Text in RED is newest. Pg. 11: DaNardMarine.com dinghy wheels are popular for RIBs in Mexico. GSM phones with sim cards are very useful. ATT covers from US border to San Quintín, in Turtle Bay, Asuncion Bay, Mag Bay, Los Cabos region and La Paz. Cell phones often start with extra digit. Diesel is about $3 gallon. Exchange $1 = 1.4 pesos as of October 010. H1N1 flu is under control. USCG and Mexican Navy anti-smuggler patrols increase off Pacific Mexico, searching boats for hidden guns & money southbound, drugs & people northbound. I recommend clearing into Mexico at Ensenada. Pg. 1-16: You can get your TIP online at com.mx In left column under Importacion Temporal de Vehiculos, click Tramites, then English. Serial numbers are required for TIP at importation time. Fishing boat permit no longer required, but fishing licenses are, if you have a hook. Pg. : LNG terminal plan dropped. But avoid several large fish pens between S Coronado Island and Ensenada. Pens are buoyed, lighted & guarded, so don t accidentally fish inside them at night, say Mexican Navy and Ensenada owners. Roca Soledad) lies 1.7 n.m. west of the southern tip of Punta Santo Tomás. Winter kelp beds foul & obscure safe passage east of Roca El Islote. Pg. 37: Chart: the island close north of Sacramento Reef is Isla San Geronimo. (Isla San Martín is farther N.) Pg. 4: Oct 010: This and other Fonatur properties are for sale. To avoid meter over-reading on big pier, get it in writing first. If you can prove you ve been ripped off, ask them to make it right. If that doesn t work, ask the local Naval Marine Commander to adjudicate the case. Or complain to Tourist Police in Mexico City () Pg. 3: Left column: GPS waypoint miles SE of Isla Asunción is 7 0' N, ' W. Pg. 8-6: Boca de Soledad has new entrance buoys set, but sporadically maintained, so try to hire a local panguero guide to get you inside and miles down to Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos (formerly called La Soledad). Pg : Singlar San Felipe (0 slips, fuel) was rebuilt in darsena s SW corner. Pg. 13: Puerto Peñasco (0 slips to 79 in NW corner of harbor) now owned by s de Baja (La Paz and CSL); (638) New Singlar & floating Pemex dock (638) are immediately west of old stationary fuel dock; big tanks on hillside behind are being replaced for boat storage yard. Juan s Safe is closed. Pg 16-17: Tepoca village expanding, more groceries & occasional gas. La Libertad village west of CFE pier is handy dinghy beach, nice friendly town; keep air strip in mind for emergency medical evacuation in this region. Sargento Bay is part of the new Seri-Tiburon Biosphere; new road brings campers to the bay s north sandspit. Many Seri people are still fishing here with hand nets and pangas as of October 010. New Kino s tiny fishing pier off the town is OK for a quick dinghy visit, NOT for yates to come alongside. This pier gets damaged almost every summer. Don t mistake La Barra Chica (cut across low, sandy Isla Lucenilla) for the main entrance, which lies n.m. farther SE. Once inside this long bay, you can anchor almost anywhere. Pg. 184: Piaxtla indent has silted up, no longer a reliable anchorage. Submerged rock pinnacle lies south of starboard jetty at Mazatlan s Old Port entrance, sometimes has a danger buoy (but not always), so approach harbor entrance from the SW, not from SE. Pg : Teacapán estuary is slated for moorings and dink landing in 011. Isla Isabela is a National Park and Biosphere Reserve; no pets ashore. Price increase for the moorings south of Las Moñas. University s frigate research bldg has expanded; starving student guides are sometimes available for hire. Singlar San Blas is for sale but open in second basin to stbd from sea, 1 slips, fuel dock, 0-Ton lift, storage yard, dinghy landing, pool, 3-story office. Call (33) 8-00 for entrance advice. Norm Goldie collects clothing donations for poor kids. Cruisers share street maps. Pg. 197: Tres Marietas Biosphere Reserve has a day fee, stronger enforcement of eco protection laws. Pg. 199: Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz (See new chartlet next page.) has new dockmaster Rafa; 396 slips inside new breakwater harbor; fuel dock, YC & restaurants are open; dinghy docks north end has been free to anchored boats. Buoys mark entrance to La Cruz, so anchored boats shouldn t block channel. La Cruz Shipyard is open in north end of La Cruz harbor has 10-ton Travelift. Wreck of S/V Libertad reported as no danger in deep water 1/ mile SE of Blue Bay beach. La Manzanilla (SE end of Ten Bay) has many new services and realestate-itus; beware pickpockets. In Colimilla (back lagoon), Maria s Tienda groceries delivers by panga; also good outboard repair service next door. We ve found fair-wx anchorage in tiny Bahia Cuestacomate n.m. W of Melaque; road links to Melaque, San Patricio, Highway 00. Pg : Puerto Isla Navidad new phone is (314) x 10. Town anchorage WNW of Pig Island often silts up so is no longer reliable. Access Cabo Blanco channel from east of Pig Island. Markers and depths to the s fuel dock in back lagoon are fine, but due to silting in summer 010, use caution getting to the free anchorage. Cruisers share free list of local services. Morning VHF net is active in winter cruising season. French Baker airstrip town Navy Occasional breakers, enter at slack water. Organic veggies are sold from back of pickup truck in Barra. Locals on VHF are helpful. Pg. 1: Chart: Punta Carrizal has new nav light, as does Los Frailes Rocks. These two outer coves are becomming more popular. Pg. 18: Yachts no longer permitted to take fuel in San Pedrito Lagoon, only at Las Hadas or Barra. New secure dink landing is near Capitanía on south side of renovated entrance channel into San Pedrito Lagoon. Mega grocery stores are open in Playa Miramar and Playa Santiago. Manzanillo s downtown is renovated, clean & dinghy friendly. New phone for Capitanía: (314) Pg. 1: Hurricanes erroded the sand bottom at Bucerias; not presently a safe anchorage. Pg. 8: The fuel dock in Ixtapa is open again, and is much improved (new owners). Call on VHF for the schedule of dredges working in the entrance channel to Ixtapa, office open 7 a.m to 8 p.m. They have been known to stop the dredge for yachts to enter the basin IF notified well in advance. Pg. 9 & 30: Playa Principal is same as Playa Municipal. Puerto Mio quit selling fuel. Locals nixed a new cruise-ship pier to be built inside Z what Bay, but feds are still scouting for pier locations nearby. Zihua Sail Fest 011 is tentatively slated for Feb, so far still at El Faro (formerly Rick s Bar); great fun & fund raiser, stinkpots welcomed too. FMI visit is proud to be a sponsor. Pg. 3-3: Papanoa: new homes ring south-facing Carbales Cove where newly erroded rocky bottom was reported in W half of the bay, 010. New artificial reef lies near Isla Roqueta Light Rock, use caution enterning Acapulco harbor. La still rents moorings & a few slips sans services, but their outer docks sunk & others in disrepair. Puerto Marques has several roped-off swim beaches & seasonal docks; some permit dinghy day fee. Pg. 36: Acapulco Yacht Club has expanded its north dock. New nd phone for Sr. Jose Maria Marquez at AYC is (744) Slips are hard to find, and much of the anchoring bottom is poor holding. Pg. 37: Right column: Correction to Table of Distances. Punta Galera, 140 miles. Puerto Escondido, 3 miles (17 total). Puerto Angel, 40 miles (1 total). Huatulco, 3 miles (38 total). Maruata and Troncones are correct spellings. The only fuel dock is at Huatulco (darsena or Chahue) 38 miles from Acapulco. Pg. 38: New lighted panga entrance to y Chacahua Lagoon is not navigable by yachts. Pg. 46: New 4 long fuel dock is along the starboard seawall as you enter Huatulco s tiny municipal darsena, awkward narrow channel. Fender against panga and jet ski wakes, especially if cruise ships in port, shore boats zoom into darsena. New phone for Chahue (98) 87-6, new dockmaster, new ChahueReserv@fonatur.gob.mx. This is still good spot for awaiting T peck. Enrique L is at Puerto Chiapas. Pg. 1: Left column: Correction: GPS positions were reversed for Boca de San Francisco ( N, W) and Boca de Tonalá (1 8.3 N, W). Boca de San Francisco blocked as of Oct 010 Pg. : Puerto Chiapas (formerly Puerto Madero): South entrance jetty has a new 00-yard dog-leg extension bending WSW; red jetty light is located on the new seaward end. New GPS approach waypoint a half mile west of the entrance is N, 9.37 W. Expect to be boarded and inspected by Navy each time you go in and out of Puerto Chiapas; this is normal & required. New headed by Enrique Loustelot is being dredged, slated to open in 011. This will provide another good place to await weather window for crossing Gulf of Tehuantepec. Check for new 3rd edition of.
