I want to take a minute to thank everyone for their assistance during our adventure from South Lake Tahoe. Dick with 6 others, were stranded in Reno, while the rest of us boarded the plane. Without Dick and his wealth of information, we were literally up in the air on how to move forward. After landing in Chicago, the group really pulled together to find the luggage of those still stranded in Reno and to make plans to bring things home to them. All in all, EVERYONE was helpful and accommodating, making the trip home like skiing on corduroy enjoyable. P.S. Please visit our website at Gelandesprung.org for more information. The trip was The winds were not as strong as Sunday, but scheduled for February 21 to 28 of 2015, and 75 still a factor. We found a lot of runs closed, people from the Gelandesprung and Sly Fox ski especially the expert ones, where there is no clubs anxiously awaited that date. snow making. But still we worked through it and Saturday was our travel day, with the had a great day. largest portion of the group busing from Green Tuesday our destination was North Star. Bay or Appleton to O Hare for the flight to Reno. After a one hour bus ride we arrived and found Things went well, and we landed in Reno on the conditions similar to Kirkwood, but the winds schedule and prepared for the ride to Lakeland were calm and the weather was warm, spring Village. The group was so large we required two skiing in February. We were able to sit on the buses, so the decision was made to have one deck to eat our lunch. It was a very enjoyable bus go directly to lodging and the other bus go day and people left saying they would like to for a grocery run. Eventually everyone arrived at come back. Lakeland Village and got checked in. We had to get back because it was the Lakeland Village is a huge condo complex chili cook off night. We need to thank the the local area for skiing, shopping, dancing and Delveaux s for putting this together, it is a big job evening activities. The drivers were very good and they do it well. and accommodating. Sunday was to be our first day of skiing but the winds were so strong, with gusts over 50 miles per hour, that Heavenly only had a couple of the lower lifts running. The mountain said we would get a one day refund if we did not ski. It was an opportunity to explore the area, or rest up a bit and recover from our late arrival the previous night. Sunday evening we had our welcome reception in the Lakeshore Room at Lakeland Village. They provided us with pizza and Wednesday most people chose to ski beer, and we got to meet Michelle Morton who Heavenly, which was close to our condos, just works for Vail Resorts. She told us about the a short shuttle bus ride took us to the gondola mountains we would be skiing and what they had and then up the mountain. Heavenly is very to offer. We also learned about Lakeland Village large and is in two states, California and Nevada. and a little about South Lake Tahoe. Monday the option was Kirkwood. The conditions were challenging (continued on page 4)

4 Lake Tahoe Trip (continued from page 3) where they have snow making it is skiable. The Nevada side was definitely better skiing than the California side. Thursday was the side trip to Squaw Valley or Alpine Meadows. This is the longest bus ride, over an hour to get around the lake. Squaw became famous because it hosted the Olympics in The conditions are a repeat of what has been said before. When the snow is good this is an awesome place to ski. Unfortunately a lot of the area was closed, but looking around you can still enjoy the marvelous scenery. Alpine Meadows is just a short shuttle bus ride away and a few people did venture over there and said they enjoyed it. Then it was time for the bus ride back to Lakeland Village. Evenings in South Lake Tahoe are wonderful. There are a lot of great places for dining or just enjoying a beverage or two to wind down after a hard day of skiing. They have the casinos on the Nevada side for all types of gaming and there are night clubs and dancing for the late night partying crowd. Also, we can t forget the shopping, there were plenty of options for that. The information that Scott Stilp had given us prior to the trip was very helpful. This brought us to Friday and our last day to ski, with many of the group choosing Heavenly because it was the most convenient. The conditions of the mountain had not changed and we skied like the previous days. This closed out the skiing for this trip. Friday night was the farewell dinner which was at the Stateline Brewery. This is a very nice place and they gave us our own private area. The wait staff was very attentive of our beverage orders and then we ordered from a limited menu. The food was excellent. After dinner we went over the departure information and first time pins were handed out to the members that traveled with us for the first time to our west destination. After a few small items were discussed it was time for the obtuse award. There were seven nominations, but the winner by a landslide was Jim Bosdech. It seems that when we skied North Star it got quite warm and Jim had overdressed. He took off his shirt and was going to ski in just his jacket. He had rented a locker and wanted to put the shirt in there. Things get all confused and he had a problem remembering his mission, ends up skiing 12 thousand vertical feet to get to a locker that is only one thousand vertical feet away and takes him so long that Jeanine is worried about him. Not to worry, the shirt made it and Jim got the obtuse award. Saturday morning was up early for our departure. When we got to the airport, check in did not go well, as the ticket agents could not handle us efficiently enough. When the last seven got to the gate, the doors had been locked and were denied boarding. The aircraft was still at the gate, but no amount of pleading was going to make them open the door. The plane delayed its departure one hour and the seven were given different flights, even though the airline knew the flight was being delayed and there would have been plenty of time to load. The good news is everyone made it home, although a little late. This brings this adventure to a close. It was a great week, had a lot of fun, good food and refreshment, got to meet some great new people, who I hope will join us again. Unfortunately we did have some injuries and people are on the mend, I am thinking all will go well for them, and they will be back next year. Thank you to everyone that went on the trip, you are what makes all the work enjoyable. Also thank you to all the people that stepped up to help in any way, it is greatly appreciated. Also a thank you to the board for letting me run the trip, hopefully they will let me do it again. Your trip leader, Dick Wortiska Dear Dick, Julie, fellow participants in the Lake Tahoe adventure, Thank you all for the outstanding kindness and hospitality offered to Cincinnati Ski Club members who joined your club for this marvelous adventure. We were impressed with the trip, the area and especially with our traveling companions from Gelandesprung and Sly Fox Ski Clubs. Thank you so much for welcoming us so warmly - and for providing assistance as needed. Hopefully we are all on the mend - or will be soon! Next time we meet, please bring your infamous comfort food - cheese curds!!! Sincerely, Cindy Mason, Robin Piper, Rhonda Denterlein, Bill Johnson

5 Boyne Highlands/Nubs Nob Ski Weekend It was smooth sailing this year to Boyne Highlands, with sun and great road conditions ahead. We arrived there around 9:00pm, giving everyone time to have a cocktail before bed, if desired. While enjoying some refreshments and snacks on the bus ride, everyone had 30 minutes to complete their March Madness Trivia. The winner was Tom Tupper, who received a digital scale as a prize. Way to go Tom! We also announced a Poker run for the weekend and all the pickup stops on Saturday. We had a great weekend of skiing. The base at Boyne Highlands was 4-6 feet, with 55 of 55 runs open. Nubs Nob was about the same with 5-6 feet base and 53 of 53 runs open. With the exception of a bit of wind mid day on Sunday, and some flat light throughout the weekend, it was optimal skiing conditions. Saturday at the Zoo Bar, The Breakfast Club (80 s) Band of Chicago began at 5:00pm. It was Retro Weekend at Boyne Highlands; many people dressed for the occasion in their retro gear. The band was very energetic and engaged the audience in every song they played. As always the breakfast both Saturday and Sunday morning was awesome. Dinner was great for most; a few endured a longer wait time than before. There was a miscommunication between the wait staff and the group planner for our trip. We should have received a $28 voucher for dinner, but only received $25. Jeanine, our treasure will record these as a credit for anyone to apply to future trips or banquets. If you prefer a check, please let her know. Sunday morning, at Nubs Nob, we handed out two more cards for the Poker run along the lift tickets. Everyone gathered around lunchtime to show his or her cards, the winner to be announced on the ride home. By the way, the reason we handed out two more cards is because my husband and co-trip leader, Al, had three aces out of five cards, I was hoping that someone else would beat him. Without mentioning names, we did have a couple people forget about the time change and missed the early bus. Darn good thing they expected to be on the early bus, or we would have had to wake them up to get on the later bus! We had good road conditions on the way home too. We announced the Poker Run winner, Bob Sisson, who had a full house, Kings over Jacks! He won a very nice food/gift basket. Tom Tupper took second with another full house, and Dave Bodart third with a flush! Yeah, I should mention that I had to disqualify Al because he had a full house too, aces over nines. He is still crying as I write this. Nominations were made for the obtuse award. The winner was Zachary Henning. Ron Quick nominated him because for such a vital young man, he experienced some very senior moments. He forgot his jacket in the Slope Side Bar Saturday night, forgot to zip his suitcase, walking away from his room with a trail of clothes, and also left items behind in his room. Way to go Zachary, acting like a true ski club veteran! We also played a ski trivia game on the way home. The winner of the Ski Trivia was Gary Austin, who won a 2 in 1 USB charger. Go Gary! On this trip we had new members Zachary Henning and Lauren Klasen, and a potential new member, Tom Giese. We hope they enjoyed themselves this weekend. I think they did! He He! Thanks to all who helped loading and unloading the bus! Also a special thanks to Dee Jansen for making some awesome snack rollups to share with everyone!
