The region is supporting development through construction, pre-assembly, installation and the new growing industry of operations and maintenance (O&M). 4 CASE STUDIES James Fisher Marine Services From occupying a single office in Lowestoft s OrbisEnergy renewables hub just two years ago, James Fisher Marine Services has developed into one of the region s most influential offshore service providers. The company has become James Fisher Group s principal focus for integrated marine consultancy, contracting and support services in the local area. In February 2017, after rapid growth in marine projects, subsea and services, JFMS moved into a prominent disused office building and workshops in Lowestoft, regenerating important industrial infrastructure and establishing itself as a strong local employer. Its 25m marine support contract for the 1.5bn Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is creating more than 100 jobs at the operational base where it prepares transit facilities for the wind farm, organises crew transfer and supplies and manages multi-support vessels to and from the site. Martin Dronfield, Commercial Director, said: JFMS is proud to be part of a sustainable future delivered through collaboration, innovation and a skilled local workforce. The great thing about Lowestoft port is that it is ready to go as a base saving us time and money which makes projects competitive. As more and more projects get built offshore the capability in and around ports like Lowestoft increases so that we don t need to worry about getting the right infrastructure, services and people when we need them. Set up 10 years ago, providing services to the oil, gas and marine industries, more than 90% of its work today is renewables, with more than 400 personnel working all over the world. Its growth came after acquiring wind turbine installation and maintenance leader Dawson Energy in 2010, later aided by a 10m investment from London-based Business Growth Fund (BGF) following six years of consistent growth. 3sun Group has invested heavily in shaping skills for the future of the industry with its 3sun Academy and preapprenticeship programme. Its team is providing local content for the Galloper Offshore Wind Farm, assembling its 56 6MW Siemens.

Tidal Transit Since acquiring its first crew transfer vessel in 2011, Tidal Transit has evolved into a successful support business for offshore wind farms. The company now has a staff of 42, four CTVs, a survey boat, and manages the game-changing WaveCraft Surface Effect Ship Umo Firmus. Tidal Transit vessels have serviced numerous UK offshore wind farms, and its two further contracts at Innogy s Gwynt y Mor site should keep its vessels on site until the 2020s. An industry first came from Umo Firmus, which is saving 3 hours transit a day on the Gemini Wind Farm in the German North Sea. Commercial Director Leo Hambro said: The next six years will see tremendous growth in consented and to-be-consented wind farms. Offshore wind is already producing so much power, and with Dong s announcement of its first subsidy-free bid, I believe that offshore wind energy is the future. What has been achieved in renewables in the East of England in places that have been crying out for new business and investment is really striking.
