2 The History of South Korea South Korea claimed its independence, and formally began on August 15, South Korea was administered by the United States while North Korea was administered by the Soviet Union. South Korea has seen substantial development in education, economy, and culture. Some forms of this include public schools, private schools, a thriving market economy, urbanization as well as industrialization. Since the 1960 s, South Korea has grown from being one of the poorest countries, to being one of the richest due to Capitalism and funds from the United States. South Korea is said to be one of the rising Asian States alongside Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

3 The Culture of South Korea Language: Hanguel South Korea as a whole has adopted and or developed many new and innovative technologies to enhance their lifestyles such as smartphones, flat screen televisions, credit cards, surgery, and cosmetics. This has been their main and or popular culture for many decades. There are many traditional forms of culture throughout the nation such as folk music, hanbok dresses, and Tang ol dance.

4 Entertainment Tourist Trains - The Central Inland Region Tour Train commenced operations on April 12, 2013 and includes the circular O-Train and the V-Train, which journeys through Korea's inland valleys. Ice Festivals - Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival in Gangwon-do combines winter sports such soccer games on ice, snow and ice sledding and fishing activities such as trout ice-fishing and trout-lure fishing.

5 Entertainment Fire Festivals - The Jeongwol Daeboreum Field-Burning Festival, also known as the Jeju Fire Festival, has secured its position as one of the major festivals representing Jeju. Everland Theme Park - Travel to the suburbs outside Seoul to experience Everland, the biggest resort and theme park in South Korea. The park's Caribbean Bay section features a water park complete with artificial waves and water rides.

6 Entertainment Dreamland Amusement Park - At Dreamland, you can ride the park's three giant roller coasters, visit a carnival and see a petting zoo. Lotte World Amusement Park - Lotte World, an amusement park and sporting complex in downtown Seoul, is massive in scope and scale. It contains an indoor amusement park, an outdoor island theme park, a museum of Korean folk culture, a year-round ice skating rink and a shopping complex.

7 Entertainment Ice Skating and Sledding - Ice skating and sledding are two of the most popular and affordable winter leisure activities and are loved by people of all ages. The winter cold will be a distant memory as you zoom down snowy hilltops or glide gracefully across the ice Winter Olympics - The 2018 Winter Olympics, and commonly known as PyeongChang 2018, is a major international multi-sport event scheduled to take place from 9th to the 25th of February 2018, in PyeongChang, South Korea. It will be the first winter Olympics to be held on mainland Asia.

8 Historical Attractions Gyeongbokgung Palace - Gyeongbokgung Palace was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. Built in 1395, it is located in northern Seoul, South Korea. National Museum of Korea - The National Museum of Korea is the flagship museum of Korean history and art in South Korea and is the cultural organization that represents Korea. Since its establishment in 1945, the museum has been committed to various studies and research activities in the fields of archaeology, history, and art.

9 Historical Attractions Gyeongju - Gyeongju, historically known as Seorabeol, is a coastal city in the far southeastern corner of North Gyeongsang Province in South Korea. Donggureung - The largest and most attractive of the World Heritage, royal tombs are scattered around Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Donggureung is the burial place of seven kings and 10 queens from the Joseon dynasty.

10 Historical Attractions Changdeokgung - Changdeokgung is set within a large park in Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is one of the Five Grand Palaces built by the kings of the Joseon Dynasty. The Demilitarized Zone - The Demilitarized Zone is a region on the Korean peninsula that divides North Korea from South Korea. Roughly following the 38th parallel, the 150-mile-long wall incorporates territory on both sides of the cease-fire line as it existed at the end of the Korean War.

11 Historical Attractions Inwangsan Guksadang - Originally located on Namsan this is Seoul s most famous shamanist shrine and a place where you may witness sacrifices to the spirits made by shamans. Haeinsa - Haeinsa is an important Buddhist temple on Gaya Mountain in Gyeongsang province, South Korea. Founded in the 9th century and rebuilt in the 19th century. It is best known for its complete copy of the Buddhist scriptures.

12 Natural Attractions Dokdo Islands - The Dokdo Islands are a group of small islets in the Sea of Japan. While South Korea controls the islets, its sovereignty over them is contested by Japan. Ulleungdo - Ulleung-do is a South Korean island east of the Korean Peninsula. Formerly known as the Dagelet Island or Argonaut Island. Ulleungdo is volcanic in origin, the rocky steep-sided island is the top of a large stratovolcano which rises from the seafloor, reaching a maximum elevation of 3,228 ft at its Peak.

13 Natural Attractions Hallasan Mountain - Hallasan Mountain rises up from the center of Jeju Island and is perhaps the island s most memorable landmark. Also called Mt. Yeongjusan, Hallasan Mountain is widely known by scientists for its geological value. Jeju Olle Trail - Jeju Olle Trail is a long path on Jeju Island, an island off the south-west coast of South Korea. The overall route, mostly following the coastline, consists of 21 connected numbered main routes, 5 sub-routes, and a small trail that connects to Jeju International Airport.

14 Natural Attractions Jirisan Forest - Jirisan is the highest peak on the South Korean mainland, and the National Park in which it is set is South Korea s largest. Most of the park is in Gyeongsangnam-do, but in the west it spills into Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do. Bukhansan Trail - The Bukhansan National Park in Seoul and Gyeonggi covers an area of km and was established on April 2nd The park contains forested areas, temples and granite peaks.

15 Natural Attractions Seoraksan Mountain - Seoraksan is the highest mountain in the Taebaek mountain range in the Gangwon Province in eastern South Korea. It is located in a national park near the city of Sokcho. After the Hallasan volcano on Jeju Island and Jirisan in the south, Seoraksan is the third highest mountain in South Korea. Namiseom Forest - Namiseom is a forest on an island located in Chuncheon, South Korea. It was formed as it was inundated by the rising water of the North Han River as the result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam in 1944.

16 Unique Places To Visit Seoul Tower - The Seoul Tower is a communication and observation tower located on Namsan Mountain in central Seoul, South Korea. War Memorial of Korea - This huge museum documents the history of the Korean War with heaps of black-and-white documentary footage of the main battles and events. Along with photos, maps and artifacts, the films give a fascinating insight into what the war was like.

Gwang-An Bridge - Also known as the Diamond Bridge, this two-story bridge connects Suyeong-gu and Haeundae-gu. It offers an astonishing view of mountains, sandy beaches, hills, and city lights.

19 Unique Places To Visit Myeng-Dong - Myeongdong is a market in Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea between Chungmu-ro, Eulji-ro, and Namdaemun-ro. It is mostly a commercial area, being one of Seoul's main shopping and tourism districts. Gwangalli Beach - Gwangalli Beach is a beach in Busan, South Korea. It is located at Gwangan, Suyeong-gu, Busan Metropolitan City. It sits inside a cove spanned by the Gwangan Bridge and covers 82,000 square meters over a length of 1.4 km.
