Bawat product portfolio Vessel BWMS Port & Terminal BWMS
Ballast water on ships. 80 % of world commodities are transported by ships. 3-5 billion tons of ballast water are transferred internationally every year. Ballast water contains a variety of organisms: Bacteria, Viruses Adult and larval stages of costal plants and animals
A silent invasion.
A silent invasion as well in the Baltic Sea.
The IMO BWMC Discharge Criteria. The IMO Ballast Water Management Convention is in force as of 8 th of September Standard. The USCG treatment discharge standard is the same as the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention Standard. Size Species IMO Discharge Criteria > 50 μm Primarily Zooplankton < 10 viable organisms per m 3 > 10 μm; < 50 μm Primarily Phytoplankton < 10 viable organisms per ml < 10 μm Bacteria < 1 cfu per 100 ml Toxigenic V. Cholera < 1 cfu per gram of zooplankton samples E. Coli < 250 cfu per 100 ml Intestinal Enterococci < 100 cfu per 100 ml cfu = colony forming units 7
Ballast water treatment systems. The ballast water convention requires now ships to shift ballast water 200 nautical miles from the nearest land whenever possible, but in all cases at least 50 nautical miles and in water at least 200 meters in depth or in areas designated for ballast water exchange To have ballast water treatment systems onboard. Newbuildings: Keel laid after Existing ships After However Ships may not have shifted the water Ships may intentionally not have a BWMS onboard No systems or crews are failure proof, why a need for discharge of untreated water will occur. Thus an alternative solution BWMS has to be in place.
Mobile BWMS Ports The alternative BWM solution for a port could be Discharge anyway! Port reception facility Bawat s Mobile BWMS Not really an option, at least in the long run, why would we have the convention then. Expensive, unflexible on location. Can maybe treat wast amounts of water. Mobile and simple. Not expensive.
Mobile BWMS Shipyards Ships goes to shipyards each 5th year for maintenance. Prior to drydocking ballast tanks to be emptied for ballast water and sediments. Sediments are difficult for most ballastwater treatment systems. because of filters in the BWM systems. Thus, a cleaning/treatment service will be needed on shipyards.
Bawat s mobile BWMS
What do Bawat do? Ballast water treatment by pasteurization. Pasteurization Invented by Louis Pasteur in Kill organisms by a mix of heat and time. Used in many industries world wide, i.e: in the food industry for the production of milk, eggs, beer and juice.
Mobile System Lay-out Pasturization unit 67 C 72 C Heating section Regeneration section 72 C Retention section 35 secs
Mobile BWMS Based on the innovative pasteurization technology Bawat offers a opportunity for ports authorities shipyards and service providers, an ability to treat ballast water, using a mobile containerized solution. Simple to mobilize, connect and operate System capacity not sensitive to salinity, turbidity or temperature No chemicals, filters or UV required Consists of tried and true marine products No backflush to handle. Easy to maintain Scalable Stand alone
Mobile BWMS. Already a business in the Nordic countries. Collaboration agreement with largest Scandinavian Port and Terminal Service provider FORTUM. Implementation of Bawat mobile/containerized BWMS in 4 Countries service concept (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland).
What s the potential in Latvia? Ships served monthly. Riga Ventspils Liepaja Owners say: 1/3 of BWMS is not in operation at any given time. Will that change? Yes, but there will be a demand. Shipyard sediment cleanings, 4 shipyards. Ship amount unknown, but demand: Yes Business model for call on demand Pay pr. m3 treated water. Business model for ships deliberately not having a system. I.e monthly fee, m3 depending.
Conclusion Market Ships served monthly Riga Ventspils Liepaja Solution Shipyard sediment cleanings 4 shipyards Who wants to be the service provider?
