4 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Mr Peter Lundahl Rasmussen, BIMCO, Denmark Mr. Rasmussen is a Master Mariner with some 12 years seagoing experience gained on board chemical and oil tankers trading worldwide before he joined BIMCO as technical consultant in Career path included a stint as Fleet Director from 2007 to 2009, responsible for the safe operation of 25 ships (Ro- Ro s, multipurpose ships, chemical tankers and VLCCs). Presently serving in the position of Head of Maritime Information in BIMCO and holds some 18 years experience at NGO level in the marine environmental protection and safety regulatory work. Mr. Rasmussen is also responsible for the BIMCO Shipping KPI system Mr. Rasmussen, has chaired a number of BWM conferences and has given numerous lectures and presentations on the subject. He was also cowriter and technical advisor for the BIMCO/Fathom Ballast Water Management: The Ship Owner s Guide and contributor of chapters to the Nautical Institute s publication Improving Ship Operational Design. Professor David Wright, Emeritus Professor at the University of Maryland, USA Prof. David Wright is Emeritus Professor of Environmental Toxicology at the University of Maryland, Center for Environmental Science, the author of over 150 peerreviewed papers and books and is President of Environmental Research Services, a member of the Global TestNet Group. He is a graduate of the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne where he received a PhD in comparative physiology (1973) and a DSc (2001). He is He has conducted research into problems associated with non-indigenous species for over 25 years and has made numerous presentations world-wide on this subject. He has conducted several ballast water treatment trials, both dockside and shipboard. Dr. Wright is a Fellow of the Institute for Marine Environmental Science and Technology and outgoing co-chair of the IMarEST Ballast Water Experts Group.
