4 CA Trade Show Success! First-ever Community Association Networking Trade Show Spring 2013 page 4 Our first CA Networking Trade Show took place at Prairieland Park on Sat. April 13 th. Judging by the noise & the energy that was felt, the event was a big success! About 120 people attended & 28 CAs set up a table displays to share their successes. Thank you to everyone who was involved. It was very apparent that community association volunteers take great pride in what they do for residents, and in their many successes within their community. We ve heard you enjoyed learning from each other. Thank you too to the trusty Indoor Coodinators who attended the training just prior to the Trade Show. We really appreciated hearing from Flordeliza Dayrit (below, left) who shared insight into welcoming New Canadians to CA programs and boards. We look forward to seeing all of you at a future trade show event!

6 More dynamic Programming from Atoske a few of last year s grads + Elders + Councillor Iwanchuk Spring 2013* page 6 The Atoske summer training program is an excellent opportunity for Aboriginal youth to enhance their life and employment skills, while exploring various career options offered through the City of Saskatoon and other program partners. The partnership includes the City of Saskatoon, Saskatoon Tribal Council, Gabriel Dumont Institute and Potash Corp. The word atoske derives from the Cree word, which means work. The program began in 2008 and consists of a two week training camp for 14 youth, ages The course content is very intense and graduates of the program acquire a number of certifications that will enhance their ability to find employment, including First Aid & CPR, WHMIS, and Hi5. Throughout the past 5 years, the program graduates have obtained employment with the City of Saskatoon summer program, White Buffalo Youth Lodge, and other summer camp programs. This summer we will be organizing two urban camps, July 21-August 2 & August The deadline for registration is June 21st, You can summit your completed application to the Community Development Office at 3130 Laurier Dr. or fax #: (306) or urbanaboriginalprogram@saskatoon.ca. 7 new talent at our Branch! April Sora Immigration Diversity & Inclusion Consultant It s my pleasure to be writing to you. I enjoyed meeting some of you at the CA Trade Show at Prairieland Park. It was motivating to see so many people share information with one another, and brag a little about the amazing work you are doing in the community. My role is to be a catalyst, a connector for newcomers and settlement organizations and the City at large. Thank you for making me feel so welcome at the Trade Show, and more importantly thanks for all the events and programming you are providing. I look forward to working with you in the future.
