1 Film Drumheller Overview Drumheller is a community of 8,000 located in the heart of the Alberta Badlands, 90km northeast of Calgary. It is one of the sunniest communities in all of Canada, averaging nearly 25 hundred hours of sunlight each year. It s located on highway 9, one of Alberta s busiest highways. Drumheller operates a modern airport with an asphalt runway. It sits at an elevation of 2, 599 feet with a 3, 505 foot runway and has been used in numerous films. One hour away from the Calgary International Airport. Located 1.5 hours from Calgary and their new multi-million dollar sound studio. Drumheller is the largest community on the Calgary-Saskatoon corridor. The community s unique location has inspired musicians and film makers alike. Our film history stretches back to the 1940 s and, over time, we ve welcomed countless films to the valley. These have included Superman, Unforgiven, Lonesome Dove, Shanghai Noon, and Rat Race just to name a few.

2 An impressive number of television shows have made a stop in Drumheller including Amazing Race Canada, Hell on Wheels, and Daily Planet. These shows have all highlighted the unique and natural landscape of the Drumheller Valley. In addition to film and television, musicians such as Terri Clark, KD Lang, Tom Cochrane, The Road Hammers, and Corey Hart have all filmed music videos in and around Drumheller. Drumheller is centrally located with all the services of a big city in a small town. There are numerous hotels, motels, bed and breakfast nooks, retail, restaurants, and caterers here to serve a hardworking filmmaking staff. Filming Permits Drumheller is geographically long and narrow. It s 5km at its widest point, but over 30km long. From east to west, Drumheller is comprised of East Coulee, Lehigh, Cambria, Rosedale, Wayne, Drumheller, and Nacmine. Acreages and scenic views dot the landscape between these communities, which all fall under the corporate limits of the Town of Drumheller. Canadian Badlands Passion Play: Nearly all the actors are volunteers who work hard each summer telling the greatest story ever told.
