President s Update Welcome back to the 2016 camping season. Let me update you on several issues. The Electric Project is scheduled to be completed in May. The project itself came in under budget so we were able to use the surplus to run new wire to all the street lights. The camp will own the street lights and wiring and be responsible for their upkeep. Alliant will own and be responsible for the rest of the system. After Memorial Day, the old electric system will be abandoned. I want to thank the Electrical Committee, Chris Marquardt, Ed Newman, Vince, Tracy, Staff, Board members and especially Doug Berton for the countless hours and effort that was put into this project to make it a success. As you may have noticed, the woods along Xanadu Road has been clear cut. It is our understanding that there will be some sort of development going on there in the near future. We have surveyed the property lines to ensure that no trees were cut on CDC property. We are keeping an eye on this and will report any news on this as it is received. The new transmission line that is going to be built along the I-39 corridor has started. Clearing the right of way is progressing and soon there will be structures erected. The structures will be along the east side of the highway. The golf cart referendum will be voted on by the membership. Please pick up your ballot at the office or talk to the staff about getting one mailed. Ballots are due June 15, The results of the referendum will be announced at the June 18, 2016 board meeting. The bylaw committee has been working on updating the bylaws. They will be recommending the membership vote on adoption at the annual membership meeting. More information will be forthcoming. Per Chapter 69 of the Village of Lake Delton Municipal Code, the Village will be requiring tie downs for your permanently placed structures. Proper blocking to level your trailer will also be required. Information on this will be made available to members as it is received. A tentative date to be compliant is May 16, Finally, we are all excited about another camping season. In order to make it enjoyable for all, please remember to sign in, drive 10 MPH, be careful with camp fires, keep your pet on a leash, dispose of your trash appropriately, be respectful of your neighbors and respect camp property. Thank You! Timothy J. Moore President

3 Spring, 2016 Volume 16, Issue 1 Page 3 Let s keep Camp Delton Club beautiful! Campsites and trailers need to be cleaned up by Memorial Day! Please remove garbage, rake leaves, ensure your site number is visible from the road, and remember to wash all sides of your camper or park model. If you aren t able to clean up by Memorial Week- Attention members with canoes on the racks at the lake: please fasten both ends. You don t need to lock them, but by fastening both ends, the wind won t pick them up and flip them over. We have members who have found them flipped and hanging off the end of the rack, often filled with heavy water. This not only damages the racks but can bend or crack your canoe. 7 Spring, 2016 Volume 16, Issue 1 Page 7 Don t forget to check your smoke detector batteries! Every winter we hear a number of smoke detectors chirping to warn of a low battery. By the time you arrive in spring, the battery may be completely dead and no longer chirping! POST ELECTRIC PROJECT CLEAN-UP Our grounds staff has a lot of landscaping work to do following the in-ground installation of the electric cabling. It s going to take some time to have all the ground repairs done and seeded. Members are not required to repair their sites but if you are able and willing, please feel free to do the repair on your site. Soil is available by the maintenance building. Let us know and we ll see that the seed is put down on your repair. Thanks for your help! From the Grounds Manager As a reminder, the speed limit in camp is 10 MPH. Tell your guests. There are some members throwing lumber, carpet and trash in the recyclable containers. Recyclable containers are for cardboard boxes, cans, milk jugs, and any food containers only. Pellitteri charges extra when they have to pick up recyclables that are contaminated with trash. Also, we will be selling firewood like last year, $20.00 a Kubota bucket. 8 Page 8 INSIDE CAMP DELTON CLUB, INC. I don t know how accurate the following history is or who compiled this information but thought some members might enjoy reading it. Tracy History of The Camp Delton Club 1900 Sheridan S. Squires bought the farmland, which is now Camp Delton Club. It also included the land east of Interstate A 37 room structure called Mirror Lake Inn was built on the corner of Burritt Rd. & Xanadu Rd This land was sold to John H. Daehler. An 18-hole golf course called Dells - Ringling Country Club graced our property. Hole #1 and #18 were located where I-90 now flows. The country club was listed as one of the most scenic and sportiest golf courses in Wisconsin The Mirror Lake Inn destroyed by fire. (Loss estimated at $75,000) 1950 The land was purchased by William & Harriet Hynes. During this time, the land was used for various purposes including a KOA Campground, located on the present Overlook Village. (As a note: Xanadu Rd. was Old Highway 23 and Interstate 90 was built thru this land in 1959.) 1955 Part of the land was sold to Douglas Chalmers, who used the area for his business, Air-Seal Windows Willard (Bill) & Virginia Murphy bought the land and in 1970 the land become Dells Camp Delton Incorporated. The Murphy family opened an award-winning campground, which was the first deluxe total facility camping resort in the Illinois/Wisconsin area. It carried the highest ratings available to a campground in Woodall & Ron McNally. To do away with the hopeless problem that plagued campers when they found reservations for camping difficult, The Murphy s idea of carefree relaxed camping were being replaced by frenzied competition and overcrowding. With that in mind, the concept of a membership campground took shape March 21, 1975 Bill Murphy signed the Articles of Incorporation for Camp Delton Club and that s when our club was born. In May of 1975, the public was able to buy a membership. (Originally, 488 memberships were proposed) By September of 1975, nearly two-thirds of the existing memberships were sold Part of the land, which is now the cottages in the back of Camp Delton property, were sold to Charles Harris, Mary Jane Winkler, John D. Melter and William R. Melter.

9 Spring, 2016 Volume 16, Issue 1 Page 9 What s Happening? The Bylaws Committee is currently reviewing Bylaws and the Rules. Updates to both will be presented at the July meeting. The golf cart referendum regarding whether to allow golf carts at Camp Delton Club is underway! Please stop in the office to pick up your referendum information and ballot. Ballots are due June 15, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. The Annual Report will be available May 31st. It will be ed and available at the lodge. If you want a hard copy mailed to you, please call the office at The Electric Project will wrap up in early June, right after Memorial Day with the retirement of the old system in Wilderness Village. More information follows on page 10. DIGGERS HOTLINE: If you are doing anything involving putting a shovel into the ground, please call Diggers Hotline. Now that we have Alliant Energy supplying all the electricity to the camp you must call Diggers Hotline to ensure your safety and prevent damage to the system. The Village of Lake Delton has completed their inspections for improperly set trailer support pillars and other unsafe conditions. They have noted and are prioritizing the following areas of concern: Improper use of cinder blocks beneath trailers Unsafe electrical wiring that needs to be brought up to code Tying down of park models by use of hurricane straps. This is a requirement of HUD (Federal Law) and the Village of Lake Delton is enforcing it. Information will be available to pick up at the lodge and posted on the website regarding proceeding with coming into compliance. There will be exceptions allowed by merit of individual circumstances. For an exception, members will need to apply. Please watch the website for more details to come. Congratulations to our office assistant, April Rau who completed her Accountancy degree and earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average! Way to go April! Lake Delton is a village located on the Wisconsin River in Sauk County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,982. Lake Delton, along with the nearby Wisconsin Dells, is a resort area and a major center for tourism. The village of Lake Delton was originally named Norris for Edward Norris the surveyor of the village in The Village changed its name to Delton, but changed again in 1926 to Mirror Lake to avoid a conflict with the Town of Delton in that area. The name Lake Delton was taken after the construction of the Dell Creek dam creating a reservoir also known as Lake Delton. The village was incorporated in Among the attractions at Lake Delton are the world's largest Trojan Horse (part of Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park) as well as the world's largest (artificial) Pink Flamingo. From 1952 to 2006, Lake Delton was home to The Wonder Spot. Taken from Mapquest.com

10 Page 10 INSIDE CAMP DELTON CLUB, INC. WILDERNESS MEMBERS! The Electric Project will wrap up in early June, right after Memorial Day with the retirement of the old system in Wilderness Village. If you need to do any re-wiring you might plan to do it soon so you have uninterrupted power in your shed or add-a-room. Many sites have wiring from their sheds that reach the new pedestal but this is a good time to evaluate whether the wiring is still in good shape or whether new wiring should be installed. Many of the sheds were tied into the old electric pedestal with indoor cable. The insulation wasn t made for outdoor use. Please look at your wiring and ensure it is safe and the proper cable! 12 Page 12 INSIDE CAMP DELTON CLUB, INC. Greetings From the Office Manager Spring has arrived! It s so nice to have green grass and leaves on the trees. We also know spring is back when we have members come back to camp. Spring is a time of renewal and it s great to see our neighbors again and renew friendships. Over the winter we had several members who came nearly every weekend. We also had some who popped in for a short camper check or stayed for a day or a weekend. Life goes on at Camp Delton Club, even in the winter. We also have additional visitors that aren t often seen in the summer: red foxes, turkeys, and deer as well as bald eagles soaring overhead! The sign-in sheet has been removed from the silver mailbox at the gate. Please remember to stop at the office to sign in and ask your guests to do the same. Also, hang tags are required on your rearview mirrors and please keep your speed to 10 m.p.h.! We are seeing more and more kids playing on or near the roads in camp and we want to ensure their safety. Sales over the off-season were very good! We still have people coming to look at sites and campers or park models that interest them. If you have family or friends that have been tossing around the idea of joining us, this would be a good time while we have a good selection available! Remember to bring your gate card and keys! I wish you all a relaxing and fun-filled season. Let 2016 begin! Tracy Schmidt Office Manager

13 Spring, 2016 Volume 16, Issue 1 Page 13 Welcome back for another wonderful season of fun at Camp Delton Club. As your treasurer, I like to keep members informed as to how a portion of their dues and the camp s reserve funds are being spent by the board in the park during the off-season. Some improvements should be immediately obvious. You ll notice a paved road to the dumpsters with a paved turn around. You ll also notice a brand new basketball court and hoops. (Please keep all vehicles off the court. Warning signs about this will go up in the next couple of weeks.) You may also notice the brand new camp pick-up truck rolling through park. Men should appreciate the new regraded floor tiling in the lodge showers properly draining water away. I m sure everyone has noticed the number of dead and dying tress that have been removed, wiping out a long-standing list and making future forestry in the park surmountable. Some things are not so obvious like the new, efficient, larger water heater for the lodge showers, or the excavation of a buried storm drain next to the Wilderness playground, converting it into a functional French drain. We should all enjoy the proper re-wiring of the pavilion s electrical system, guarantying safe, powered events for the upcoming season. We hope you all benefit from these upgrades and the upgrades to come. Having said all that, the following are the current balances of the reserve funds as of June 1 st, 2016: Capital Improvements DDA $56, Equipment Reserve $5, Gate Reserve $1, Manager s Home Reserve $2, Professional fees reserve $4, Recruiting Reserve $1, Roads Reserve $7, Sewer Reserve $3, Have a wonderful season everybody. Treasurer s Report Eddie Mallonen Treasurer, Camp Delton Club Volunteering at Camp Delton Club Thanks to everyone who has volunteered their time and expertise to Camp Delton Club. Your help makes a huge difference in the campground. We have seen a big improvement over the years in the appearance of the campgrounds entry, lodge area, shower/laundry buildings, and the campsites! We also had many folks volunteer their time to the new electrical system. Thanks to all! Advertising space available! Interested in advertising your business in the Camp Delton newsletter? 14 Page 14 INSIDE CAMP DELTON CLUB, INC. LIBRARY: Thank you members for your generous donations of books! We have lots of books and DVDs available at the lodge for the enjoyment of all our members and guests, thanks to donations. We are no longer accepting VHS tapes. Please return DVDs before leaving Camp Delton so that others may enjoy them. DVDs: we are now charging.50 for checking out DVDs. This small charge will enable us to purchase newer DVDs. When we come across a rules violation, it is often a guest who is in violation. Often times, a member has allowed a friend or family member to use his or her site while the member is not present. PLEASE ensure your guests understand the rules and regulations. There is a one page short version of the more commonly broken rules at the office. Please have a copy available that you can give to your guests or leave at your site. Remember, when your guests violate a rule, the member is ultimately responsible. The rules are not here to restrict people, but to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Thank you!

We will be looking for volunteers to help do a movie night in the pavilion once a month. We will be collecting aluminum cans for playground equipment. We will be making a box to hold the cans so you can toss your cans in. There will be a donation of 50 cents for movie rental which will be used to get new movies. If anyone has any other ideas please drop them off at the club house. To have any activities we do need volunteers! If you are willing to help, please sign up at the office. BUILDINGS & GROUNDS I would like to welcome everybody back to camp for another season. Please put your site sign on a post in the yard so it is clearly visible. Signs should no longer be in your window due to the glare of light from flashlights used by emergency vehicles when looking for a particular sight at night. Anyone who would like to clean up the brush and small branches along the road from the Club House to Dells Village for firewood, please feel free to do so. Reminder: Make sure you have a hang tag hanging from your rearview mirror. If your hang tag is lost or breaks, you can get a replacement at the office. They are only $ the cost to the Camp. We can use some volunteers to do various things this season so if anyone wants to help, let Vince or me know. Even if it is for a half an hour, every little bit helps.
