No need for an appointment, just come down to the courts any Saturday morning at 10:00 AM for an introduction and a lesson on the basics of shuffleboard. We will provide all the necessary equipment. Come join your fellow Hawthorne shufflers each Saturday for a friendly easy to learn fun variation of regular Shuffleboard. All ability levels are welcome, with registration and practice beginning at 8:30 AM and play at 9:00 AM. Cost is $1.00. SOLOS Trip: 9/29, Monster Truck Ride Showcase of Citrus in Clermont. Carpool for those signed up. Leave flagpole at 9:45 AM. Truck Tour cost already collected. On your own will be shopping at County Store, lunch at Bob Evans. 2 Boat Club Monthly Meeting: 10/13, 10:00 AM in Lemon/Lime Rooms. New members who have a boat or are on the waiting list to get a slip are encouraged to join us on Saturday. Dues are $5.00 and are paid at the meeting. Coffee & Doughnuts and 50/50. Boat Club Dock Tail: 10/20, 12:00 4:00 PM at the Marina. Dock Tail Party, Shrimp & Margaritas at 12:00 Noon. Tommy D, Elvis Reviews 1-4:00 PM. Members and their Guest Members must be present and have wrist bands. Tickets on sale 10/12 thru 10/18 tickets are $10.00 per person. Tickets will be sold at the Boat Club table during the Activity Fair. SUNDAY Concert Series: 10/21, 3:00 PM The Concert Series presents The Atlantic City Boys with a program of rock-n-roll harmonies of the Beach Boys, Drifters, Bee Gee s and of course Frankie Vali and the 4 Seasons. Season & Flex tickets will also be for sale before the concert. Single performance tickets are $15 at the door. Season, Flex & Individual tickets will also be for sale in the Hall on 10/9 thru 10/12 and 10/15 thru 10/19 from 10-11:30 AM. Season tickets are $50 and Flex tickets are $60. Dinner Theater Dames at Sea : 10/28, bus leaves at 11:30 AM from the flagpole. Tickets are $60.00 per person and will be sold on 9/28. Dames at Sea is based on a Hollywood musical of the 30 s. Dick saves her doomed Broadway show with a smash tune as Ruby becomes a star on the deck of a battleship, which just happens to be passing by. MONDAY Shuffleboard FSA Men & Ladies PRO Doubles Tournament: 10/1 thru 10/3, 9:00 AM at the Shuffleboard Courts. Featuring the best Men and Lady Players from throughout the state. Lunch will be served Monday and Tuesday in the community center (10:30 to 12:00) and is open to all Hawthorne Residents. Archery Club General Meeting: 10/1, 11:00 AM in the Lemon/Lime Room Monthly meeting. We meet the first Monday of each month. Dragon Boat Community Paddling: 10/1, 12:45 PM on the river. Archery Club Meeting: 10/1, 11:00 AM in the Lemon Lime Room. Strumonicas: The Strumonicas will resume gathering on 10/1, 10:00 AM in the Hall. All levels and types of instruments encouraged. We will be practicing for the Activity Fair. We look forward to enjoying music with new members. Maintenance Day: 10/8, Clubhouse will be closed all day. Library, Fitness Center, Fine Arts, and Billiard Rooms open to residents. No set ups will be made. Laughter Yoga: 10/15, 9:00 AM down by the pool. Laughter is great for our Bodies and Souls. Katie Devlin, licensed Yoga instructor will lead the group. Hope to see you for some laughter in the sun! TUESDAY Chair Volleyball: Time change every Tuesday at 12:30 PM in the Hall. All those interested in Aviation and those with Aviation stories please come! Line Dancing: 10/9, 2:00-4:00 PM in the Hall. Join us for a new season of line dancing! Lessons start on Tuesday 10/9. Beginners from 2:00-3:00 PM and all an encouraged to stay from 3:00-4:00 PM for some more advanced moves. We meet every Tuesday in the Hall. Woodcrafters Club Ice Cream Social & Card Bingo: 10/9, 6:00 PM in the Hall. Tickets on sale 10/1 thru 10/9 for $4 and $5 at the door. Peanut bits, chocolate and caramel syrup, whipped cream, chocolate, vanilla, mint chocolate and royal fudge & sugar free ice cream. 50/50 prizes awarded! WEDNESDAY Shuffleboard Weekly Social: 10/3, come join your fellow Hawthorne Shufflers each Wednesday morning for some friendly shuffleboard. All ability levels are welcomed. Practice beginning at 8:30 AM and play beginning at 9:00 AM. Creative Juice Jam: 10/3, 1-3:00 PM in the Fine Arts Room. No art experience preferred. Come to the imagination station to get your creativity boosted. We use pencil, charcoal, pen& ink maybe even finger paints. Sign up and get supply list on the information center. Come and learn how to draw a straight line. Fishing Club: 10/3, 10:00 AM in the Lemon Lime Room. The fishing club will meet the 1 st Wednesday of each month beginning 10/3. Membership dues will be collected at this meeting. Coffee and donuts will be served. See you there. HRCA Documents Committee Meeting: 10/3, 1:00 PM in the Administration Conference Room. Bike Club Monthly Meeting: 10/3, 9:00 AM in the Conference Room. The Bike Club is getting ready to hit the road again. Bicyclists of all levels are welcome to attend. New Vision promotes independence acceptance and self-confidence. They serve Lake County. Always helpful to our club. Everyone is welcome. Wood burning/pyrography; 10/4, 1-3:00 PM in the Gallery. Come try before purchasing your own equipment. Sign up on the Information Center. HRCA Planning Committee Meeting: 10/4, 10:30 AM in the Administration Conference Room. HRCA Workshop Meeting: 10/11, 10:00 AM in the Lemon/Lime Room. The Agenda Meeting will be held immediately following the Workshop Meeting. Couples Golf: 10/11, 3:00 PM at Arlington Ridge. This is our Team Spirit dance. Wear the shirt of your favorite team regardless of the sport. All teams welcome. Tickets are $5.00 and on sale 9/26 thru 9/28 and if not sold out - at the door. Join us in our efforts to help our environment by protecting friendly landscaping! NOTICES NOTICE: The Hawthorne Phonebooks can now be picked up at the Clubhouse from 10-11:30 AM. Flu Shots: Coming to Hawthorne. We will offer two days for you to get Flu, Pneumonia or Shingle shots. Walgreens will be here Thursday, October 4 th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon and again on Wednesday, October 31 st fro 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Notice: Gate House construction with single lane traffic. We are requesting that you avoid this area due to this single lane of traffic checking in guests and contractors. Please try to use the perimeter gate off of Hollondel Rd and Hwy 48 to enter the community. If you use this area you can expect delays. There will be some days we will need to close Hawthorne & 27 exit. Watch for road signs and drum for updates. Notice: Tuesday 10/16, 10:00 AM until 12 Noon in the Hall. Mark your calendar for our annual Activity Fair. Come to the Auditorium and see all the activities on display. All Activities, it is time to show off all the talent as well as our sense of volunteerism. Be sure your activity has signed up on the Information Center. Please let s have the biggest turnout ever and show what your activity is all about. There will be door prizes and refreshments. Please plan to be there. Rummage Sale: Looking ahead to future needs, the Rummage sale Chairmen are looking for anyone with an interest in taking over supervision and planning of yearlong activities, culminating in the actual sale. Tis person would work closely this year with present Chairmen and learn the ropes. If you think you might be interested, call Allan Pinkham at Page 4 of 9

Please contact Cheryl Jacobs Camping Club: Hawthorne Camping Club will have its first rally at Wilderness Resort at Silver Springs, FL. October 5th thru 8th. To make a reservation call Brian at the resort Each site is $22.50 per night. They also offer units to rent for anyone without a trailer. After making reservation, please call Mary Havens at SOLOS Club will tour The Harris Chain of Lakes on Friday October12. Boat rides are provided by our own Hawthorne Boat Club. Participation is for SOLOS CLUB MEMBERS ONLY! We will gather at the new Pergola Area at the Marina at 11:10 AM, boats will leave the dock at 11:30 AM stopping for lunch at the Fish Camp Restaurant. A sign up is on the information center. Deadline to sign up is at our meeting on 10/1, at 11:00 AM in the Lemon Lime Room. Each rider will be required to sign a Hold Harmless Agreement as well as asked to donate $ 5 towards gas. If you need information call Aurora at Hawthorne Theater Group: Yoo Hoo Hawthorne Clubs! It s time to put on your best bibs and tuckers. Dig out your clogs or dominoes or karaoke jokes and design a skit that tells the audience about your club. The free show is Monday October 15 th at 7:00 PM and is a prelude to the Activity Fair. All clubs are encouraged to participate. If your imagination fails, just walk across the stage with a sign that says you ll have a table at the fair. The Hawthorne Theater Group encourage everyone to show off their style and sass at the annual Hawthorne s Got Talent free performance on Tuesday October 16 th at 7:00 PM. Just let us know what you can do for the show. Read poetry, sing or dance, tell jokes, mime, or play a fiddle. Whatever your talent may be, get in touch with the Players and we ll take it from there. Life touch does school portraits, church pictorials, and community pictorials. Having your portrait taken you will receive a free 8x10 and a pictorial book. Hawthorne pictorial is a great asset to all homes. It connects us with our community. You may purchase additional portraits on your own. 8 Message from the HRCA Board A reminder for those of you who have been away over the summer - Waste Connections picks up trash from the Rubbermaid trash bins only. This means they will no longer pick up any materials left on the ground or in the in-ground containers. All trash must be in the Rubbermaid bin supplied by Waste Connections. If you don t yet have a bin, please contact Waste Connections at Yard waste is excluded from the Rubbermaid trash bin requirement. Hawthorne Disaster/Recovery Information - If we are unfortunate enough to be visited by a hurricane, Management plans to provide two sources of information regarding Hawthorne s status after the storm has passed. A white board will be placed at the flagpole on the West side of the Hall giving status updates.
