They are preented on a table againt the background of ubtrate and foret aociation. troduction A a reult of many year of invetigation by the econd author M. T. in the Plitvička Jezera National Park lignicolou fungi from the group Aphyllophorale were publihed in a number of maller or larger contribution, the mot important being the preentation of non- -poroid pecie (T o r t i ć 1985) and polypore (T o r t i ć 1988) etablihed up to now in variou foret aociation. However, agaric were alo invetigated, albeit poradically, and a large number of pecie, both terricolou and lignicolou wa found. They have not been publihed yet and no regular mycocoenological analyi ha been made. Thi paper preent an attempt to invetigate agaric primarily, from the mycocoenological point of view in the main foret aociation developed in the Plitvička Jezera National Park. The reearch wa carried out from 28 Aug. to 10 Sept Therefore only one eaonal apect, that of late ummer, i included. 81

The National Park Plitvička Jezera i ituated in the north-wet part of Yugolavia, in the republic of Croatia, at about lo 35 and between the mountain range of Mala Kapela and Lička Plješevica, and comprie about ha, at altitude from 483 m (River Korana) up to 1280 m (Seliški vrh). The relief diplay many marked kartic characteritic in it geomorphology, hydrology, climate, vegetation. The primary natural phenomenon of the Park, which made it world famou, i a tep-like erie of larger and maller lake connected by many waterfall, with markedly developed travertine biodynamic. The geologic ubtrate i Meooic limetone and dolomite on which the mot frequent are rendzina and brown oil. The climate according to Koppen i in lower, outheatern part of the National Park C-warm-temperate rain climate whilt the higher tract in the north-wetern part belong to D-boreal-ubarctic type. Mean annual precipitation according to the obervation from on two localitie wa from 1453 mm to 1656 mm. The driet month were Jan.-March and July-Sept. Mot of the Park area (14500 ha) i covered by large autochthonou foret of deciduou tree and conifer forming everal aociation. The mot important tree pecie are beech (Fagu ylvatica) and fir (Abie alba). Spruce (Picea abie) i alo rather numerou. Le frequent are maple (Acer obtuatum, A. peudoplatanu, A. platanoide), pine (Pinu ylvetri), hop-hornbeam (Otrya carpinifolia) and ome other. General data about the mot important foret aociation The main climazonal type of foret are montane beech foret (Fagetum illyricum, montanum Horv.) in the lower montane belt and beech and fir foret (Abieti-Fagetum illyricum Horv.) in the higher belt. both, variant on limetone and dolomite are recognied, conidered by ome author to repreent eparate aociation. Several paraclimatic foret aociation are alo developed, the mot important being pruce foret on dolomite (Piceetum dolomiticum Horv.) and pine foret with hellebore (Helleboro-Pinetum Horv.). the cited paper (T o r t i c 1985, 1988) variant on dolomite were included in thoe on limetone. Here, however, we treat them a eparate aociation (Collect auct. 1975) ince we wanted to find out whether there wa any difference in the mycoflora of imilar foret on different geological ubtrate. The invetigated foret communitie are here decribed in hort. P h y t o c o e n o e o n limetone The Faaetum illyricum montanum Horv. Main tree pecie i Fagu ylvatica. Other tree, occurring rather rarely, are Acer peudoplatanu and in ome place alo Picea abie. Among hrub occur Corylu avellana, Evonymu verrucoa, Daphne mezereum, Lonicera al- 82

The Abieti-Fagetum illyricum Horv. Fagu ylvatica and Abie alba occur in about the ame proportion, with Picea abie and Acer peudoplatanu in maller or larger quantitie. hrub layer are developed: Lonicera alpigena, L. xyloteum, Corylu avellana, Daphne mezereum, D. laureola, Rhamnu fallax etc. and in the herb layer Anemone nemoroa, Oxali acetoella, Senecio fuchii, Cyclamen europaeum, Polytichum lonchiti etc., and many moe. The Phegopteri-Piceetum Pelcer. - - addition to Picea abie Acer peudoplatanu and Fagu ylvatica occur ingly. the hrub layer there are Sorbu aucuparia, Lonicera pp., Rhamnu fallax, Ribe alpina, Daphne mezereum and other, and in the herb layer Phegopteri dryopteri, Majanthemum bifolium, Oxali acetoella, Melampyrum pretene etc. and variou moe. South-wetern lope of Mt. Medvedak., alt m, the Fagetum illyricum montanum. 2. Corkova uvala, alt m, virgin foret of the Abieti-Fagetum illyricum, with many year old tree of Abie alba. 3. Karleuine Plae, alt. 850 m, the Phegopteri-Piceetum with Fagu and the Fagetum montanum with Picea. 4. Eatern teep lope on the hore of Lake Kozjak, alt. about 550 m, the Helleboro-Fagetum. 5. Southern hore of Lake Batinovac, alt. 600 m, the Helleboro-Fagetum. 6. Pogledalo, in everal place, m, the Piceetum dolomiticum. 7. Source of the river Crna Rijeka, alt. 700 m. On north-wetern lope Piceetum dolomiticum and above it, on a mall plateau, the Abietetum dolomiticum fagetoum. 8. The Helleboro-Pinetum aociation near the village of Babin Potok, outhern lope, m. 9. Steep lope of the Lower Lake, in two place: above the waterfall Veliki Slap and Satavci, alt. about 600 m, the Fagetum illyricum montanum, and at the wetern hore of Lake Kaluderovac, alt. about 500 m, the Selerio- -Otryetum where only few pecie were found and they are not included in the Table. The ize of phytocoenoe invetigated i variou: ome are developed in a narrow belt or in mall patche ditributed moaically, other cover large area, uch a thoe in Medvedak, Corkova Uvala and Babin Potok, where a large urface a poible were earched. all localitie there i a great abundance of rotten wood and not yet decompoed litter. Thi tudy primarily conider agaric growing on oil, litter and wood, and alo a mall number of, mainly terretrial, pecie from other group of the cla Baidiomycete. The nomenclature i after Moer (1983) and Jülich (1984), corrected after ome new literature (Kreiel 1987, Rauchert 1989). The pecie are arranged in Table 1 according to the aociation. the firt column ubtrate i indicated: = oil, 1 = litter. Fungi growing on wood are marked a follow: F = on Fagu, P = on Picea, A on Abie, Pin = on Pinu. The mycoflora from imilar aociation on limetone and dolomite i compared in other column. Only one aociation on dolomite, the Helleboro-Pinetum, doe not have it corcreponding aociation on limetone. The abundance of pecie i indicated after the cale of J a h n, Nepiak & Tüxen (1967) a: a = abundant, n = numerou, r = rare. Abbreviation for the name of aociation are: Fm = Fagetum illyricum montanum, A-F = Abieti-Fagetum illyricum, Ph-P = Phegopteri-Piceetum, H-F = Helleboro-Fagetum, Adf = Abietetum dolomiticum fagetoum, Pd = Piceetum dolomiticum, H-Pin = Helleboro- -Pinetum. 85

9 M A C R O F U N G I IN T H E P L IT V IČ K A J E Z E R A N A T IO N A L P A R K Dicuion and Concluion During a two week invetigation in the firt half of September in variou part of the Plitvicka Jezera National Park, 120 pecie of macrofungi were identified a rather large number for the time of the year owing to exceptionally rainy ummer. The number of pecie in each type of the foret wa nearly the ame: in beech foret 43 pecie, in beech and fir 49, in pruce 48 and in pine foret 41. Mot pecie, 66, grew on oil; 25 were found on litter and 29 on wood. A hown in Table 1, each type of foret ha a combination of pecie not occurring in other type, but, of coure, ome fungi grew in two or three type of foret, two pecie even in all four type. Quite a number of pecie characteritic of beech foret were etablihed, uch a for intance: Maramiu alliaceu, Mycena crocata, M. pelianthina, M. renati, Oudemaniella radicata, Megacollybia platyphylla, Ruula mairei, R. Solari, R. xerampelina var. barlae etc. (Liiewka 1978); ome of them were preent alo in foret of beach and fir. Although ome were now found in a mall number of pecimen, a e.g. Maramiu alliaceu, Oudemaniella radicata, they are in fact frequent in thi area and were found many time during earlier invetigation there, both in beech foret and thoe of beech and fir. Maramiu wynnei i alo frequent here in beech foret, but now only a ingle fruitbody wa noted in beech and fir. On the other hand, ome pecie found earlier only ingly in the National Park developed now in large quantitie, e.g. Maramiu lupuletorum. Frequent pecie Collybia confluen and C. peronata were thi time particularly abundant and predominated in ome patche. Many pecie found here now in only one type of foret have a wider ecological range and were noted earlier in the National Park a well a in variou other localitie in Yugolavia in everal foret type; thee include Ruula cyanoxantha, Lepiota clypeolaria, Armillaria mellea.l., Tricholoma aponaceum and other. Some, however, are bound to a particular tree genu, for intance Lactariu glutinopallen, L. aipnonicolor to Abie under which they were found in the pine foret. Mycorrhizal pecie of Picea are Ruula queletii and Lactariu deterrimu; ome other pecie are cited in the literature (N e p i a k 1975) a occurring particularly in pruce foret, e.g. Cortinariu odorifer, C. rueu, C. variecolor and other. Mycorrhizal pecie of Pinu, Suillu granulatu and S. luteu were noted only under young tree at the margin of the pine foret ince, a i generally known, they do not occur under older one. tereting wa the ma occurrence of Tricholoma ulphureum particularly in pruce foret, where it had been noted in rather large quantitie alo earlier. It i not bound to conifer and wa found here alo in pure beech foret. Yugolavia it i not infrequent in lowland foret of Quercu robur. Some common lignicolou pecie were noted only on conifer on which they were collected in the National Park earlier a well, but they grow preferably both here and elewhere in Yugolavia on deciduou tree, for intance on beech, e.g. Hypholoma faciculare, Schizophyllum commune. Tricholomopi decora wa found on pruce thi time, but in thi area, a well a in other known localitie in Yugolavia, it mainly grow on Abie. 89

10 M A R IA L IS IE W S K A an d M IL IC A T O R T IC Table 1 it i marked whether a fungal pecie grew on limetone or dolomite or on both. many intance they were found only on one geological ubtrate. However, many collected here on dolomite occur in the National Park alo on limetone or elewhere even on ilicate. It i not poible a yet to make any concluion whether there i a pronounced difference between the mycoflora of parallel limetone and dolomite aociation (e.g. the Fagetum montanum and Helleboro-Fagetum etc.). Krieglteiner (1977) mention ome calciphilou pecie, for intance: Lepiota apera, ocybe corydalina, Cortinariu odorijer, Lactariu acri, Geatrum fimbriatum; ome of thoe grew here on limetone and ome on dolomite. Entoloma incanum wa noted on dolomite in Helleboro-Fagetum, but thi i a pecie which normally grow in meadow and wa found there on limetone at the margin of Phegopteri-Piceetum in the National Park. Some conpicuou fungi were now noted for the firt time in the Park, uch a ocybe corydalina (one pecimen in the Abietetum dolomiticum fagetoum), Thelephora palmata (abundant in the Piceetum dolomiticum), Clitocybe hydrogramma (in group in the Fagetum montanum, Piceetum dolomiticum and in the Helleboro-Pinetum), a rare pecie, Hydnellum uaveolen (in group in the Piceetum dolomiticum) and Boletopi leucomelaena (a large group in the Piceetum dolomiticum). The lat mentioned i alo a rare pecie, known up to now in Yugolavia from few localitie but in pine foret. * Acknowledgement.
