The fourth graders, who attend Riverbend Academy, started at Rivera Park, located at 901 South Beach Street and traveled north, walking a little over a mile. With the help of the City s parks staff, the students, teachers and parents, we were able to fill three large bags of trash. Coming together as a community to keep our parks clean benefits the parks and the creatures living in them. It also helps make our community stronger by coming together to achieve a common goal. Kindness is contagious and that showed last Friday as passersby thanked the children, teachers and parents for their hard work and dedication to our community. We send a huge THANK YOU to Riverbend Academy for lending little and big hands to help keep our parks and entire community litter free. 2 PAGE 2 Earth Day 2017 This year, Saturday, April 22, marks the forty-seventh anniversary of the first Earth Day. On Thursday, April 20, the City of Ormond Beach will be holding its 25 th annual Picnic on the Plaza at City Hall, 22 South Beach Street, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in celebration of Earth Day. More than one billion people in 190 countries celebrate Earth Day. Below are some of the booths/exhibits which will provide a wealth of information and some great giveaways. 3 PAGE 3 City Hall and all non-emergency facilities will be closed on Friday, April 14, in observance of the Good Friday holiday. There will be no Weekly Review or Weekly Report next week. Regular office hours will resume on Monday, April 17. Swing into Spring Move to the music and boogie to the groove at The Casements Swing into Spring concert series! The City of Ormond Beach Department of Leisure Services proudly presents free live music the last three Thursdays in April. Celebrate the start of spring with jamming jazz music from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on The Casements North Lawn. The series kicks off on April 13 th with Coastal Vibe (island sounds and current hits). Hillbilly Jack (country hits) will play on April 20 th. The final concert on April 27 st will feature Moonlight Combo (big band favorites). Come out and bop to some crazy beats from these cool cats! Swing into Spring is a free concert series open to the general public. Seating is provided and light refreshment will be sold. Free parking is available at The Casements parking lot. The Casements is located at 25 Riverside Drive. 4 PAGE 4 7 Paths to a Group Show After their first successful exhibit last February, The Art Group returns for an encore exhibit at Rockefeller s riverside residence. Featuring work from seven local artists, 7 Paths to A Group Show presents an eclectic collection with thirty-one original artworks. Pieces vary from vivid acrylics on canvas to unique wood carvings. While each work offers a distinct perspective, all works celebrate creativity and craftsmanship. The Art Group will host an open reception on Friday evening, April 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. All are invited to view the troop s unparalleled compilation. 7 Paths to A Group Show will be on display at The Casements until April 28th. Viewing hours are weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon. For more information, please contact Nine Lives Nothing s more purrfect than a family-fun film on a Friday night, and you can t miss this month s Movies on the Halifax! If you re feline like you could use a few laughs, then Nine Lives is the flick for you! At 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, the Department of Leisure Services presents the FREE April movie in Rockefeller Gardens, 26 Riverside Drive. The cat comedy stars Kevin Spacey as Tom Brand, an overworked businessman who struggles to make time for his family. Things take a strange and hilarious turn after an accident befalls Tom and the family s new cat Mr. Fuzzypants. Other stars include Jennifer Garner, Robbie Amell, Cheryl Hines, and Christopher Walken. Movies on the Halifax are presented in Rockefeller Gardens. Remember to bring a blanket or chair so you can comfortably watch the movie on the lawn. Popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase. For Any Event will provide free face painting. Nine Lives is rated PG as parental guidance is suggested as some material may not be suitable for children. Movies on the Halifax are free events open to the general public on the first Friday of the month. No movie will be shown in May due to the Department of Leisure Services annual Art in the Park event. On June 2, at 8:30 p.m., The BFG will premiere in Rockefeller Gardens. The Steven Spielberg film is based on the British novelist, Roald Dahl, children s book and is rated PG.

5 PAGE 5 The Lettermen The Lettermen performed a sold out concert at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 31. The Lettermen were founded in 1959 and founding member Tony Butala continues to sing with the group now in its sixth decade of live shows. The Lettermen had their first hit The Way You Look Tonight, in 1961 and more hits soon followed giving the group international superstardom status. The packed house enjoyed the set which included such hits as Going Out of My Head/Can t Take My Eyes Off of You, Put Your Head On My Shoulder, Hurt So Bad, and When I Fall In Love. Dueling Pianos Dueling Pianos, a tribute concert to legendary early rock and roll legends Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis, was held at the Performing Arts Center on Sunday, April 2. The show featured hits of Fats Domino including Blueberry Hill, Ain t That A Shame, and Shake, Rattle, and Roll. The Jerry Lee Lewis portion of the show included the hits Sea Cruise, Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On, and Great Balls of Fire. It was a high energy show that had the audience enthusiastically cheering and singing along with the band. PARKS The Leisure Services Parks staff repaired a wooden railing by the sidewalk at Ames Park and also repaired a piece of concrete on the alligator slab. At the Nova Community Park, they removed an old guy-wire cleat from the ground and repaired a bench seat at the Magic Forest Playground. At Bailey Riverbridge, a concrete piece on the sidewalk was fixed. New corner trash cans were installed at the Environmental Discovery Center and dock pieces were removed from the river at Riviera Park. As usual, Citywide safety inspections were performed of all parks and equipment and weekly inspections were done of parks facilities for reservations. All park reservations were posted at various facilities.
