1 South Weber City Newsletter April & May 2008 Mayor s Message Welcome Springtime! It is good to finally see the snow melted and feel Spring in the air. As the weather improves, we will begin to see ongoing projects throughout the city being completed and many new ones beginning. The Memorial Park on 1900 East and South Weber Drive will soon have a new sprinkler system and grass, and the sidewalk along the south side of South Weber Drive will be completed. Lester Drive will be getting an overlay to make the road smoother and safer to travel on, while helping storm water to drain properly. A major re-construction of 475 East is scheduled to start some time this summer, which will completely replace and upgrade almost all the utilities. Sidewalk, curb, and gutter will also be added to help solve the storm drain issues that have been a problem for many years in this area. Other roads will be repaired as necessary, as winter has a way of taking its toll on all of the streets. Please bring any dangerous road situations to the attention of the city staff so they can be repaired. One of the major secondary water suppliers for the central and western part of the city, the South Weber Irrigation Company, is currently in the process of enclosing several miles of their water into pipe and pressurizing their system. This will provide pressurized secondary water to many that have had to use culinary water in previous years to water their grass, and will help in water conservation efforts. We know that it is quite expensive to get a system like this started and individual homes connected, but we hope that it will pay off for everyone in the long run. As activity in the city increases, so too does the need for involvement in various sports, committees, Country Fair Days, Eagle Scout Projects, emergency preparedness, etc. If you would like to become involved, please contact the folks at the City Office. 2 South Weber Community Page MANAGER S MINUTE We Want to Know! For several months the city has been putting together a community survey. The intent of this survey is to help gather valuable information relating to a variety of services from residents. Results from the survey will be collected for several months and then analyzed and presented to the City Council and posted on our website. Feedback from the survey will be used to assist the city in making important decisions in how to better provide the services you, as residents, want, need, and desire. The survey can be taken by going to the city website at and clicking on the Citizen Surveys link located in the center of the page. After clicking on this link you will be taken to a new page that will list the two surveys currently available. The first survey, entitled Community Survey 2008 is a general survey that covers a wide range of community related topics such as planning and zoning, recreation, parks, public utilities, public safety, economic development, etc. This survey is the larger of the two and will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. The second survey, entitled Citizen Panel Registration is a demographic survey that is being used to generate a representative sample of South Weber residents. Once this representative sample has been obtained -meaning the registration information closely matches current census information, this group of residents will be used as a panel to take additional surveys as the need arises. Please encourage your neighbors to go online and complete this valuable survey. -Matt Dixon South Weber City Manager Neighborhood Watch Now that the winter is behind us and spring and summer are around the corner, it is time to look around and see what is outside our homes. Here are a few things to check for. 1 Clean rain gutters so they will drain and that they drain away from the house. 2 Check secondary water valves to insure they are closed before the system is filled for summer use. 3 When airing out the house do not leave windows or doors open then leave the house to run errands. 4 If you live where flooding may accrue then clean gutter ditches and drains to allow the water to flow without obstructions. Lets enjoy the upcoming good weather and one last thing watch out for children playing outside, and runners in the streets. South Weber City 2007 Firefighter of the Year Clark has been a resident of South Weber for the past 22 years and a member of the Fire Department for almost 10 years. He was invited to come see what the fire department did and the rest is history. Clark is a certified Utah Emergency Medical Technician, teaches the Basic EMT class at Weber State University, is a member of the Utah State EMS Operations Sub Committee, and is preparing for his Firefighter I &II certification this summer. Clark is a Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City. His hobbies include camping, fishing, running, scuba diving and snowboarding.

3 South Weber Community Page Everyone is reminded that burning of yard waste is strictly forbidden. Farmers with more than 5 acres are allowed to burn agricultural waste with a permit that must be obtained from the City office prior to burning. Recreational fires are permitted provided that they are safely contained, no closer than 25 feet to the nearest structure, directly super vised by a responsible person at all times, and a hose capable of extinguishing the fire readily available. Burning of refuse, yard waste, scrap lumber ect. is prohibited. For ANY fire, the Clearing Index must be above 500 for Airshed 5.
