2 MESSAGE FROM THE CEO 行政總裁的話 I am thrilled that Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has recently been inducted into the Travel Hall of Fame of the TTG Travel Awards for being voted the Best Airport by the travel industry 10 consecutive times since TTG s print and online publications are an important read for industry players to stay abreast of pertinent trends and insights spanning the leisure trade, luxury and corporate travel, and MICE. Receiving this prestigious award from our peers is particularly meaningful for us, and there is no greater gift to celebrate HKIA s 15th anniversary than accolades recognising the persistent efforts and services of the airport community. This honour certainly belongs to the 65,000-strong workforce at HKIA. Their professionalism and dedication throughout the years have helped the airport foster an inherent culture of excellence whether in customer service, safety, efficiency and so forth which form a total airport experience. While this is a cause for celebration, we should aim to raise the bar on our service standards even higher. In October, for example, we rolled out the Smiles at the Airport campaign consisting of a wide range of activities involving both the airport community and the general public. As varied as the activities are, they all boil down to one basic principle simple gestures such as a smile can go a long way in making passengers feel at home at HKIA. Through this campaign, we hope service providers at HKIA can always put themselves in travellers shoes and offer their best service at all times. At our airport, not only do we want our passengers to be delighted, we also strive to help them stay healthy too. This is why we have supported the meat-free diet campaign at the airport in conjunction with Green Monday, an organisation promoting a green lifestyle, together with the support of almost 60 food and beverage partners and lounges at HKIA. Starting in October, these outlets have offered vegetarian dishes as a green and healthy alternative to meat at least once a week. 3 COVER STORY 封面故事 From Page 1 A HALL OF FAME PERFORMANCE 榮登 旅遊名人堂 Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) once again strengthened its status as one of the world s best airports, underscored by its recent induction into the Travel Hall of Fame at the TTG Travel Awards. For establishing a sterling record of being crowned the Best Airport 10 times since 2002, HKIA earned its place among elite companies alongside a roster of exceptional organisations. Inaugurated in 2002, the TTG Travel Hall of Fame comprises organisations recognised by TTG who have firmly established themselves as the unsurpassed leader in their respective fields upon winning the same award at least 10 consecutive times. HKIA s induction serves as a shining testament to the collaborative efforts and dedication of the airport community in consistently striving for excellence in providing an enjoyable passenger experience over the past decade. The TTG Travel Awards are widely considered to be one of the most reputable and influential accolades in the Asia Pacific travel industry. Awardees are determined through votes cast by astute readers of TTG Travel Trade Publishing s print and online publications, including TTG Asia, TTG China, TTG India, TTGmice, TTG-BTmice China and TTG Asia Luxury. During the recent TTG Travel Awards presentation ceremony held in Bangkok on 3 October, Airport Authority (AA) Executive Director, Airport Operations C K Ng received the milestone award honouring HKIA s remarkable achievement on behalf of the AA. Further underpinning its solid reputation with travellers from around the world, HKIA was ranked among Agoda.com s list of Asia s Best Airports. The hotel booking website s survey of airports across 15 major Asian cities accorded HKIA a rating of 4.13 out of 5, in which the convenient transit links and impressive high-tech architectural design of HKIA are highlighted. Adding to its credentials, HKIA was also selected as one of the top 10 airports worldwide in Smart Travel Asia s Best in Travel Poll 2013 by readers of the online travel magazine. Over the years, HKIA has been crowned the best airport 55 times. Airport Authority (AA) CEO Stanley Hui and other senior management were delighted to exchange cordial greetings with Boris Johnson upon his arrival. AA Deputy Director, Projects Kevin Poole also took the opportunity to brief the Mayor on the future development plans of the airport. During the visit on 7 September, 45 residents from Shatin Royal Ascot were briefed on the overview, future development and various green initiatives of HKIA, followed by a tour of the Skydeck, Integrated Airport Centre, Baggage Handling System and airfield operations. Separately, 22 members from the Owners Committees of Tung Chung Crescent and Coastal Skyline had a fruitful experience during their tour of HKIA on 14 September. On 28 August, AA CEO Stanley Hui visited Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA), a key partner of HKIA since 2003, to meet with their top management including Chairman Li De-run and President Jing Yi-ming. During the meeting, both parties commended their first phase cooperation in 2009 to 2013 and consensus was made on the development strategies to further enhance the second phase cooperation from 2014 to Afterwards, Hui also met former SAA Chairman Wu Nian-zu and former General Manager Sun Li and expressed his gratitude to their substantial contributions to the joint venture while sincerely wishing them a happy retirement. INFRASTRUCTURE INSIGHTS 基建發展前瞻 On 14 September, the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors Annual Conference brought together housing and construction professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities arising from infrastructure and property development in Hong Kong. The event entitled Evolving Hong Kong Infrastructure & Property Development also served as a platform for a fruitful exchange of experiences and views among industry stakeholders. As a vital part of Hong Kong s infrastructure, HKIA s importance to the city was emphasised by AA Deputy Director, Projects Kevin Poole as he shared the medium- and long-term developments of HKIA and its potential contributions to Hong Kong s future. 香港測量師學會於 9 月 14 日舉行周年研討會 這次活動以 蛻變中的香港 : 基建及物業發展 為主題, 讓來自房屋及建造業界的專業人士, 共同就香港基建及物業發展帶來的挑戰及機遇進行討論, 而參加的業界持份者亦藉着這個研討會作平台, 分享經驗及交流意見 在會上, 機管局建築工程副總監潘嘉宏介紹了香港國際機場的中長期發展, 以及機場對香港未來帶來的潛在貢獻 他強調機場是香港基建中舉足輕重的一部分 香港國際機場多年來致力與內地航空業加強聯繫 自 2003 年以來, 上海機場集團一直是香港國際機場的重要合作夥伴 機管局行政總裁許漢忠於 8 月 28 日到訪上海機場集團, 與其高級管理人員會面, 包括董事長李德潤及總裁景逸鳴 在會議上, 雙方肯定在 2009 年至 2013 年第一階段的合作成果, 並就 2014 年至 2017 年第二階段的發展策略達成共識, 以進一步深化合作 隨後, 許漢忠亦會見上海機場集團前任董事長吳念祖及前任總經理孫立, 感謝他們對滬港機場合作作出重大貢獻, 並衷心祝願他們退休後生活愉快 NORTH LANTAU HOSPITAL ON STANDBY 北大嶼山醫院投入服務 The North Lantau Hospital launched its first phase of operations on 24 September to meet the demand arising from Lantau s growing population and number of tourists. Located within HKIA s proximity, the seven-storey facility became the first hospital established in Tung Chung. The first phase involved the commencement of accident and emergency services available to patients for eight hours daily from 9am to 5pm, as well as some allied health and outreach services, followed by the launch of general and specialist outpatient services on 30 September. The hospital s wards will be in service in later phases. Bright and tranquil, the hospital is designed to provide patients with an ideal environment for rehabilitation. With resources on hand to offer urgent treatment on site as well as receiving minor injury cases, North Lantau Hospital now serves as one of the important partners in case of any emergency at HKIA. 北大嶼山醫院於 9 月 24 日展開第一階段運作, 應付大嶼山不斷增長的人口及旅客量 北大嶼山醫院鄰近機場, 樓高七層, 是東涌區內首間醫院 醫院開始首階段運作, 每日上午 9 時至下午 5 時提供八小時急症室服務, 同時提供一些專職醫療及外展服務 普通科及專科門診其後於 9 月 30 日投入服務 北大嶼山醫院將於往後階段提供住院服務 醫院設計景觀開揚 寧靜舒適, 讓病人能在理想的環境下休養 醫院現有的資源, 可提供即時緊急治療並接收輕傷者, 是機場發生緊急事故時提供救援的重要夥伴之一 5

6 NEWS & EVENTS 每月要聞 SAY IT WITH A SMILE Sometimes a simple smile is all it takes to create a lasting impression, especially for passengers visiting Hong Kong for the first time. A friendly gesture and a warm smile can help them feel at home. To foster a welcoming environment at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the Airport Authority (AA) launched the Smiles at the Airport campaign running from 11 October to 6 November featuring several customer service-focused events and activities. The campaign kick-started with a series of training workshops on customer service that served as a refresher course designed to enhance the airport staff s customer service awareness, develop their service techniques and affirm the positive impact of smiles. During each of the eight workshops, seasoned trainers demonstrated how to deliver smile techniques and explained how a smile can convey a positive image to passengers. The workshops also allowed participants to learn about proper grooming, gestures, body language, tone of voice and ways of greeting someone. Furthermore, interactive activities such as role playing and experience sharing among the participants made for a lively and engaging learning atmosphere. The workshops were well-received by more than 400 frontline staff from different sectors of the airport community. 微笑滿載 一個簡單的微笑, 往往令人留下深刻印象, 尤其對首次訪港的旅客來說, 友善的態度加上親切的笑容, 能令他們感到賓至如歸 為推廣香港國際機場好客之道, 機場管理局於 10 月 11 日至 11 月 6 日舉辦 微笑滿機場 活動, 當中包括多個有關顧客服務的活動 微笑滿機場 活動以連串顧客服務培訓工作坊揭開序幕 工作坊旨在讓機場員工溫故知新, 提高他們的顧客服務意識, 加強服務技巧並肯定笑容帶出的正面影響力 在八次工作坊中, 經驗豐富的導師示範微笑的技巧, 並講解微笑如何能向旅客帶來正面形象 參加者亦在工作坊中學習恰當的打扮 舉止 肢體語言 語調及打招呼方式 工作坊亦設有角色扮演及經驗分享等互動活動, 參加者積極投入, 學習氣氛熱烈 機場社區不同界別對工作坊反應踴躍, 共有逾 400 名前線員工參加 Best Smiling Customer Service Competition Keep smiling! Passengers can now give their support to courteous customer service staff by voting in the Best Smiling Customer Service competition. To encourage airport staff to continue providing quality service, passengers are invited to cast their vote or give a Smile Sticker to staff who deliver outstanding service as a gesture of recognition. Voting period: now till 6 November Smiles at the Airport Photo Competition Radiant smiles help brighten up the airport! We are now collecting photos featuring the smiling faces of airport staff and passengers captured at the airport. The photo competition is open to the public and images can be submitted via HKIA s Facebook page. Winners will stand a chance to win a pair of Hong Kong to Bangkok roundtrip air tickets, and the brightest smiles will also be selected to light up a Smiling Wall at HKIA. 7 JUNIOR DRAGONS VISIT THE AIRPORT The fascinating world of aviation was further opened up to some 30 Hong Kong Dragonair Aviation Certificate Programme participants during their visit to HKIA on 5 September. The young aviation aspirants relished the opportunity to discover more about the airport s operations, future developments and various environmentally friendly initiatives at HKIA. They were also fascinated with the tour at the Integrated Airport Centre and Airport Emergency Centre where they had a firsthand look at the operations in action. Launched in 2005, the programme nurtures future aviation industry leaders through a series of training sessions which help them gain an in-depth understanding of aviation and explore their interest in pursuing a career in the field. 港龍青年精英參觀機場 於 9 月 5 日, 港龍航空飛行證書計劃 的 30 多名參加者到香港國際機場參觀, 進一步探索令人嚮往的航空世界 這群有志投身航空業的青少年, 藉此機會參觀了機場中央控制中心及機場緊急應變中心, 親身了解機場實際運作情況, 增進對機場運作 未來發展及機場各項環保措施的認識, 獲益良多 這項計劃於 2005 年推出, 旨在培育航空界的未來領袖, 透過一系列培訓, 讓他們對航空業的運作有更深入了解, 並啟發他們加入這個行業發展的興趣 AIRPORT AMBASSADOR SUPERVISOR SHINES Congratulations to Airport Ambassador Supervisor Elice Yeung for her recent recognition as one of the Most Improved Trainees of Youth Employment and Training Programme (YTEP) by the Labour Department. She was commended for her positive attitude at work and displaying significant development in her skills and knowledge during her stint in the Airport Ambassador Programme (AAP). Elice took her first step in her career through YTEP and worked as an Airport Ambassador in After a year, she was promoted to Ambassador Leader supervising other Airport Ambassadors who were impressed with her sincerity, leadership and positive attitude. Elice has since taken another step and assumed a role as an Ambassador Supervisor. Co-organised by the AA, Labour Department and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the AAP provides on-the-job training and placement opportunities for young people interested in working at HKIA and aviation-related industries. Since its launch in 2002, AAP has benefitted over 800 Airport Ambassadors and AAP leaders. 機場督導大使展光芒 Airport Ambassador Supervisor Elice Yeung (front row, second from right) is recognised among the Most Improved Trainees of YTEP during the awards ceremony. 機場督導大使楊詠婷 ( 前排右二 ) 在頒獎禮上領取 展翅青見超新星 獎項 恭賀機場督導大使楊詠婷, 早前獲選為勞工處其中一位 展翅青見超新星 她於 機場大使計劃 服務期間工作態度認真, 在掌握技能及知識方面亦有顯著進步, 因而獲得嘉許 楊詠婷於 2010 年透過 展翅青見計劃 成為機場大使, 邁出事業發展第一步 一年後, 她獲晉升為機場領袖大使, 負責督導其他機場大使 楊詠婷誠懇 積極的態度及領導才能令同事留下深刻印象, 而之後她更擔任機場督導大使之職 由機管局 勞工處及香港青年協會合辦的 機場大使計劃, 為有意在香港國際機場及航空相關行業工作的青少年提供在職培訓及實習機會 這項計劃自 2002 年推出以來, 已有超過 800 名機場大使及機場領袖大使受惠 BRIEFINGS FOR FISHERMEN 漁業簡報會 As one of HKIA s key stakeholders, the AA places utmost importance to the livelihood of fishermen who ply their trade in the surrounding waters of HKIA. In this light, the AA held separate briefings with the Hong Kong Fishermen Consortium and Hong Kong Fishery Alliance in late September and early October respectively to update the fishermen groups on the progress of the Environmental Impact Assessment studies. AA Executive Director, Projects John Chai, General Manager, Environment Peter Lee and the environmental consultant facilitated an exchange of views with the fishermen regarding the impact of the threerunway system project on marine ecology and fisheries. 8 NEWS & EVENTS 每月要聞 HEALTH EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS 衞生防疫靈活應變 In a bid to test and enhance the preparedness of the airport community in responding to a public health emergency at the airport, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) carried out Exercise Mo Dong Shan during the early hours of 13 September. Over 300 participants from 14 government departments and organisations demonstrated high efficiency and strong cooperation in implementing the contingency plan during the exercise. The exercise simulated a Hong Kong tourist who joined a Middle East tour group and fell ill during his flight back to Hong Kong from Saudi Arabia. Upon reviewing the passenger s medical condition and recent travel history, the airline s medical services provider suspected the passenger had contracted the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). The Hong Kong Port Health was immediately contacted. As precautionary measures, a Public Health Incident Assessment Group Meeting was convened and the Airport Emergency Centre was activated to coordinate the contingency response. Upon the aircraft s landing at HKIA, the Duty Port Health Officer assessed the ill passenger and other tour group members onboard who also became sick. They were quickly sent to hospital while others in the tour group were quarantined for further observation. Meanwhile, the remaining passengers were cleared by Port Health Officers to continue their journeys. To safeguard the health of all airport users, the Airport Authority (AA) has developed public health and pandemic contingency plans since Public health exercises and drills are organised regularly to maintain the awareness and contingency response of the airport community. 香港國際機場於 9 月 13 日凌晨時分進行 武當山演習, 以測試及提高機場同業對機場公共衞生緊急事故的應變能力 超過 300 名來自 14 個政府部門及機構的人員參與演習, 他們在執行應變計劃的過程中, 展現出卓越的效率及高度合作精神 演習模擬一名曾參加一個中東旅行團, 並由沙特阿拉伯返港的香港旅客在航機上感到不適 航空公司的醫療服務人員為該旅客檢查身體狀況及查閱其最近外遊紀錄後, 懷疑這名旅客感染中東呼吸綜合症冠狀病毒, 於是立即聯絡香港港口衞生處 公共衞生事故評估小組召開會議, 而香港國際機場亦啟動機場緊急應變中心, 協調緊急應變工作, 以作防範措施 飛機降落香港國際機場後, 當值港口衞生主任評估患病旅客的情況, 亦為機上感到不適的其他旅行團成員進行檢查 這批旅客獲迅速安排下機, 並送往醫院, 旅行團其他成員亦接受檢疫, 以作進一步觀察 同時, 其餘乘客經港口衞生主任檢查後可繼續行程 為保障所有機場使用者的健康, 機管局自 2003 年起制定了公共衞生及流行病應變計劃, 並定期舉行公共衞生演練及演習, 讓機場同業保持警覺性及應變能力 NEW BUS FARE DISCOUNTS A short-term fare concession scheme has recently been introduced on airport bus routes, from which both airport staff and the public can benefit. 9 15TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL 十五周年特輯 THE FIRST AIRPORT LIDAR WINDSHEAR ALERT SYSTEM IN THE WORLD 全球首個機場配備 激光雷達風切變預警系統 Adding another innovative feather to its cap, HKIA was the first airport installed with Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) systems. In 2002, the Hong Kong Observatory installed the first LIDAR system, which marked the first of its kind for airport weather alerting in the world. Later in November 2006, the second LIDAR was also installed. Nowadays, the two LIDAR systems are located near the two runways of HKIA, enabling them to monitor wind conditions over the airport departure and approach corridors to safeguard flight safety at all times. 香港國際機場再創先河 是全球首個設有激光雷達 系統的機場 於2002年香港天文台裝設第一個激 光雷達系統 是全球首個同類型的機場天氣預警系 統 其後於2006年11月 機場亦安裝了第二個激光 雷達系統 現時這兩個激光雷達系統設於機場兩條 跑道附近 時刻監測機場升降區的風力情況 以確 保飛行安全 HONG KONG AND SHANGHAI AIRPORTS FORGE CLOSER COOPERATION 港滬機場推動更緊密合作 HKIA s friendly ties extend beyond borders, and this rang particularly true on 27 October 2003 as the AA signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Shanghai Airport Authority to strengthen exchanges and promote closer cooperation between the two airports and cities. Under the LOI, the two airport authorities agreed to embrace collaboration across a spectrum of operations including airport safety and security management system, airport flow management, and retail business development. Coinciding with World Food Day, the ceremony featured support from Green Monday International Ambassadors Vivian Chow and Leo Ku, who shared insights on how going meat-free once a week can help combat global warming and benefit one s health. Currently, 57 airport restaurants, lounges and business partners have pledged to Go Green Monday at HKIA by offering vegetarian menu options every Monday, or even on a daily basis. The event also featured a Green Dish Tasting Expo at which 15 participating outlets offered mouth-watering samples of their vegetarian cuisine to guests, passengers and the public. Airport Authority (AA) s Executive Director, Corporate Development Wilson Fung welcomed Executive Councillor Bernard Chan, Under Secretary for Transport and Housing Yau Shing-mu and Under Secretary for Home Affairs Florence Hui as guests of honour. Fung also underscored how the Go Green HKIA campaign aligns with AA s sustainability goals and its aim of operating HKIA as the world s greenest airport. HKIA strives to be green in all aspects of our operations, including both hardware and software. This campaign enables us to enhance our sustainability through sharing a healthy and low-carbon dining concept with our business partners, 7 million residents as well as 57 million plus passengers that pass through HKIA, Fung said. David Yeung, co-founder of Green Monday said, Green Monday will work with the Airport Authority to invite more restaurants, lounges and other business partners at HKIA to join the campaign. Micro Carbon Operation (MCO), one of the AA s sponsored projects, recently won the Go Green Awards 2013 organised by Weekend Weekly magazine. This award recognises companies, social enterprises and NGOs who have undertaken green measures and promoted sustainable development. Launched in January 2013, MCO is a one-year campaign organised by international environmental organisation The Climate Group. It aims to promote and build a low carbon community in Hong Kong through interactive events such as old clothes upcycling workshop, simple living day camp, food waste recycling tour cum green dinner, and micro carbon meadow music concert. As the heart of an airport s operations, the height of the ATC serves a distinct purpose: to provide air traffic controllers with a 360-degree view of the airfield overseeing all directions. 12 HAPPY HOURS 工餘時光 MOONCAKES MADE WITH CARE 愛心月餅獻關懷 The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for heartwarming gatherings, and around 40 Airport Authority (AA) staff members and their family spent a meaningful early celebration at a mooncake making class with the elderly on 14 September. Organised by the AA Staff Club and the Hong Kong Neighbourhood Advice Action Council Tung Chung Integrated Services Centre, participants learnt how to make traditional mini mooncakes with the elderly volunteers.
