NAMGBR provides an insurance policy covering member clubs when they hold events if someone is injured. To be covered 8 members of the club has to be a member of NAMGBR. At last count we have only 6 members in NAMGBR. Spring has sprung and it is time to get your British car out of the garage and start driving. I know most of our members drive their cars year round, but the convertible tops are about to come down and serious driving to start. Just driving your car 4-5 miles a day to the doctor, drug store, grocery or church will add up to the 100 miles a month. One way to help with the 100 miles is to attend the "Gathering at the Sonic." on the 3rd Friday of the month. Park in a slot or in Crye-Leike parking lot and come to the cover tables. Our first one is Friday, May 18th. Also, if you are a "car guy" then cars and coffee is on the 3rd Saturday of the month.. The next one is Saturday May 19th. I sit here thinking about driving LBCs and working on my "bucket list" of things to do and I am remembered how quickly life can change. Mine and Teresa's 47 year old niece has had cancer since last fall. While we were in Pensacola her father called and told us that hospice had been called in. She will leave a husband and a 7 year old daughter that they adopted from China. 1

2 You need to work on those "bucket list" as often as possible. Life can change slowly as we grow old or change in an instant. One item on my list was to attend the car show in Pensacola, FL. I accomplished that on Saturday, April 21st. Two other couples from the club also made the drive to Pensacola. Gil and Marge DuPre received a 2nd place plaque for MGA, Charles and Perky Long received a 3rd place plaque for Modified. Teresa and I received 2nd place for Spitfire/GT6. All of our cars were driven to Pensacola. Thanks to all the members who are willing to help friends repair their LBC. Dave Terhune organized a day to help Gary Keller (not a member) who needed help with getting his car back on the road. I understand Doug Forquer and Scott McAllister went to help. At some point everyone's car will need to be fixed/repair. Most of our cars have been on a rollback at one time or the other. The Townsend show "Springtime in the Smokies" is just around the corner. I hope that many of the club members will attend the show. Whether you go for the day or stay several nights it is always a good time. You can see friends and make new ones. It is only about a 100 mile drive to Townsend. This is a British/European car show. If you are doing the SBCC Challenge then this will be a great time to get pictures of the Foreign 2 seated sports cars. Another opportunity will be on June 2d at Morristown. That should be a great show as they are going to block off a section of downtown to park the cars. In the pass Teresa has always been doubtful about the ability of the car and my known ability of being a mechanic to drive long distance by ourselves. But as we drive more and further away she has slowly changed her mind about the distances we drive. Going to Pensacola we even got on the interstate three times for about 50 miles. AAA towing insurance has been a big help changing her mind. She is now willing to travel alone greater distances, although she does feel it is much better to travel as a group for the company and enjoyment of friends. We will have to decide on another date for a club picnic, as May 19th was booked at Harrison Bay. If you have other thoughts about what activities to do this summer please present them at the club meeting. Traveling the SBCC Roads Mike 2

3 SOUTHERN BRITISH CAR CLUB MONTHLY MEETING MINUTE April 9, 2018 SBCC President Mike Flood called the meeting to order. March meeting minutes were approved as published in the Timing Light. Treasurer s Report Funds on hand were and the report was unanimously approved. Membership Report 32 paid members, please pay dues Newsletter please forward any interesting or pertinent information. Show Flyers beginning to be passed out at various shows. Old Business Report on St. Patrick Day Rally and the April British Fools Bash 22 cars and 65 people were at the bash New Business Motion approved to move the location for the monthly meeting to Puleo's for May and Logan s Road House in June. 5 Our trip to Pensacola was un eventful as we took out time. Stopping to eat and take on petrol a couple of times. The Grand Hotel accommodations were very good and the restaurant breakfast bar was very good and reasonable. The day of the show was at Seville park and what beautiful setting. Plenty of shade trees all different shapes with limbs almost touching the ground from being so old. There were at least 140 British cars on the show field of every make and model I believe. Friday we had a chance to go to the National Naval Air Museum to see some of the aircraft that I had the opportunity to help design as well as all the other Naval historical aircraft and aircraft carriers. The only drawback of the trip was it rained on us all the way and the MGA had several drips that kept Marge busy. All in all we had a very good trip and arrived home safely. By Gil DuPre.
