BASIC RULES 1. Ohrid Choir Festival in the year 2009 will be held in the period from 27th to 31st of August in Ohrid, Macedonia. 2. Every choir and singing formation has the right to participate.

2 BASIC RULES 1. Ohrid Choir Festival in the year 2009 will be held in the period from 27th to 31st of August in Ohrid, Macedonia. 2. Every choir and singing formation has the right to participate. The application deadline is 1 May In order to apply a completed application form must be sent, including a photograph of the choir and the conductor, as well as a recent audio recording. The requested materials can be sent by post or by . The Application form can be downloaded from the following web site: 3. If the number of choirs applying exceed the number of allotted spots the Festival Organization Committee will select the participants based on the material sent by the choir (application, audio recordings etc). By 5 May 2009 the names of the participants will be announced on the Festival s web site: 4. The selected choir is required to pay non-refundable deposit of 10 euros per person no later than 20 May 2009 in order to confirm their participation. 5. The Festival has five sections: Section 1 - Open air performances (required) Section 2 - Competition Section 3 - Folk music Section 4 - Sacred music Section 5 - Pop music 6. All choirs are required to perform in at least two sections, although if they desire, they may take part in more than two sections. The first section of the festival - Open air performances is obligatory and the second one can be chosen by the choir.

3 7. Description of the Festivals sections Section 1 In the Open air performances section - the choir is required to perform a minute program of their choice at several outdoor public locations. Section 2 To participate in the Competition section, the choirs are required to perform a minute program of their choice. Although, it is strongly recommended for the program to contain different styles of choral music and contain at least one composition by a Macedonian composer. Since the program is intended to be vocal only, we will only allow you to have one or at most two compositions accompanied by instrument(s). The performances will be monitored by an expert jury that will rank the choirs on different aspects of choral performance. The best choirs will perform at the final concert where they will compete for the Grand Prix of the Festival. The choirs will be divided in several categories and subcategories: -Category A - children s choirs (2/3 of the participants must be 15 or younger) -Category B - youth choirs (2/3 of the participants must be 25 or younger) -Category C - adult choirs (2/3 of the participants must be older than 25) Subcategories for categories B & C may be added if the number of interested choirs in either of these categories is more than expected. Section 3 The Folk music section is not competitive. The program must contain choral arrangements of folk songs or motives. The program should last 7-12 minutes. The choirs can be accompanied by instrument(s). Section 4 The Sacred music section is not competitive. The program must contain sacred songs. The program should last 7-12 minutes. Section 5 The Pop-music section is not competitive. The program must contain choral arrangements of pop songs. The program should last 7-12 minutes. The choir can be accompanied by instrument(s). 8. By applying to the Festival the choir agrees to give rights to the Festival to use any material recorded during the Festival. 9. Organization Committee has the right to make any necessary last-minute logistical changes to the program. This does not include fees and lodging prices, they will remain as quoted.

4 ACCOMMODATION The Festival offers five accommodation options: Option 1 - Accommodation in Camp Starting from 5 euros per person per day * Camp accommodation (trailers). Four people in one trailer - there are two double beds in each trailer. Toilets and showers are shared. There is a big restaurant where you will have your meals. The camp has its own beach. The camp is surrounded by beautiful nature and it is 2km away from the center of the city. Option 2 - Accommodation in Hostel Starting from 15 euros per person per day * Hostel accommodation. Three or four people will share a room. There is a bathroom in each room. Most of the hostels are located in the center of the city and some of the hostels are located further from the city (up to 10 km), but however the price is the same. All hostels are located near the beach and each one has a restaurant where meals are served. Option 3 - Accommodation in Hotel ( 3 stars) Starting from 28 euros per person per day * Hotels with good conditions. They meet all the standards for a three star hotel. Two or three people will share a room. There is a bathroom in each room. They are located near the beach, only 3-5km away from the city. They are surrounded by beautiful nature. Option 4 - Accommodation in Hotel ( 4 stars) Starting from 40 euros per person per day * Hotels with luxury conditions. They meet all the standards for a four star hotel. Two or three people will share a room. They are located very close to the shore and have their own beach. There are several restaurants and shops in the Hotel. Big beautiful parks surround them and sport grounds (tennis, basketball, swimming pools), etc. Option 5 - Accommodation in Hotel ( 5 stars) Starting from 79 euros per person per day * Hotels with very luxury conditions. They meet all the standards for a five star hotel. Two or three people will share a room. They are located very close to the shore and have their own beach. Big, beautiful parks surround them and sport grounds (tennis, basketball, swimming pools), sauna, several restaurants etc. Hotel rooms have attractive views.

5 All accommodation buildings (hotels, hostels and camps) are located near the lake. Most of them are right next to the shore and have their own beach. All of them have parking lots and offer a complete service, so you don t need to bring anything (pillows, sheets, etc). The quality, services and conditions of the lodging correspond with quoted prices. If you prefer luxurious conditions we recommend that you choose Option 3, 4 or 5. All choirs who will participate in Ohrid Choir Festival 2009 should plan accommodation for at least 3 or 4 nights. If so desired they can stay longer and the same price per day will be honored. * Detailed information about the accommodation is available on: www. ohridchoirfestival.com The Festival does not cover any of the travel costs. The travelling costs must to be covered by the participants. Ways to reach Ohrid: - By bus - On your request the festival will proved you with additional specific information - By airplane - There is an International Ohrid St.Paul The Apostole airport 7 km from the centre of Ohrid. There is a bigger International Alexander The Great airport in Skopje the capital of Macedonia. Skopje is 200 km from Ohrid. On your request the Festival will organize transfer from the Skopje airport to Ohrid and vice versa. You can arrive also trough: Sofia Airport, (400km from Ohrid) Tirana Airport, (200km from Ohrid) Thessaloniki Airport.(200km from Ohrid)
