4 Jūrmala recommends Jūrmala recommends JŪRMALA RESORT FESTIVAL 26 th of May from 11:00 At the beginning of summer in Jūrmala the traditional Resort Festival takes place. All day long, guests of the festival are welcome to enjoy the biggest Ice-cream festival in Latvia, international street-dance competition Ghetto Dance Jurmala Battle, theatre and circus performances, salsa and Latin dance workshops, music concerts as well as the festival parade. A wide range of activities will also be offered to children. To conclude the evening on the big stage in Majori beach the legendary British band Smokie and an instrumental band Dagamba will be performing. 5 Jūrmala recommends LĪGO IN JŪRMALA 23 rd of June from 21:00 The magical atmosphere of Summer Solstice on a seaside around the bonfires, with a joyful activity programme dancing and singing for all ages on Dzintari and Kauguri beach. In the concert on Dzintari beach Tautumeitas and the band Auļi will be playing and Jelgavas Big Band will be entertaining the guests until the day breaks with soloists Miks Dukurs, Jānis Stībelis, Ieva Sutugova and others. On Kauguri beach bands Ducele and Dakota will be performing and after midnight dance together with Latvijas Radio 2 DJ Viesturs Sproģis. Free entrance. JOMAS STREET FESTIVAL 14 th of July from 13:00 Festival of Joma s street celebrates the main street of Jūrmala Jomas street. A delightful programme includes theatre productions, music performances, exciting cultural and entertainment activities including creative workshops for children. 10 Jūrmala recommends Jūrmala recommends JŪRMALA CYCLING MARATHON 9 th of June In Jūrmala the traditional Jurmala s cycling marathon will take place with a range of events and entertainments for all ages. It will be possible to choose from three distances 40km Standard distance, 14.5 km Family distance, which goes through the main part of Jūrmala and distances for kids under 12 years old ( m). Start at the Dzintari Concert Hall Turaidas iela 1, Dzintari WORLD CUP IN STREET GYMNASTICS 16 th of June World Cup in street gymnastics will take place on Majori beach. The event will bring together the best street gymnasts from different countries Finland, Denmark, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. Professional level participants in Jūrmala will compete in freestyle category while spectators will have a chance to test their strength in open level competition. Majori beach, SPORT EVENTS 16 JŪRMALA COLOUR RUN 7 th of July Participants of the 5km long international colour run will have a chance to experience the feel of a colour festival. In the distance at different colour points participants will be marked in different colours. Everyone can participate in the run there are no age restrictions, whether you run it, dance it, or simply walk it enjoying the atmosphere of the festival. 11 Jūrmala recommends Jūrmala iesaka EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN BEACH TENNIS 12 th 15 th of July For the first time in Latvia on Majori beach it will be possible to watch highest-level beach tennis. At the same time as the European championship for adults, the four days long competition in U-18 age group will take place as well. On Majori beach will come together around 150 beach tennis players from 20 different countries. Jūrmala Beach Centre, Majori beach, EUROPEAN U-22 CHAMPIONSHIP IN BEACH VOLLEYBALL 26 th 29 th of July On Majori beach the European championship in beach volleyball for up to 22 year-olds will take place, where the most talented youngsters will compete for the medals. High-level beach volleyball games take place in Jūrmala each year, last year beach volleyball fans were surprised also by the European semi-finals in beach volleyball for adults. 13 Ideas for leisure time Ideas for leisure time ĶEMERI NATIONAL PARK The national park is set up in a place where thousands of years ago was the ancient Litorina Sea. Retreating, it left behind its lagoon, which turned into the creation of unique bogs and lakes with hydrogen sulphide mineral springs, rivers and annually flooded forest stands. GREAT ĶEMERI BOG BOARDWALK The Great Ķemeri Bog is one of the main sulphur water producing bogs around Ķemeri. During the passage of migratory birds the bog is an excellent place for bird viewing. The Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk will make your way easy into this otherwise hardly accessible land of moss, undersized pine trees, deep pools, tiny dark lakes and the flavour of wild rosemary. BLACK ALDER SWAMP BOARDWALK This Ķemeri National Park trail begins at the Park Information Center Meža māja and is 600 meters long. The trail is suitable for families with children - at the beginning of the trail there is a playground, near there is also Ķemeri historical resort park with interesting buildings of the last century, bridges, churches and other environmental objects. The park also contains hydrogen sulphide mineral water source Ķirzaciņa. SLOKA LAKE WALKING TRAIL WITH A BIRD-WATCHING TOWER The trail runs along the shore of a rich lake through different forests. The trail begins and ends at Sloka Lake, at the beginning there is a parking lot, a picnic area and a 7 m high floating bird watching tower. LŪŽŅU DITCH SULPHUR SPRING An approximately 3-km long route offers you to extend your walks around the Ķemeri area, going to the strongest of the known sulphur springs - the Lūžņu Ditch Sulphur Spring, which hides deeper in the woods. The route begins at the information centre Meža māja and on the way to the source also offers one of the best bird watching opportunities - especially for watching woodpeckers. To get to Kemeri National Park you can use both train and Jurmala minibus Nr. 5 (Bulduri Ķemeri) and bus No. 6 (Sloka - Kemeri). More info

There are childrens playgrounds, a roller-skate trail, a 36-meter-high observation tower in the Forest Park and several cafes. The center is open to any beach sport lovers and provides opportunities to rent equipment for workouts or competitions. The Beach Centre is located on Jūrmala beach between Vanagu street and Emelīnas street in Majori. Space availability: JŪRMALA S WATER-SKIING AND WAKEBOARDING PARK, which is open in Priedaine since 1973, offers water-skiing and wakeboarding services, riding with inflatable towables and motorboat excursions. It is possible to rent rowing boats, kayaks and SUP boards there and to enjoy comfortable places to relax as well as saunas at the Coast of Lielupe River. Priedaine, Smilgas, SUP BROTHERS it s an opportunity to rent SUP boards and go on a ride either in Lielupe river or the sea.
