2 -2- Fusion Highlights: Youth Activity Administration & Program s Fusion has renewed its partnership agreement with the Thames Valley District School Board to continue the school program for the upcoming year and the Alternative Education facility rental lease; The Neighbourhood meeting on August 27, 2013 went very well. Issues and concerns addressed at the previous meeting were resolved and the neighbours are very pleased with Fusion s response. Meetings are the last Tuesday of every month. Thanks to OPP Constable Jim Brady for attending the meeting; Fusion s Strategic Plan will be presented to council at the October Council meeting; There were 1,684 visits from youth to Fusion in the Month of August; Ingersoll Youth Action Committee- Youth members organized a number of activities at Burgerfest on August 23, 2013; Eight Fusion volunteers helped out at the annual Harvest Run that took place on Sunday August 25, Fusion volunteers helped assemble the course, directed parking, and manned the water stations; Fusion has recruited 2 more adult volunteers which now bring a total of 8 volunteers that regularly volunteer at Fusion on a weekly basis; The Beginnings Pregnancy Centre out of Woodstock has been running a Teen Mom Program on Wednesday s from 2:30-4:00pm at Fusion. The program has been in operation for 5 weeks and has a group of 4 teen moms have participated; On August 3, 2013 from 11:00-2:00pm Fusion youth and staff ran a Car Wash & BBQ Fundraiser a total of $135 was raised for the Centre; On August 11, 2013 Fusion staff member Michael Brown hosted a Trivia night fundraiser at Crabby Joe s in Ingersoll. A total of 8 teams (33) people competed against each other. A total of $210 was raised to support youth attending a trip to Canada s Wonderland; On August 7 th & 14 th a fundraiser was held at New Orleans Pizza in Ingersoll. 50% of all pizza sales went towards Fusion. A total of $275 was raised. The funds raised also went towards the Canada s Wonderland trip; Canada s Wonderland Trip took place on August 20, A total of 40 youth went to Canada s Wonderland. With multiple fundraising initiatives spearheaded by staff and youth enough money was fundraised to pay for the bus. The Annual Skate/Bike Competition took place on August 24, A total of 28 skateboarders & bikers participated. The event raised a total of $313.

3 -3- Dates to remember: Tuesday September 10 th, 17 th and 24 th, 2013 the Oxford County United Way Seeing Is Believing Tours has chosen Fusion as a tour stop; The SureStart program launches on Tuesday September 10, 2013; Fusion is participating at the Laurie Hawkins Public School Community groups Fair on Wednesday September 18, 2013 from 5:00-8:00pm; Fusion Neighbourhood Meeting September 24, 2013 from 7-8pm; Back to school Free Hot Dog Day on Thursday September 4, 2013 from 2:30-4:00pm. Youth Technology Program ReBuildIT sold two refurbished laptops and two refurbished desktops in the month of August; Our ReBuildIT program has established an eight-week training program, as well as a credit system for youth to earn incentives based on participation; New music and recording staff Otto Flath brings a new dimension to our music programs with his strong background in piano; Graphic Design and Video Editing programs have been combined into a single Multimedia program, offering a variety of activities based on the youth s interests; Fusion provided sound system for the Fire Department s 150 th anniversary celebration banquet and the Harvest Run. SureStart Program The first Business Challenge Camp was delivered to 11 youth. The youth worked on creating business ideas that they sold at the Ingersoll Kiwanis market on August 17, The youth collectively raised $271 in sales. This program was in partnership with several local guest speakers such as Gunn's Hill Artisan Cheese, Ingersoll Royal Bank, Kitty Babcock, A Dog's House and Oxford Small Business Support Centre; The SureStart program will be delivering employment training to youth out of school and out of work beginning September 10, 2013 for three days/week for three weeks (9 sessions total). Interested youth should contact Ingersoll Community Employment Services or Fusion Youth Centre for referrals; The Youth Business Advisory Committee has begun meeting to discuss the direction of the committee. The YBAC is currently made up of 4 youth aged and will focus on supporting the SureStart program as a youth perspective; The SureStart program has impacted 31 youth over the past 3 months through training opportunities and reached 131 youth through career fairs and other events.

4 -4- Museum Highlights: The Ingersoll Museum has been busy throughout the month of August and September is looking to be almost as busy; There were 2 bus tours in August: 104 people from the Niagara Region were on a mystery tour, and 48 folks from Nebraska were on a "Great Canadian Cities" tour. This is the 3rd year that the American tour operator has stopped at our museum. A group of Russians are coming for a bus tour of the Museum on September 1 st ; The Museum is featured in a new culinary tourism magazine. 475,000 copies of "Ontario's Southwest" are being distributed across Ontario and into the Border States; The Museum's Curator had done some consulting work for the Canadian National Exhibition earlier in the year. This work is now featured in a temporary display on superstitions at the CNE. The Museum is acknowledged in the display text and people are encouraged to visit us. The Curator was invited to be a special guest of the Premier at the opening ceremonies on August 16 th ; Summer students Jenelle Bender and Chris Comiskey have been a tremendous asset to the Town and the Museum this year. A great deal of work has been accomplished at the Museum because of their efforts. A portion of their salaries has been provided by a Young Canada Works grant; The Museum had an information display booth at the Chamber of Commerce Food & Wine event on August 22nd. We used this as an opportunity to promote the Sports Hall of Fame; Nominations for induction into the Sports Hall of Fame are now being accepted until September 10th. The Induction Ceremony and fundraising banquet will take place at the Arena on September 28th. Tickets are available at the Museum; Approximately 2000 people took part in the activities of Harvest Festival at the museum and Centennial Park during the weekend of August 24 & 25. Special thanks to those members of Town Council who took part in the threshing competition; The Ingersoll museum and the Oxford County Museum School will be part of the Open Doors Oxford public event on September 21; Plans are under way for the Museum Curator to install a special exhibit in 2014 to mark the centennial of IMT.

5 -5- VPCC/Arena Highlights: The ice was installed the week of August 26, 2013 and the first user group is scheduled to begin their season September 3 rd, VPCC is offering a get CancerSmart & Exercise Program this coming fall. A lifetime of fitness is the key to prevention, recurrence and recovery. An information night will be held on September 9 th, 2013 from 6 pm to 7 pm at VPCC. Parks: The Parks Department is winding down the summer operation with the majority of summer students leaving after the labour day weekend. The Director of Parks and Recreation will be off on sick leave from September 18 th, 2013 to November 4, Dan St Amand, Facility Operation Manager will address any issues and/or concerns in the Director s absence.
