We are looking forward to it throughout Latvia with wide range of events and activities and Jūrmala is also putting on agenda the events devoted to Latvia - art exhibitions, concerts, events contemplating on history and traditions. 3

4 Jūrmala recommends Jūrmala recommends THE ROAD OF LIGHT, SOLEMN CONCERT AND HOLIDAY FIREWORKS November 18 Jūrmala will open the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Latvia by the Road of Light, lighting up the main street of the city from the bridge over the River Lielupe in Bulduri till Ķemeri. At 19:00 the celebration concert will take place by the Kauguri Culture House in Raiņa Street 110 and at 21:00 Jūrmala will congratulate Latvia by flamboyant holiday fireworks. During the State Centenary we are paying respects to Latvia, by bringing to light our history, raising awareness of the shaping of the statehood and national identity, taking care of Latvia s nature and culture space and creating lasting values or presents to Latvia. LATVIA S CIRCLE OF HONOR FESTIVAL Throughout the year we are celebrating the Latvia s State Centenary by the Latvia s Circle of Honor Festival travelling through the municipalities of Latvia and spending each weekend in another municipality. The youngest visitors of the event may take part in Lego children runs, adults and also children in Zumba fitness masterclasses under the lead of professional Zumba fitness instructors. DUBULTI ART STATION This is the only contemporary art space in Europe that is located in the building of a still functioning railway station. The Dubulti Art Station is an excellent example of how to combine transport, cultural and public administration resources to create a unique art platform accessible to everyone. The building of the Dubulti Station was built in 1977, and, according to the idea of its architect Igor Javein, it creates associations with the high waving sea. After the renovation of the Station carried out in 2015, a professionally-managed contemporary art gallery was arranged here with the changeable exposition. 10 COTTAGE OF RAINIS AND ASPAZIJA Jūrmala is the city of inspiration of the greatest Latvian poets - Rainis and Aspazija. The premises of the cottage with authentic articles and the exhibition halls of the museum let us feel the time when the poetic couple created their outstanding literary works, leaving an indelible trace not only in Latvian literature, but also in our language and worldview. JŪRMALA OPEN AIR MUSEUM Jūrmala Open Air Museum is located in Buļļuciema village, at the foot of the natural park of Ragakāpa dune and is the largest and most attractive museum in Jūrmala. ART GALLERY INNER LIGHT In the gallery, you can not only enjoy the atmosphere created by luminescent colors and the meditative narrative accompanied by music, but also take part in masterclasses, by creating your own painting. Every painting created by painter Vitaly Yermolayev hides a secret of light inside it. Under a special lighting the artworks start to sparkle, and instead of the painting the viewer sees at first, suddenly something different appears, as if initially hidden version of the painting. EDUCATION AND ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE ZILI BRĪNUMI This is an unusual center of education, entertainment and recreation for the whole family, where anyone in an interesting way can find out a bit more of what physics is and which physical laws it exposes to a variety of subjects why it seems that wool emits electricity, how gravity acts or what is inertia. Interactive exhibits and demonstrations with elements of physics and chemistry are based on the themes of children s book Social Physics for Children. They will definitely inspire every visitor to learn the hard sciences. The center offers group activities for children and trip presentations for schools, as well as organizes children s festivities and leases premises for corporate events. 11 DZINTARI FOREST PARK PARK OF LIGHT Dzintari Forest Park is popular both among the Jūrmala residents and the guests of the city. This is demonstrated by a lively movement in the park regardless of the season children in the playgrounds, mothers with baby strollers walking along the board terraces, as they wind through the pine forest blackberry grows, fans of active recreation in the park trails and sports grounds. In its 13 hectares large territory, the Forest Park offers playgrounds of children of different ages, pavements for pedestrians and skaters, skatepark, streetball courts and cafes. The Park also features the 33.5 meters high watchtower with 12 platforms on different levels. The Park is open for visitors the whole year round from 9:00 to 22:00. 12 BEACH One of the greatest treasures of Jūrmala City is a 25 km long beach which for many of citizens and guests is a place where to have a rest, get inspiration or go into sports during any season. A walk along the seaside always has been an excellent idea for spending of free time, also in winter. For lighter walks we offer to use illuminated foot-path from Turaidas Street in Dzintari to Ērgļu Street in Majori. During appropriate weather conditions, the beach of Jūrmala transforms into a long and charming skiing track. 13 SKATING RINK In the very center of Jūrmala City, in Majori, a skating ring is located, and it is not important if snow is snowing or rain is raining, because the ice hall is partly covered by a roof which protects it from unfavorable weather conditions allowing to have an active rest and go into sports in open air. Inventory rental is available. Rent of skates for 1 pair 1.50 EUR per hour. Price for skating for adults 3 EUR per hour, for schoolchildren and pensioner 1.50 EUR per hour, for children younger than 7 years free of charge. 15 ĶEMERI NATIONAL PARK The National Park is established in the place, where thousands of years ago the ancient Littorina Sea had its shores. It left lagoons after stepping back in low-tide, which, becoming gradually overgrown with greenery turned into unique bogs and lakes with hydrogen sulfide mineral water springs, tiny rivers and annually submerging forest stands. GREAT ĶEMERI BOG BOARDWALK The Great Bog Boardwalk is the most popular sightseeing object in Ķemeri National Park, allowing to find out more about the high moss bog untouched by human impact, enjoy peace and unique nature landscapes. The length of the longer arc of the trail comprises 3.4 km, while the shorter arc stretches for 1.4 km. BLACK ALDER SWAMP BOARDWALK This Ķemeri National Park trail starts at the Park s Information Center Forest House and stretches for 600 m. The trail is suitable for walks for families with children - there is a playground at the beginning of the trail, the historical resort park of Ķemeri is also situated nearby. THE SLOKA LAKE WALKING TRAIL AND BIRD-WATCHING TOWER The trail winds through diverse forest settings along the coastline of the lake populated by numerous waterfowl. The trail starts and ends next to the Sloka Lake, where there is a car parking lot, a picnic site and a 7 m high floating overhead bird-watching tower. Walking by the trail, you will find a swing on your way and a range of elements for physical exercise - walking on a narrow log, climbing. LŪŽŅU DAM SPRING The route of approximately 3 km offers to extend your walk along the Ķemeri vicinity to the strongest Sulphur springs out there - Lūžņu Dam Spring, hiding in the deepest corner of the forest. The route starts at Information Center Forest House and offers also great bird-watching opportunities on the way - the beaver dwelling site on your way is one of the best places in the vicinity to watch birds. 16 FOR NATURE FRIENDS IN ĶEMERI AUTUMN BIRD WATCHING DAYS OCTOBER 6 AND 7 Bird watchers are welcome to join excursions lead by guides, in order to watch the migratory birds gathering in various places of the national park. Everyone will be given the possibility to take part in creative workshops, games and inquisitive activities, providing us with an insight into the world of birds and helping to understand the life and needs of birds in an attractive way. MĀRTIŅŠ DAY DELIGHTS NOVEMBER 10 We will learn more about folk traditions and nature s developments in educating exercises in the spirit of the Mārtiņš Day Both adults and children visiting the event will learn more about the developments observed in nature, as winter is approaching, and how the ancient Latvians spent autumn and got prepared for winter. The specialists of the Forest House nature education center ( Meža māja ) will tell you about bounties of nature that can be used for household needs.
