3 WINE IN GREECE Wine has been an important part of Greek culture for over 4000 years as the numerous archaeological discoveries throughout Greece indicate. The ancient Greeks knew well the nutritional value of wine as it became an inseparable part of their daily regimen. Greek wine industry consists of a large number of firms, different in size and contribution to the sector. The EU recognizes two quality marks for Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Designation of Indication (PGI).
4 Legal Framework Wine Tourism is the special form of tourism that refers to the provision of visitation, touring, hospitality and catering services on the premises of the wineries, in areas that are functionally integrated with winemaking and / or wine-growing facilities (vineyards). These services are offered in conjunction with activities related to viniculture and wine production.(law 4276/2014 ) According to Law 3233/2018 introduced the legal framework of the technical, functional and specific provisions of the premises of a winery or vineyard operation.
5 Label Open Wineries The establishment of the Special Wine Visitor Label is an important step in strengthening the brand of Greece and positioning it on the international map as a competitive wine tourism destination.

13 Wine tourism in Northern Greece Wine tourism in Northern Greece is clearly much more organized and that is due to the Wines of North Greece organization, which has designed the Wine Roads of Northern Greece. In Greece, the first organized wine roads were outlined in 1997 by the Wine Producers Association of the Northern Greece Vineyard and given the official name Wine Roads of Northern Greece.

17 Wine tourism in Central Greece The vineyards of Central Greece, with extensive holdings in the grape-growing areas of Thessalia and Continental Greece, account for 32% of the Greek vineyards and 29% of winemaking facilities, many of which include infrastructure suitable for hosting visitors. The Association of Winemakers of the Central Greece Vineyards (ENOAKE) is the organization that plans and maintains the wine roads of Central Greece and also participation in the "Open Doors" programme featuring periodical exhibitions, tastings and printed material to facilitate wine tourism in Central Greece.

20 Wine tourism in Crete Crete is the largest island in Greece and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean. It is at the southern-most point of Europe and at the crossroads of three continents. Crete one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece. Wine production in Crete has a very long history and the vineyards of the islands are historic. For Cretans, participation in wine-making activities and the staging of related festivals is a tradition. Therefore, the possibility for wine tourism in Crete has always existed. In recent years, however, the wineries with facilities suitable for touring have multiplied and since 2007, the Heraklion Winemakers Network (DONH) in Eastern Crete and the Chania-Rethymno Winemakers Network in Western Crete have become active
