up and disposed of. Regatta: Junk Sale next week (Oct 13th) at 12:30 pm. Greg needs some sellable junk. On the 27th will be the Closing Night with a steak dinner and live music, and he needs people to sign up by the 20th. Permitting: No report. Safety: No report. Unfinished Business: Dan Campbell said that according to his research a decent security camera (without pan and tilt) is $ Ray did look into getting new lights via NStar, which was going to be a large expense. He then went to the city, and 4 lights were replaced with LED lighting. It seems to be much brighter, and Ray doesn t think we need any more lighting in the parking lot. New Business: Dave wondered if there is some way we can induce Marty to stay on as treasurer. The basic issue is the nights of the meeting. The BOD is agreed that we could move the BOD meeting to the Wednesday before the first Thursday of the month. Marty would then continue to come once/month to the Thursday members meeting. Marty is willing to work with this arrangement. The meeting was adjourned at 7:39 p.m. General Membership Meeting of the Dorchester Yacht Club Thursday, October 11, 2012 Officers present: Paul Polito, Dan Campbell, Bill Rizzi, Marty Cahill, Steve Cavanaugh Directors present: Ray Tomasini, Jack Donegan

3 page 3 Chairmen present: Rui Vieira, Bob Mirabito, Dave Greenwood, Greg Bedrosian, Bob Bailey, Al Chouinard absent: Paul Polito called the meeting to order at: 7:34 p.m. We welcomed a new member Walter Patstone. Another new member, Sal Lando also is coming in as a new member, he paid his dues and orientation fee earlier in the week. Minutes: Steve read out the minutes for the September Members meeting and the October Board of Directors meeting. Minutes were approved as read. Treasurer s Report: Marty He did read out the following balances for our accounts: Dredging: $45, Checking: $172, Correspondence: None. House Committee: Nothing to report. Inboard Float Committee: Boats are starting to leave. I expect that we will have 8-9 boats in for winter storage. Do not delay getting set with Al if you want winter storage. Nothing to report on the moorings. one-year permits are not expected to rise. Nothing is known about the multi-year leases. Wally picked up the 100% booster plaque. There s a survey being taken by the National Boating Assoc which was mailed to select boaters. Next meeting will be at Savin Hill YC, and the speaker will talk about yacht club insurance. Unfinished Business: Bernie Feeney asked if we purchased marine-grade gasoline. Our company that we buy gas from tested the gas about 3 weeks ago. We have approx gallons of 89 octane gas in the tank. Hall & Trask did a test of the gas also, and there is no problem with it. A question about progress in the dreding project was raised. Ray Tomasini has a meeting with our engineer, Jack Hannon, later this month. There was a discussion about what was needed, such as the soil samples; we are still hoping to share the samples taken by UMass/Boston. Paul Phalan suggested the membership try harder to turn off unneeded lights and turn the heat down to reduce our energy expenditures. New Business: No new business. Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. Outboard Float Committee: Bob didn t have anything special. Bob will need people in the first week of November to close up the water, put in bubblers. Regatta Committee: Junk sale Saturday: Spaghetti dinner at 12:30, followed by the junk sale; proceeds go to the Christmas Party. Hoss said he needs people to sign up for the Closing Night by the 20th of this month; if he doesn t have enough people. Permitting Officer: Dave reports all the permits for the tank are in, except the state fire marshal s permit to sell fuel. It was the state marshal that gave us a shutoff notice. Dave said we need a permit officer who will keep on top of things. It is an important position. If permits are not in place, we could have the clubhouse closed. Safety Officer: No report. MBYCA Report: Last meeting was in Saugus, an excellent meal (full-course) was served.
