Our first club run is taking place on Sunday 7 th January so if you haven t booked yet then this is the last chance to do so if you would like to go on this one then get in touch with me exeter.mgoc.secretary@gmail.com or you can phone me on or Roger & Pat s run on 17 th December was well attended and if you didn t go we met at Exeter Moto services and made our way to Dingles Steam Fair near Okehampton I think everyone enjoyed the day as it was something different and I think that most people took part in the dodgem cars apart from 4 of us as we went to have lunch in the cafe at 1 o clock to be ready for 2o clock at the dodgems but at 1.30 our food hadn t arrived as they were very busy and forgot our order so we missed the ride but never mind, we will have to do it again at some point, but thanks to Roger & Pat for organising everything. Now is the time to start looking in the Enjoying MG magazine to see what other club runs are taking place so get your pens and entry forms ready to fill in and please share with other members if you book to go away and you may get others to join you. 7 Unfortunately, partly due to Bank Holidays and partly due to other commitments, the Bob & Lorraine Run in March will not now be happening. If you would like to volunteer to take on March then please contact Derrick. Many thanks and apologies. As you can see we have a very full calendar of events already planned for you and there may well be additions made to this list as time goes on. If you wish to volunteer to organise a Club Run then please contact Roger Mayo. Make sure you plan well ahead which events you would like to join in with and contact the Events Coordinator, Roger Mayo, for any further details and read this Diary of Events for any possible changes, cancellations or add ons. The monthly raffle on club nights are very important to our club so, if you have any items you wish to donate as prizes, please hand them to the Social Secretary, Stuart Sinclair, or any member of the Committee. 9 I ll say no more except we will probably be booking the same place next year, all being well and subject to your approval of course. Here are some comments that we received by afterwards:- Thanks for a super evening - lovely room and super menu and wines, all excellent and the company as good as always!! Loved being in a separate room to the dance floor and the music as it allowed us to have good natters with everyone. We personally thought it was the best venue we had been to with the Club. Thank you for that - Yes, smashing evening! Very nice! Thanks to you all for welcoming us! It was so nice to eventually put faces to names! Hopefully we and our MGF will be able to get involved more in Club activities in the coming year.

10 Exeter MGOC Presents Moor 2 Sea 2018 Our annual Moor 2 Sea event will take place this year on Sunday 27 th May and will take you through some of the great beauty spots of glorious Devonshire. Start & Finish at Dainton Park, Newton Abbot Entry 28, to include morning coffee and afternoon cream tea Exeter MGOC Moor 2 Sea 27 th May 2018 Exeter MGOC presents its 29 th annual event Moor 2 Sea event starting and finishing at Dainton Park Golf Centre near Newton Abbott. Why not come along to this West Country adventure designed for you and your MG, which will take place on Sunday 27 th May As usual this is the bank holiday weekend, so why not make it a mini holiday and join us. The cost will be 28 per car to include refreshments at the start and finish, rally board and route book. 12 Holiday News If you have never been away in your MG before and you quite fancy venturing away but are not quite sure about it then it is a good idea to go as part of a club group, and lots of fun too. Have a chat with one of the committee about choosing a weekend away in another region and joining in their big run. Our longtime member (and Lifetime President) Roger Luscombe tells me I have a Brittany Ferries club membership that gives me a discount on fares etc and if you are booking on Brittany online, you too can go to the Member section of Club Voyage, click on Guest of Member and my code F64434 and a discount will be automatically applied Try it, it works. Thank you Roger. WARNERS HOLIDAY WEEKEND 2018 Some of you may already know that we have regularly been to Warners Spring Holiday with East Sussex MG Owners Club. Barrie Weller, their Organiser, has again been in touch with us about joining them next year for the weekend of April 20 th. The weekend will be at Holm Lacey, Herefordshire, the cost will be about 245 pp for 3 nights Dinner B&B & entertainment each night (see Warners website for details picture of the hotel is on the right) We (Roger & Pat) have booked for this. Drive coast road west to 4* hotel in Ribadesella (approx 100 miles) price for double room B&B = 70 / 65 per night for 2. 7 nights in Ribadesella Day 9: Mon 15th October - depart Ribadesella & drive east to Santillana del Mar (60 miles) to 4* Gil Blas Parador hotel for 2 nights. Plenty of time to explore this famous, ancient & historic town Day 11: Weds 17th October depart Santillana del Mar & drive east to Santander (20 miles) to board cruise ferry Pont (9.15pm) fare 209 per car + overnight double cabin approx 100 Day 12: Thurs 18th Oct - arrive 20.45/8.45pm at Plymouth That little lot adds up to the best part of 1200 for 2 people, but on top of that there will be the cost of fuel for yourself & car: petrol, & meals (breakfast is not always included) drinks & incidentals, shopping, tourist attractions with entry fees & possible car-parking charges, etc. You must bear these extra expenses in mind & budget for them!! 14 Roger s Technical Tip Don't Spoil the Oil I have just done a routine oil change on the B & you may or may not know there are 2 basic types of spin on oil filters, non-return & return. On an MGB the oil filter is screwed on upside down & I would suggest, when replacing the oil filter, you get the non-return type. This will hold the oil in the filter while the engine is not running, so, on starting the engine, the oil pressure gauge should start reading immediately. The return type will allow the filter to empty back to the sump. On starting the engine, there will be a short delay whilst the filter refills before reaching the engine. This period may even be accompanied by a slight rattling noise until the oil gauge reads the pressure. You can tell if the oil filter is the non-return type by feeling a diaphragm just inside the filter as indicated in the picture. Happy Motoring. He stays like that for half an hour. Then, a big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand seeing a man crying."

The cab driver just drives away. I go home and when I get there, I find my wife sleeping with the gardener. I leave home and come to this bar. And when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison." Boom boom! A New Year s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. My new year s resolution is to be more optimistic by keeping my cup half-full with gin, rum, vodka, or whisky. My New Year s resolution is to stop hanging out with people who ask me about my New Year s resolutions. I have only one resolution: To rediscover the difference between wants and needs. God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, The good fortune to run into the ones that I do, And the eyesight to tell the difference. John, at a New Year's party, turns to his friend, Dave, and asks for a cigarette. I thought you made a New Year's resolution and that you won t smoke Dave says. I'm in the process of quitting, replies John with a grin. I am in the middle of phase one. Phase one? asks David. Yes, says John, I've stopped buying.
