1 CHILE: Air Force, Army & Naval Aviation Bases Optional Extension to the FALKLAND ISLANDS OUTLINE ITINERARIES CHILE Saturday, 26 th November Monday, 5 th December, 2016 or CHILE & THE FALKLAND ISLANDS Saturday, 26 th November Monday, 12 th December, 2016 DAY 1: SATURDAY, 26 th NOVEMBER At 19:15 we depart London s Heathrow Airport, Terminal 5 on Iberia Airlines to Madrid, arriving at 22:30. Our connecting flight on LAN Chile s scheduled service to Santiago de Chile departs at 23:55. DAY 2: SUNDAY, 27 th NOVEMBER Arriving in Santiago at 07:40 after Immigration, Baggage Reclaim and Customs, we enter the Arrivals Hall and meet our local guide, board the coach, and, as we cannot occupy our rooms until after midday, we go visit the Museo Nacional de Aeronáutica de Chile which opens at 10:00 (we will ask them to open early for us). At midday we leave the museum and check in at the Hotel Holiday Inn Airport Santiago, where we stay 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. Website: Rest of day at leisure. In Chile the tour price will be based on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 3: MONDAY, 28 th NOVEMBER After breakfast we drive down the Andes mountains to the coast, to Viña del Mar and visit naval aviation airbase Aeronaval Con Con : SH-32, HH-65, PC-7, Bell 206B, UH-05, Casa C212, O-2A, EMB 111AN, P- 3ACH and UP-3A. At the end of the visit we return to Santiago. DAY 4: TUESDAY, 29 th NOVEMBER This morning we visit the ENAER Aircraft Company who manufacture several aircraft types including the T-35 Pillán, A-36 Halcon and Pantera. Then El Bosque airbase to Escuela de Aviacion Captain Manuel Avalos Prado : T-35A & B, PA-28 and Extra 300L. Our third visit is to the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport to visit Grupo de Aviacion No 9, 10 and Servicio Aerofotogrametrico: Bell 412, EB-707 Condor, B733, B735, B763, C-130B/H, KC-135E, G-IV, O- 2A, UH-1H, DHC-6 and LR-35A. 2 DAY 5: WEDNESDAY, 30 th NOVEMBER A full day visiting the air forcé and navy: on BA Los Condores is Grupo de Aviacion Nos 1, 2 and 3: A-29, A-36, Casa 212, PA-28, Bell 412 and F-16C & D. Next is Iquique/Diego Aracena Naval Aviation Base, to Fuerza Aeronaval No 2: UH-05, EMB111AN and 0-2A. At 23:40 we fly to Antofagasta arriving shortly around 00:30. We stay the night at the Hotel Antofagasta for one night; website: DAY 6: THURSDAY, 1 st DECEMBER Today we visit Cerro Moreno airbase, home to Grupo de Aviacion Nos 7 and 8: F-16AM, Bell 412, Casa 212, F-16AM, F-16BM and PA-28. Then, also on the base, the army aviation Brigade de Aviacion del Ejercito Peloton de Aviacion No 1: various types. In the evening we fly back to Santiago departing at 19:40, arriving at 21:30, and check in at the Hotel Holiday Inn Airport Santiago. DAY 7: FRIDAY, 2 nd DECEMBER This morning we return to the airport for our flight to Punta Arenas departing at 08:10, arriving at 12:40. Our next visit is to Punta Arenas airbase Pdte. Carlos Ibanez del Compo, to Grupo de Aviacion 6 and 12: Bell 412, DHC-6, F-5E Tiger III and F-5F Tiger III. Then, located on the same base, the army aviation Brigade de Aviacion del Ejercito Peloton de Aviacion No 5 airbase: various aircraft; and at Fuerza Aeronaval No 2 Base, the various aircraft of the Destacamento Aeronaval: UH-05, Casa 212, EMB111AN, P-3ACH and UP-3A. We stay tonight at the Hotel Diego de Almagro Punta Arenas; website: DAY 8: SATURDAY, 3 rd DECEMBER This morning we transfer to the airport and check-in for our flight back to Santiago de Chile departing at 13:25, arriving at 17:45. Tonight we again stay at the Hotel Holiday Inn Airport Santiago. DAY 9: SUNDAY, 4 th DECEMBER A day of leisure: you have the option of a sightseeing tour of the city. Transfer to the airport at a time of your choosing on the hotel courtesy shuttle service; or at 15:00 with your tour manager. Latest check in time is 16:00 for our LAN Chile flight to Madrid departing at 19:00. DAY 10: MONDAY, 5 th DECEMBER Arriving in Madrid at 14:00 our connecting Iberia Airlines flight to Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport departs at 15:55. 4 OPTIONAL 7-DAY EXTENSION TO THE FALKLAND ISANDS DAY 8: SATURDAY, 3 rd DECEMBER This morning we transfer to the airport and check-in for our LAN Chile flight to Mount Pleasant Airport on the Falkland Islands; we depart at 12:20, arriving at 13:55. Transfer to the Malvina House Hotel in Stanley, where we stay 4 nights on a Full Board basis. Website: After a welcome reception by our local travel colleagues, the remainder of the day is free. On the Falkland Islands we stay on a Full Board basis throughout. DAY 9: SUNDAY, 4 th DECEMBER A full day visiting the battle sites of Darwin, Goose Green, San Carlos. All transfers are usually by 4x4 vehicles with local guide. DAY 10: MONDAY, 5 th DECEMBER Visit to RAF Mount Pleasant, to No 905 Expeditionary Air Wing comprising No 1435 Flight (4 Typhoons), No 1312 Flight (Voyager and Hercules) and No 1564 Flight (2 Sea Kings). Plus AAR Airlift/BIH (S-61 and AW189 helicopters). The RAF A330 from Brize Norton is scheduled to arrive at 15:15. The arrangements for today are to be confirmed. DAY 11: TUESDAY, 6 th DECEMBER Today we visit Fitzroy and Bluff Cove; and the battlefields of Tumbledown, Harriet, William and Two Sisters. DAY 12: WEDNESDAY, 7 th DECEMBER This morning we fly with FIGAS (Falkland Islands General Aviation Services) on-board B.N. Islanders to Pebble Island. The first of THREE memorable flights on this classic British-built airliner. Uniquely, FIGAS do not fly to a scheduled timetable; instead, they fly each day around the islands flying tourists from A to B. Therefore, our departure/arrival times will be known only nearer the time when all the various requests for flights are co-ordinated. On Pebble Island airstrip we see the remains of an Argentinian Learjet, and a memorial to HMS Coventry. Today and on all the other days - there will also be opportunities to photograph the local natural wildlife. Pebble Islands' diverse terrain provides vital breeding habitats for a wide-ranging population of birds, including some rare and elusive species like the majestic Black-necked swan. Also found in the wetlands (An Internationally Significant Bird Area) we have many beautiful water fowl such as the Chiloe Wigeon, Yellow-Billed Pintail and Silver Teal. Many thousands of Gentoo, Rockhopper and Magellanic penguins breed on Pebble Island each summer, spearheading the list of 42 resident bird species. In addition, each year the island attracts many rare avian visitors from South America and beyond. We stay tonight at the Pebble Lodge. Website: DAY 13: THURSDAY, 8 th DECEMBER Today we take the FIGAS Islander to Port Howard. We visit the site of 10 wrecked Argentine Air Force aircraft: Mirage, Skyhawk, Dagger and helicopters. We also look around the small 1982 Museum and harbour (a well know location for seeing the local dolphins), and Commerson's dolphins, hawks, herons, petrels and penguins. Tonight we stay at the Port Howard Lodge. Website: DAY 14: FRIDAY, 9 th DECEMBER This morning we fly back to Stanley by FIGAS Islander. Checking back in at the Malvina House Hotel, the remainder of the day is at leisure; walk to the various sites, e.g., 82 Museum, Governor s House etc as shown in the local guide book you will be given. 5 DAY 15: SATURDAY, 10 th DECEMBER The morning is free. In the afternoon we transfer to the airport and check-in with LAN Chile for our flight to Santiago de Chile, departing at 16:15. Arriving in Santiago at 22:15 we transfer the short distance to the Hotel Holiday Inn Airport Santiago. DAY 16: SUNDAY, 11 th DECEMBER Transfer to the airport and check-in for our LAN Chile flight to Madrid, departing at 13:40; latest check-in time is 10:40. DAY 17: MONDAY, 12 th DECEMBER Arriving in Madrid our onward flight to Heathrow departs at 08:20, arriving in Terminal 5 at 09:50.
