The program includes concerts for families, as well as the local and foreign performers concerts. The festival will be opened by the original music by Kaspars Zemītis and the old English classics performed by the Riga Cathedral Boys Choir. 7 Jūrmala recommends Jūrmala iesaka November 11 th from 10:00 LĀČPLĒSIS DAY Latvian freedom fighters* in Jūrmala are honoured in a church service held in Sloka Evangelical Lutheran Church, with a torch procession and memorial event by the monument to Captain Zolts in Kaugurciems. *Every year on November 11th Latvia remembers the victory of the Latvian army over the volunteer army of Western Russia or so-called Bermontian army on 11th November Lāčplēsis Day is the memorial day for the heroes fallen in battles for the freedom of Latvia, and one of the most known traditions of the Lāčplēsis Day initiated already in the far 1988 is lighting of candles and torch processions. FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN November 18 th from 10:00 ROAD OF LIGHT IN JŪRMALA The birthday of Latvia* traditionally will be honoured in Jūrmala by lighting the oldest and longest Road of Light through the whole city of Jūrmala. On the eve of the November 18, a concert and fireworks on Raiņa Street at Kauguri Culture House. *November 18 is a public holiday in Latvia because on 18 November 1918 an independent state of Latvia was proclaimed in the Latvian National Theatre, and each year we celebrate the birthday of Latvia on this day

8 For families with children For families with children LĪVU AKVAPARKS Water has always been the element of the children: warm, cold, calm or wavy any water will do. And where else would you find more water in the winter season than in the water park Līvu Akvaparks as it is the largest water park in Northern Europe with the total area of 11,000 m2 in winter season. Every year the water park is visited by more than 300,000 people. In 3 storeys of aquapark more than 20 various slides with more than 10 pools of various depth and size are placed. The park also offers activities for children, spa complex with 4 saunas, cold pool, salt room, bubble baths and air and underwater massage equipment, as well as catering service locations and a bar in the water. Footpaths winding through pine-trees will lead you to three different children s playgrounds and to Jūrmala s only 36 metres high watchtower, which offers a fantastic bird s-eye view of the city. This is a great opportunity to rise above the pine tops and get the feel of Jūrmala s vastness. In autumn, you can still manage to enjoy skateboarding and roller skating in the skate park and roller skating rink, but until 31 st of October the adventure park Jūrmalas Tarzāns is still open. During wintertime in suitable weather conditions, there is a ski run available for skiing in ski-skating technique. 12 Ideas for leisure time Ideas for leisure time BEACH Jūrmala beach, which stretches 24 km, will certainly attract active hikers, runners, skiers or cyclers. The main thing is to choose adequate clothes and equipment, and your day will definitely be successful. If you prefer a more peaceful stroll, we suggest that you should go for a walk along a lit beach footpath from Turaidas Street in Dzintari to Ērgļu Street in Majori. In winter, use the only 22 km long beach cross-country ski track in Latvia intended for classic cross-country skiing and leads through the whole city. More information SKATING RINK The Majori sports centre invites you to enjoy real fun for the whole family roller skating and skating. Inventory is available in the Majori sports equipment rental. In October, the skating rink will continue to take in roller skaters, but the skating season is planned to be open from 1 November to 30 April (the date may be changed depending on the weather conditions). Price per hour for adults is 3 EUR, for pupils 1.50 EUR, for children up to 7 years old free of charge. Skate rental for a pair is 1.50 EUR per hour. The water is purified through a vacuum filter, so in comparison with other pools the usual water chlorination is done at a minimum level. Alongside individual swimming classes, water aerobics and group swimming classes for children under the guidance of a coach are available there. The parents can meanwhile enjoy relaxation in the SPA complex or simply leave to tend to their own business for a couple of hours. 49 Meža Prospect, Bulduri, SEA WATER POOL The water of the pool at the five-star hotel Baltic Beach Hotel & SPA is obtained far in the sea, channelled through pipelines to the hotel and heated to the temperature of С after a special purification. Swimming instructors offer training both for children and adults, as well as private classes and Aqua-aerobics classes for those who prefer water sports to the gym. Receding it left behind lagoons, which overgrowing developed unique marshes and lakes with sulphur water mineral springs, rivulets and forest stands flooding every year. At Ķemeri National Park Information Centre Forest House, visitors may view an interactive exhibition. BIG KEMERI BOG BOARDWALK Ķemeri bog enchants with its special atmosphere. The big boardwalk is the most popular attraction at Ķemeri National Park. Here you can see raised moss untouched by human activity, enjoy peace and unique landscapes. The length of the great arc of the trail is 3.4 km that of the small arc is 1.4 km. Note that the distance from Ķemeri station to the beginning of the trail is at least 4 km in one direction. It will be quite a hike. BOARDWALK IN BLACK ALDER SWAMP This boardwalk at Ķemeri National Park begins near the park s Information Centre Meža māja (Forest House) and its length is 600 m. The trail is suitable for families with children. At the beginning of the trail, there is a playground, which is not far from the city centre. The old Ķemeri Health Resort Park with the hydrogen sulphide mineral spring Ķirzaciņa (Little Lizard) and interesting last century buildings, bridges, churches and other environmental objects is just around the corner. ĶEMERI NATIONAL PARK 24 SLOKA LAKE TRAIL AND BIRD-WATCHING TOWER The trail leads along the shores of the lake rich in waterfowls and through various forests. It starts and ends near the Sloka Lake, where there is a parking lot for motorists, a picnic area and a 7 m high floating observation platform. On the way along the trail, you can test your physical prowess trying out different sports elements. The Sloka Lake trail can be reached by taking the pedestrian and bicycle route Ķemeri Kūdra. The distance from the parking lot near the spring Ķirzaciņa (Little Lizard) to the bird-watching tower on the Sloka Lake is about 3 km. The distance from the tower to Kūdra is also 3 km. Ķemeri can be reached by buses 6, 10 and 10a, but if you want to go to the Big Bog Boardwalk, the train Riga Tukums will be more convenient. Further from Ķemeri station, follow the signs. A new exposition Aspazija returns to Dubulti has been opened providing an opportunity for the visitors of the museum to familiarise themselves more with the life and writings of the poetess through interactive and digital elements. The house where the poetess has lived the last ten years of her life, will now feature Aspazija and her faithful friends the cats as a hologram. 18/20 Z.
